Quote from: WIACer on February 27, 2024, 04:24:35 PMCongrats UWP. They were the class of the WIAC. WW not sure what happened? They had the talent, but the wheels fell off. Head scratcher, but they didn't look like they were having fun toward the end. From the outside looking in. The others were solid teams, but on any given day they would win or lose to each other.
This year the conference was tough on itself.  Stout was the only WIAC team with a losing non-conferenc record. WW went 10-1 in non-conference but went 7-8 (including the WIAC tournament)during the WIAC season. Four of WW loses were by 5 points or less so a few more FTs, 3pt baskets or turnovers could have made a difference.

Dominican 6'3" Transfer G, Joshua West, has had contact with both UWSP and UWW.  West averaged 18 a game last season and was 1st Team All Conference.

6'6" Woodstock(IL) F, Spencer Cullum, has committed to Whitewater.  I think this is a big get for the Warhawks, Cullum was player of the year of his conference and has a lot of athleticism to his game.  I know UWSP also had him for a visit.

Good luck to the lone WIAC team in the tournament.  Go Pioneers!

Has anyone heard any names being floated around for UWEC. It looks like it could be a highly sought after job.

Platteville wins 89-52. They started strong led by 12 at half then poured it on in the 2nd half. Max Love was hot the entire game and led Platteville  with 27 points.  Bristol Lewis came off the bench and added 14. Platteville plays Loras of Dubuque tomorrow. Loras dominated Gustavus Adolphus 89-64.

A few posts ago Bob Semling the former SP coach and a UWEC alum was mentioned.

Wasn't sure if that was an actual thing.

Was UWW interim or did they make it permanent?

I noticed an interesting uniform rule change in the women's game last night when a Milikin player wore the #7. The NCAA has made all numbers eligible. So you could start seeing numbers like 99, 77, etc. This was the first time I've seen it this year in either the men's or women's games. I don't know if it applies to the men or not but my hunch is that it will. It could be a little confusing to scorers trying to figure out what number an official is signaling.

Not a biggie and questionably "interesting" I suppose.  :)

WIAC awards out. No real surprises.
With Pearson winning this year's POY award, that now marks the fourth time in the last six years that the WIAC POY has come from Kimberly High School.  Boots (UWO,) Borchert (UWO-Twice) and now Pearson (Platteville) have all seen great success in the WIAC after their high school careers came to a close.

I know where I'd be spending some time walking the halls recruiting if I was coaching in the WIAC....

Platteville advances to the Sweet 16 with a 81-67 win over Loras. Loras started strong and went to a double digit lead. At the half way point of the 1st half a double technical was called on both coaches. This caused the refs to call a tighter game and Platteville started to hit its shots. Platteville led 36-28 at the half. They kept the lead around 10 points until about 5 minutes left when Loras cut the lead to 6. Ben Probst made 3 consecutive 3pt baskets to increase Platteville's lead to 15 and Platteville maintained that lead. Logan Pearson led Platteville with 28 points Ben Probst added 22. It's interesting to note that  last night's leading scorer Max Love didn't score at all tonight. Platteville advances to face Case Western Reserve next weekend.

I don't know the ins and outs of the selection committee, but I'm guessing Trine hosting had to do with the 500 mile rule? I would've thought CWRU and Platteville would've had better arguments to host in terms of Regional Rankings?

Yeah. Because you would be flying at least one of the teams if it wasn't at Trine. Plus Platteville is a bit out of the way from a major airport without significant travel added on top of that.

Trine was pretty much the plan from the beginning.  Geography was always going to dictate the second weekend host.  Bracket is too spread out.

My understanding is that Whitewater has begun accepting applications for the head coaching position.  I haven't heard anything about the schedule for interviews, etc.
