It's not even close from a basketball standpoint. Not even close. Quandt is 1,000 times better than Mitchell Hall. Staffing is 100 times better.

I can't speak to staffing but I've attended games in Quandt and Mitchell Hall and it's a tad grandiose to suggest Quandt is "1,000" times better.  But I'd be interested in knowing exactly what it is that makes it that because to a visitor it doesn't seem like anything that special.

Terry Porter. Championship banners all over. Has the feel of a college arena. Mitchell Hall is no different than your high school gym. That's not even including the atmosphere from fans.

1,000 times better . . . naw.  I think Point is a bit more intimate.  And it certainly has a better attendance average. Mitchell Hall can feel big and cold . . . I get the same impression at Kolf . . . they're big venues.  400 people or so just sort of get lost.  Point averaged something like 260 more people than did LaCrosse this year.  Considering the records of the two teams and the size of LaCrosse that's surprising.  As someone who grew up near LaCrosse I remember the day when Mitchell Hall used to have big crowds . . . nearly full.  We're talking back in the late 1970's for you youngsters . . . of course, everyone drew really well in those days. The Zorn and Point were legendary for their crowds in the 70-80's - come early or you didn't get a seat. Those are bygone days pretty much everywhere.

So...All Quiet on the Western (Stevens Point) Front, apparently. Dernbach still has all his La Crosse stuff up on his Twitter.

Not exactly....

Publicly?  Sure, it's been quiet, but behind the scenes, there has been some dialogue between some of the main boosters/donors and UWL to at least throw a counter offer out there and see if it would be enough to keep him there.

With it being a Public University, I'm not exactly sure what that all entails, but I don't doubt that it's made for a more difficult decision than it might have been originally?

I have no insight but would have to believe it's just a matter of time before we know that the move is happening.

Yes. I meant publicly. They did say the goal was May 1. The latest they wanted was prior to the students leaving for the summer.

Announcement and red carpet roll out for Dern is Friday per sources.

Like I said last week, the job was his if he wanted it, so not surprised that the official announcement will happen later this week...

Correct. That's my understanding.

If Dernbach is indeed announced on Friday, the next question in my mind is....will anyone be following him from La Crosse to Point?  JJ Paider comes to mind to me, Point was one of his finalists when he selected La Crosse and his grandpa is a longtime member of the backcourt club at UWSP.  Not to mention, he fills a huge need at UWSP.  This is me just throwing it out there though, no idea if Paider would entertain the idea of a transfer to follow Dernbach.

Yep, my mind shifts to UW-La Crosse. Big blow to lose your assistant and head coach in the offseason. Tough for a budding men's basketball program. Interim situation coming from the outside this late in the offseason a la Dern. Not sure who would even be in line for this? Getting Norcia from LF would be on my mind.

Tough situation for student athletes to lose your lead assistant and head coach. Devastating for them. Not sure what they will do. Paider is certainly the big one. Hannah too.

What names come to mind for the UWL job if Kent does in fact leave?

Didn't they have a intra-conference rule about sitting out a year if you transferred within the conference? Was that ever a rule? Did they get rid of that rule (Covid/portal) or I presume there might be exceptions regarding coaching changes.
