Always big games in the WIAC

River Falls plays at Eau Claire
Oshkosh hosts Platteville
Whitewater travels to La Crosse
Point entertains Stout

After losing 3 of 4, Eau Claire is just a game ahead of River Falls. The Blugolds won on the road by 18 the last time out.

Point will look to get some revenge on Stout when the Blue Devils come to town. Stout crushed them by 24 in Menomonie. Point is just a game out of the last conference tournament playoff spot.

Oshkosh will look to solidify both the conference title and their Pool C fate if they fail to win the league. Platteville is all but out of the Pool C running, but still has plenty to play for as a win will pull them within a game of 1st place.

Like Oshkosh, La Crosse is looking to bring home a conference championship and solidify their own Pool C chances. They topped Whitewater by 14 on the road previously. Whitewater's conference hopes are dwindling in a tight race. They are tied with Eau Claire, a game back of Platteville and a game up on River Falls.

Going into tonight's games:

Oshkosh is the 2nd team in the "bubble in" category, the 3rd group after Locks/near locks and Strong Contenders. They are a 74% chance of getting into the tournament.

La Crosse is 4th in the category, at 72% and is listed at the 8th Pool C team (out of 20 available spots).

Mock Regional Rankings in Region 9

1. La Crosse
2. Oshkosh
3. Illinois College
4. Platteville
5. St. Mary's MN
6. Carleton
7. Bethany Lutheran

Looks like no Brody Fox for Stout again tonight, not in the starting lineup according to the live stats.

Whitewater upsets La Crosse. Oshkosh cruises. Eau Claire tops River Falls. Point beats Stout.

LaCrosse allowed WW many paint scores late after being tied 52 all. Lots of boisterous fan voices couldn't help the Indians to a comeback. Oshkosh now has a commanding lead in WIAC.

Off to get a new home in Hudson WI (likely) or Stillwater MN.
World travel isn't all its cracked up to be. Neither is Duluth/Superior.

Greek Tragedy

La Crosse is 6-3 in conference and their 3 losses are at home.

I didn't really look closely at the other results around the nation, but they must have been favorable to the WIAC. Oshkosh has moved into the bottom of the Strong Contenders category, improving to 80% chance of getting into the tournament after their win last night. Despite the loss, to my surprise, La Crosse has also moved into that category, right behind Oshkosh.

According to Pharrell Payne, University of Minnesota center, his brother Rodrick Payne is a brick wall to go up against. A recent tweet proposed an exhibition  game next Fall between UWRF and Minnesota. Hope it happens!

No conference games this weekend. This is some pretty bad scheduling. Instead of having an open weekend, why don't you have an open Wednesday and play the games on the weekend. It would probably attract more fans for weekend games, plus there probably aren't any classes missed, players getting home really late on a school night etc. Better yet, have the open date earlier in January when students aren't even on campus.

Was there mid-term graduation or something?

Don't think UWRF officials thought it was a bad situation. They had huge crowd watching club volleyball all day with many teams involved. Not possible if WIAC had scheduled bb games. Gyms, locker rooms not available. Club sports are huge. Did not realize how popular they are. Parents, relatives come to watch their kids participate. Could hardly find parking spot outside Page Arena all day. Concession sales were big. Also, women's hockey (ranked no.1 in D3) had an afternoon game.

Of course, but River Falls could've also been on the road. And I'm sure this club volleyball event was scheduled because River Falls didn't have a home basketball game. I'm not downplaying any other sport.

One would think there had to be a reasoning behind it, especially since they could have done it last week after the first round was done. Because the points you mentioned are pretty convincing as to why they should have done it on a different day.

Wonder if it was built into the schedule in case a COVID reschedule was needed.

Sure, doesn't need to be on a weekend.
