Carroll: 77
WARHAWKS: 86

The WARHAWKS started fast building a 24-8 lead after nine minutes had elapsed.  But Carroll got their act together and though the WARHAWKS maintained a double digit lead the Pioneers took advantage of some sloppy WARHAWKS play over the last minute to close to within six, 39-33 when the half ended.  The second half saw the WARHAWKS maintain a lead but the Pioneers hanging tight and closing to within a single point twice before the WARHAWKS made an 8-0 run with about seven minutes remaining to go up 74-65 and hold their biggest lead of the half.  The Pioneers would get to within three but were held off when the WARHAWKS went 10-10 from the free throw line over the closing minute.

Miles Barnstable led all scorers with 27 points while Trevon Chislom added 22 and James Kelly finished with a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Jameer Barker chipped in 10 points.  The WARHAWKS forced 17 Pioneer turnovers while committing just 8 themselves which resulted in a 24-10 scoring advantage off of them.

I am extremely interested to see UWW compete in the WIAC. I believe they have the most talent but don't think they will finish #1.

My question is... With the only team ranked higher than the Warhawks losing twice (albeit to ranked teams), will the Warhawks rise to #1 in the next poll?

I think there's still one more week before we vote again, but right now, I'd probably be choosing between Whitewater and Keene.  Keene's got some tough matchups this weekend, if they come out unscathed, they probably get my vote.  I suspect a lot of different teams get #1 votes next time around.  Hard to find consensus with the outcomes we're seeing.  I wouldn't say that Carroll performance solidified anything about WW to me, other than they can still lock down at the end of games.  The first 35 minutes were good, but definitely not #1 good.

Oshkosh beat La Roche today, 77-68. The Titans were up just 1, 39-38 at HT. Steckbauer went for 24 and Mahoney was the only other player for Oshkosh in double figures with 14.

If you want to compare, Carnegie Mellon beat La Roche by 23 and CWRU best them by 20

Platteville holds off St. John's 80-78. I really wish Platteville would have played Stockton and Keene St since they can probably schedule St. John's whenever they want, basically.

100%. Bad, sad day for a proud league. Need to turn these results around the rest of 2023.

Maybe a little perspective.

Babson is a real good team with an AA in Amado and a 1st team NESCAC transfer in Baxter. They are picked 2nd in the NEWMAC. They also received votes in the preseason poll.

Redlands is quickly becoming a powerhouse team this season, basically destroying everyone they play, including ranked ETBU and ranked Middlebury and now ranked Oshkosh. Redlands is coached by Eric Bridgeland who ran those dominant Whitman teams a few years ago.

Keene St is a Top 5 team.

The preseason #1 team has already lost twice.

Preseason #12 JHU is 2-3

CCIW favorite North Park lost twice over the weekend.

The UAA lost over half their games yesterday.

#24 Middlebury is 0-4.

I doubt it's doom and gloom for the WIAC. Everyone is taking their lumps.

Redlands played a strong, press defense.  Turned the Titans over quite a bit.  Rindfliesch injury hurt them, his height would have helped press breaks.

The GLI was a nice event.

UW Platteville is mourning the death of it's Athletic Director Dr. Kristina Navarro-Krupka. Dr. Navarro was an enthusiastic supporter of Platteville Athletics and an innovative leader for the University and D3 athletics. In addition to her time at Platteville she also spent time at UW Whitewater. My condolences to her family she will be missed.

What's going on at UWSP?? Found out today Bowling Green transfer Jackson Watson quit the team along with Brennan Timm and all is not going well right now! That's after the departure of Landon Val Caster unexpectedly which was a 6'8" kid who could shoot it and was extremely versatile. I think it's way too early to judge and people kind of have to expect there would be battle for spots and playing time. I hope it's not true that some are already calling for Scott Anderson to be in charge of the team!

It's called change. They have the right head coach in charge now.

Greek Tragedy

As a fan, I liked Timm. Bigger guy at 6'5". But, as a player, probably pretty tough going from a starter at 22 minutes a game to playing a total of just 10 minutes in 3 games. That can happen when a new coach brings in his guys in the tune of 10-12 new recruits, many with height. He probably just saw the writing on the wall.

I have no doubt Coach knows what he's doing. And yes, they have the right guy. I don't think there were too many that thought it would be someone else. There's going to be casualties with a new coach coming in. The last game he started 3 freshmen and a transfer. 9 guys are averaging double digits.

That would be ridiculous as Dernbach is a seasoned coach. Let them flounder awhile but he'll get them upright. They have a few win potentials the next few weeks.  If their fans/ alums want instant results after being a doormat the past few years; not happening.

Now if they lost Butler now that would be devastating in the short term, my guess is he moves up to D1 next year anyway. He's got some game.

Easy change argument to make with Timm, but not Watson. Watson committed after Dern was named head coach. That's an interesting one that is hard is explain.

Maybe he's not good enough to get minutes? Simple answer.

I should've made it clear I'm not questioning what coach Dernbach is doing just pointing out the caliber players they've lost in the last couple weeks and more to come potentially. I've been told the kids that aren't there any longer all had attitude problems and it's a good thing they're gone. Kids need to remember once you graduate high school and try to play in college no one cares what you did in high school the WIAC is truly a mans league so physical and you have to be ready to take a beating physically!
