Former Pointer, Darrius Bolden, who transferred to a juco last year, is back with UWSP this season.

I can't imagine it staying this way, but if everyone with eligibility is back and there are no defections from the recruiting class...roster is at 26 at the moment.

I imagine there's a few kids who "committed" via social media that may not have even been recruited, but played HS ball. So, they are basically trying out come practice time. Obviously we can't anticipate a huge roster, so the competition will weed out a few players, in theory, the less talented athletes.

Certainly possible, but certainly not likely for the vast majority.  Sam Coulthard falls in this category, and could be the only one.  With that said, I can't be positive on the transfers, Parker Prahl, Darrius Bolden and Tyson Skalecki.  Prahl was highly recruited as a senior and I would be surprised he would leave Lawrence for a non-guaranteed roster spot.  Skalecki had quite a few options as a senior as well but hardly played at Carroll, I'm much less positive on him having a roster spot or not.  Bolden very well could fit in the tryout category, especially after leaving Point once already.

AJ Uttech - top 50 senior and visited many schools over the course of the year, many options
Austin Schaumburg - had multiple roster spot offers including CCIW North Central
Logan Baumgartner - top 50 senior with majority of the WIAC chasing him
Mason Prey - top 50 senior with D2 looks on top of the entire WIAC after him
Jackson Watson - had many options at the D3 level as a high school senior, walked on at Bowling Green - Coach Dernbach recruited him to La Crosse so seems like he would welcome him to his roster
Cal Krohn - I don't know why Cal would leave a volleyball scholarship for a tryout chance, my guess is he has a roster spot
Seth Miron - top 50 senior originally committed to Oshkosh, he had a roster spot wherever he chose at the D3 level
Malik Abdul-Wahid - former top 25 senior a couple years ago with D2 offers, he wasn't going anywhere that wasn't offering a roster spot
Josiah Butler - top 50 senior 2 years ago with over 10 D2 offers, he has a roster spot

Just to get a number...lets say Coulthard, Bolden and Skalecki aren't guaranteed roster spots.  That puts the recruiting class at 10.  It would also put the roster size at 23, with 3 possible additions.  That is still much higher than 99 percent of rosters at the D3 level that doesn't carry a JV team.  I think it's more likely the defections come from returning players, not incoming recruits(minus the 3 players I highlighted in this post).  It's almost a given that when a new coaching staff comes in, some of the holdovers end up not on the squad the following year.

Thanks. I appreciate the insight, like usual. When it comes to recruits (or basically anything), you know a lot more than me.

Always see CCIW teams do JV games and scrimmages, always wondered why it's not really a thing in the WIAC. Maybe not really advertised before.

Well, UW-Oshkosh and Maranatha Baptist will do JV scrimmages in Oshkosh this season on November 30 and January 25.

Excellent summation.  Can't disagree with anything you wrote.

Greek Tragedy

A lot of common opponents.

Point plays Wisconsin in their exhibition. Oshkosh has an exhibition against Maranatha a day after a conference game and 2 days before another conference game, along with one in November, as previously mentioned.

River Falls and La Crosse head to Superior for their tip-off tournament.

Stout takes Eau Claires's spot and goes to Oshkosh's BSN Winter Classic at the Oshkosh Arena.

Whitewater and Platteville swap opponents on opposite nights to fill their tip-off tournaments.

Whitewater liked River Falls so much that they are heading back there for the Falcons' holiday tournament.

Oshkosh plays in the Great Lakes Invite against La Roche and Redlands.

Platteville takes Oshkosh's place in the Small College Basketball Classic in South Dakota, taking on St. John's and Keene St.

Platteville also plays 4 MIAA opponents in December, including Calvin and Trine at the Trine tournament.

Stout takes Point's spot in the Jack Sikma Invite at IWU (Point won it last year).

Stout takes Eau Claires's spot and goes to Oshkosh's BSN Winter Classic at the Oshkosh Arena.

Someone wrote a while back that the Oshkosh Arena was shut down (for reasons I can't recall...). Any resolution on that?  Or maybe they'll just play in the parking lot?

It closed July 28 and everything was figured out and requirements met and reopened August 4th in time for Glo playoffs. I'm sure they would be play in Albee as a back up before the parking lot  ;).

Sounds like changes are in the works for the Quandt Fieldhouse.  As in a somewhat remodeled space.  Short term, appears this season fans can expect an opportunity for a special ticket area that includes premium food and drink . . . stay tuned.  Sounds like a great idea as our local universities compete for their fan's attention and support!!

Sounds interesting! Did you see a post somewhere or an article about this? I hadn't heard that yet.

The UW-Oshkosh schedule actually had the Maranatha games scheduled on their site. I remember wondering why they were playing Maranatha (as exhibitions) the day after playing Eau Claire and two days before playing at Stout, along with the Nov. 30 game.

That's probably Maranatha adding those games into the Presto system as being against Oshkosh and not understanding there's a difference.

Yeah, makes sense. I few years ago, the UW system changed all the naming to the UW extensions (2 year schools). So, instead of it being UW-Sheboygan, UW-Waukesha etc, it's UWGB - Sheboygan Campus etc. I suppose this is the WIAC page, so most of us already know this!
