So...who was it today?

Kent Dernbach.  Two of the other four "finalists" have withdrawn.

I'm shocked!  :o LOL!

I'm not sure why you're taking so much offense to me not taking message board posts as 100 percent facts.  UWSP or anyone else hasn't put anything out there who is interviewing or who the finalists are.  Literally, the only thing out there was a tweet from hoop dirt stating one name....and random posters on this forum.  Anyone can make up anything on this forum.  If someone would like to post that they were at the forum and saw Dernbach, that'd be great.

It looks like nothing is going to be announced until they have their candidate, which is frustrating for fans of the program.  If it ends up being Dernbach, it's a homerun.

While I was unfortuately unable to attend today's forum I know several people who did.  I can tell you with 100% confidence and accuracy that Kent Dernbach was the candidate at today's forum.

In fairness tomt, what WIAC head coach position across all sports that has opened recently has named finalists on their website? We've had football openings recently where they don't give you times and locations of the open forums and finalists.

Many positions don't even have open forums. I think UWSP is doing a great service by having them.

I'm willing to accept Duckworth misspoke or didn't actually mean what he said and he really meant they'd give times and locations.

Greek Tragedy

I don't think tomt and I would be making such a big deal about this had Duckworth not said the names would be disclosed once the final 3 or 4 candidates were determined, but he did. I understand he's not going to release a list of 90 names that applied for the job, but when you're this deep in the hiring process and you're coming to an open forum, names will be leaked. I still find it strange that they are publicizing open forums but not telling anyone who will be there.

Anyway, it looks like everyone is rooting for Dernbach to return to Point. Hope they can get the process tied up so we can move on with the recruiting process etc.

Not sure why the names weren't released other than the possibility that there are candidates not wanting their schools and players to know they're looking at other jobs until the very end of the selection process. My thought is if you prematurely start publicly listing everyone interested in your job leading to public scrutiny and conversation, you're going to significantly limit the number of coaches who contact you to express interest and who are willing to participate in the application process. That said, such things are difficult to keep a "secret" (if that was the intention) . . . I do wonder, given that we're dealing with a public institution, what, if any, information would be subject to an open records request, if anyone was so inclined. Well, safe to say, the two favorites among local folks were Kent Dernbach and "Scotty" Anderson. It's no secret in Point that Scott was not named as one of the four to attend the public forums. Kent certainly would (will?) be a very popular choice among fans, without question. FWIW . . .

No offense taken... Just trying to make light of the confirmation of something I already knew. It's a message board and it's supposed to be entertaining, which is why I keep coming back each season!

Here's your update after yesterday... Point has offered the job to Dernbach so if he wants the gig, it's his... Just matter of him making a decision.  (I'm sure McKenzie withdrawing from consideration sped the timeline up a bit?)

Again, take it for what it's worth... Maybe it's an accurate report or I could just be making stuff up?  ???

He's the right guy. Program hasn't been relevant since he left.

Amazing how quickly four became two. Fourth finalist withdrew pretty early on after getting that NCAA Division I job.

WHITEWATER named the finalists for the head coach position just a couple of months ago.  Prior to that they also had named the finalists for the job when they hired Kevin Bullis.  We named the finalists for the wrestling position prior to the hire.  The practice here is to name the finalists and hold open, public forums for anyone who wishes to attend.  I've attended several personally.

Cubs has credibilty in my book.  He has a long standing reputation for it on these forums.

Not that I know anything, but if I was the committee, my first thoughts after finding out that Dernbach applied would have been: 1) will he actually make the move) and if yes, 2) how do we make it happen.

I think it made sense to pursue McKenzie, but the committee had to see that as a long shot unless they had the resources to increase the salary substantially from what Coach Semling was earning (around $70-75K if the public databases were correct).

I stand corrected, thank you.
