Cardinal Stritch is closing it's doors. At least there are a lot of other opportunities in the Milwaukee area, albeit non-scholarship (not sure if Stritch was a scholarship school in regards to sports).

That's the second "local" NAIA school to do so in the past couple of months.

Trinity International University, in Deerfield, IL, moved to virtual-only undergraduate classes moving forward.

According to the Daily Dirt

I have heard that Zoom interviews are complete at Wisconsin Stevens Point. It sounds like 3-4 guys interviewed. Names that I have heard include Freddie Owens (spent last season as an assistant at Green Bay), and at least two current D3 head coaches – one from Wisconsin, and one from Minnesota.

https://hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-4-11-23/

Hadn't seen that yet, thanks.

This is different info than the AD provided a little less than 2 weeks ago, unless I misheard him (or misunderstood, which is certainly possible  :P).

He did say that they wanted to have someone in place before students left for the summer... so they've only got about a month left, or so.

EDIT:
Also, isn't Freddie Owens the interim HC at Green Bay now?

Could speculate about the other names, but I won't - ultimately not worth it, especially because SP will likely announce some things (like finalists) if we're truly getting close.

Greek Tragedy

10 or 11 days seems pretty quick to go from 90 applications to "3 or 4". The interview with Duckworth made it sound like they needed to go through 15-20 zoom/phone calls and then narrow it down to 3, 4 or 5. When that happens, those candidates would be invited to campus and a public forum, and of course, those names will be made public. They would like to have something done by the end of the month, but no later than when students head home for the summer. I'm definitely not saying Hoop Dirt is wrong and I don't know anymore than anyone else...in fact, probably a lot less. If this is in fact true, they really got the ball rolling and maybe 80 or those 90 applicants were Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse-type applications, I doubt it though. Point has fallen on hard times lately, but they are still a premiere program with a lot of history. They also play in a Top 5 conference. I would think it's a job a lot of coaches desire and hope they get the right guy. They've done pretty well with past coaches, that's for sure.

He was the interim HC, however UWGB hired Sundance Wicks about a month ago to be their new Head Coach...

Senior Max Lucey (6-4) of Cuba City has committed to Platteville. Lucey is a three-time first-team all-SWAL performer who averaged 21.1 ppg as a senior for the Cubans.

Expanding this out, both time and space, Milwaukee-area NAIA Holy Family closed in 2020.  Hard to say if the Milwaukee archdiocese tried to save Cardinal Stritch, but if they are like St. Louis, they are probably more interested in retirement services for priests than anything else.

Elsewhere, Iowa Wesleyan is closing.

I would love to sit down with the IWU president and ask him or her about the move back to the NAIA.  That never made sense for an institution with so many student-athletes.

Wow. I stand corrected. That was fast! Any idea who the first candidate is? It's tomorrow and they don't even tell us who it is? Weird.

Not sure, sorry. Hopefully someone in the local media attends to find out.

I'm telling you right now the final 3 candidates are Freddie Owens, Kent Dernbach, and Scott Anderson and from what I've been told they want to hire Scott Anderson but know they can't go wrong with Kent seeing he's from this area and coached for the Pointers as an Assistant. Based on fact Freddie was an assistant at UWGB speaks for itself most people would probably say it's a no brainer gimme some Freddie but for me it's Scott Anderson. You want a proven winner and a staff full of winners who know the game and know people I feel it would be a quick turnaround back to greatness where the pointers belong!

Per usual...whether it's the UWSP baseball team or the UWSP basketball team, you have no clue.

Time will tell I'm positive I know who they want to hire but will they is the question. Any state job that's posted takes forever and that's also why they're interviewing so many people they have to go through the process but in the end they'll hire Scott Anderson and beginning next year Point would have 3 D2 transfers, kid from Medford- Baumgartner, and 2-3 other all state kids who are waiting to see who they hire. I was told by 2 former Pointer players if he's hired the Pointers would compete for top 3 spot in WIAC year 1 and guaranteed me Point would be top 25 team year 2 which used to be a given every year.

Anderson might be in the running...but the majority of the rest of that earlier post shows me you don't have a clue.

WashingtonWiz99

Scott Anderson being involved does not match the hoop dirt report.

Greek Tragedy

Well, it's past 2 pm. Anyone in room 146? Who's the 1st candidate?
