Less than a week before the deadline. Any names surfacing? Does anyone think SNC's Gary Grzesk would be interested? I know his name always pops up when the GB job is available (2 times in recent years, it seems). I'm not sure if he's applied there, got turned down or wasn't interested.

Honestly, I don't even know moving from a private school to a public school is even a step up (maybe even a pay cut). I'm presuming coaching in the WIAC against the likes of some of the big boys is more attractive than going up against some of the NACC teams, although their recent move to the NACC is a step up from the MWC. I think SNC is trying to get a foothold in the Milwaukee and Chicago area recruiting circuit.

Grzesk won't consider Point for numerous reasons. SNC has been recruiting Milwaukee and Chicago (old Metro Conference and Chicago Catholic League) since World War II ended.

Of course they have. Point being, if they are trying to recruit a kid from the Milwaukee area, SNC plays MSOE, Concordia WI,  and Wisconsin Lutheran all in the vicinity of the Greater Milwaukee Area where friends and family can come and watch without driving 2+ hours north to DePere. Lakeland, Edgewood, Marian are all an hour away.

Only a very small factor in recruiting IMO.

I'll disagree with that.

Anyway...

I'll bet anyone any amount of money that Scott Anderson will be the next Pointer head coach! He'll build a winner within 2 years also lots of great kids willing to go to Point if he's hired.

Zac Johnson is transferring home to UWRF from D2 Augustana.  This is a big get for the Falcons.  Jedwabney and Johnson will provide a lot of outside shooting.

I just don't know how you hire someone who isn't coaching at the college level at a job that needs all the help in the world.

ShineTime

I'm not saying I necessarily agree with it but I heard from a couple trustworthy sources that he's in the running.

If you're completely rebuilding the program, I don't see it as being a bad hire. Besides, when is it a good time to hire a high school coach for a college job then?

That's a great point and the program has been down for how long now? He's proven he can win at the high school level and of course there will be nay sayers who say he only won because of who he had. I know I'm keeping my fingers crossed he's hired and some of it is based on who I know whose transferring if he's hired.

It's not like they've been trash for a decade or anything. They won the big doorstep in 2015. They made the Sweet 16 in 2018. Even their 18-9 record in 2018-2019 wasn't a complete dumpster fire.

Scott Anderson would be a great hire at UWSP in my opinion.  Former player there, assistant coach there, coached in the Fox Valley with good success including a state tournament berth.  Three time state championship coach at SPASH and grew up with the game.  While I don't know all the other names in the hat for this job I'd say he's got to be in the top few because he knows the situation and can hit the ground running with recruiting.  My biggest hope for whoever does get the job is that the decision is made soon so the new coach can salvage some sort of recruiting for next year.  The cupboard is not bare but it certainly needs some restocking.
