The WIAC archives were sort of hard to navigate to find this info....

I'm glad you double-checked my work, because I was having brain farts yesterday; I didn't remember that 64 teams actually make the tournament, so was pleasantly surprised when watching part of the the Selection Sunday Show and the seeing D3 gurus here give a berth to the Lady Blugolds, who have not played well down the stretch... We'll see if those predictions hold up, and I'll be watching to see how our WIAC teams who get to lace 'em up for a few more games do in the tourney...

You're a bit older than I am, but I remember the good old NAIA/WSUC days, when UWEC men's hoops teams were actually in the tourney, "going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come..." ;)

Despite making the D3 Hoops "Mock" bracket, La Crosse is left out and fails to make the tournament... Ironically, the D3 Hoops crew was correct on each of their other 19 Pool C selections, so La Crosse was the only one they missed. (Utica was selected in the actual bracket instead of being left at the table.)

i remember those Blugolds. They were a big draw back in the day. The only two guys I remember off the top of my head are guard Frank Shade and center Mike Ratliff.  Those Blugold teams had to be among the best all-time WIAC teams.

Back in the day growing up we only had 3 television stations.  One of them was Channel 13 out of EauClaire so I also remember those BluGold teams and the excitement around the program.

Seem like River Falls' Zac Johnson would be the next perfect candidate to go from D2 back to the home state in D3 in WIAC.

6'9" Peshtigo F, Kaine Fort, has committed to Oshkosh.  Oshkosh can put a huge frontline on the court for the foreseeable future.

I presume you're pretty happy about that. Recruiting may take a hit, but if the players stay, they have a good group, I think. I wish Coach Semling the best. He did bring a lot of good to the program.

No, I'm not happy.  I certainly didn't like where the program declined to, but Semling won 2 National Championships for Point and earned the right to walk away when he chose to.  Which, I would have expected to be soon anyways.

If the right guys stay from the current team, they could be decent.  But, they also can't afford any more off recruiting seasons.  They were set up well so far with Uttech and Schaumburg...as well as some solid kids at some programs with Pointer ties.  Who knows if Uttech and Schaumburg stay committed at this point now.  I hope the next guy can hit the ground running.  At some point maybe I will throw some names out but I'd be very interested to see what coaches have interest in the UWSP job.

UWSP seemed to be hit hard by committed players suddenly disappearing.  I'm not sure if the "Covid protocols" had anything to do with it.
