It's not like they've been trash for a decade or anything. They won the big doorstep in 2015. They made the Sweet 16 in 2018. Even their 18-9 record in 2018-2019 wasn't a complete dumpster fire.

2015. 2018. 2019. Many moons ago. Many.

Finally had a chance to listen to Duckworth's interview from last week. There were 90 applicants for the UWSP head men's basketball coach. Head men's hockey Tyler Krueger coach is the head of the search committee. They have to dwindle to pool to 15-20 for conversations via phone/Zoom. Then 4 will come campus for interviews.

By comparison the UWSP football head coach position had 60 applicants.

Duckworth said they have 24 games on the schedule and are looking to fill that one more. UWSP men will host a game as part of the Sentry Classic this year, on Thursday, which would be December 28.

Thanks for the info. Is there a link to his interview somewhere?

Big news for UWRF, Rodrick Payne is withdrawing his name from the portal and heading back to UWRF.

WIACer

Good for UWRF, WIAC. Maybe not much out there? Not easy to go next level.

Cardinal Stritch is closing it's doors. At least there are a lot of other opportunities in the Milwaukee area, albeit non-scholarship (not sure if Stritch was a scholarship school in regards to sports).

Cardinal Stritch had a lot of players from outside the greater Milwaukee area so they surely offered athletic scholarships though NAIA scholarship policies are less restrictive, allowing the school to be less generous, than the Division I and Division II.  It is not unheard of for NAIA schools to offer $500 scholarships to players so that they can fulfill the desire to be on scholarship.

Some good points, thanks. My line of thinking was more towards students/athletes liking the Milwaukee area and wanting to stick around after Cardinal Stritch closes. Wisconsin Lutheran College, MSOE is downtown, Concordia is just north of Milwaukee. Carroll is in nearby Waukesha.

I could also see some of those Milwaukee area kids going to Whitewater.

Point has to be close to the last four candidates.

I understand and agree.

Except that those who go to Whitewater are unlikely to play basketball.  The Wolves were terrible last season (not that I expected you to look).

They aren't. A few posts above was a radio show that was done on 3/30 that stated UWSP got 90 applicants for the job... and that they'll whittle it down to, I think... 24... for initial interviews, and then bring somewhere between 3-5 in for actual interviews.

According to the Daily Dirt

I have heard that Zoom interviews are complete at Wisconsin Stevens Point. It sounds like 3-4 guys interviewed. Names that I have heard include Freddie Owens (spent last season as an assistant at Green Bay), and at least two current D3 head coaches – one from Wisconsin, and one from Minnesota.
