AJ Uttech is transferring from UWSP to Stout.  AJ needs to improve his outside shooting to get minutes in the WIAC, he's improved his athleticism since high school though.

Logan Pearson initially said he was going back to Platteville, now he's entering the portal.  He entered last year only to come back, we will see what happens.  He's obviously a huge loss if he leaves.

Of course it will hurt, but I still think UWP will be a top 5 team in the country next year. They'll just get bigger roles from the other returners, who are capable of huge games, which we saw during tournament time.

Lots of veterans and leaders returning (Probst, Olson), Love had a break out year and kept getting better, the freshman and sophomores kept improving and they got great production or of them. Plus one of the best coaching staffs in the country.

The WIAC should be their's next year, which means if you are tops in the WIAC,  you are top in the country.

Sorry to say...but without Pearson, Platteville is not a top 5 team in the country.

Definitely hearing rumblings from some of the bigger d3 programs that they're putting together NIL money to keep top players from leaving.  Nothing confirmed, but it wouldn't be surprising either.  I wonder if there's some measure of leverage here.  We might see the best players routinely entering the portal just to get the best deal from their current school.

Ashwaubenon G, Jayden Schoen, has decommitted from Oshkosh.  This seems odd from a local kid.

Greek Tragedy

How big is NIL in D3? I mean, is a D3 school going to pay thousands to keep a player? If it's only 100s, is it worth leaving a school you like to chase NIL money? I really don't have a grasp of how big NIL is at this level.

Is the local donut shop giving a kid a few 100 to show up for a meet and greet?

What the actual numbers might be is interesting, but I haven't gotten that far yet in any conversation.  Like I said, it's all been rumors, but all involving players schools are very interested in keeping and schools that have alumni and fan support at the level where it's believable.  It could just be rumor - a lot of that happens this time of year, as recruiting heats up - but it's not unthinkable.

I do know of at least one d3 star getting $200 a month from a local business - but that's unrelated to keeping them in school - just a way the alumni owner is supporting the student and getting some publicity for the business.

In the 90s there were thousands of dollars going into "leadership scholarships" that schools were funneling to athletes.  The NCAA did a good job of getting rid of that kind of thing, but I'm sure the desire to essentially do the same thing still exists.

If an NIL collective can give two or three or five thousand dollars to a kid to help with school and get or keep them there, why not?  You won't be stealing recruits from d1 that way, but you might persuade a kid who was going to walk on somewhere to come your direction.

If a star is looking to take a half scholarship at a D2, you might be able to make up the difference through NIL.

A lot is possible, but only time will tell how it works out.

Beloit Turner 6'4" W, Tyshawn Teague-Johnson, has committed to the Pointers.  This is a huge get for the Pointers, Teague-Johnson brings athleticism like Malik Abdul-Wahid possesses.

If Pearson were to miraculously go to the Pointers do you believe they'd be a top 15 team in country with upside! I'm dreaming obviously but just imagine

We will get some scheduling news for next season when the 2024 Great Lakes Invitational matchups and schedule is announced tonight at 8 PM ET: https://youtu.be/uMQvyLC98bw

UW-La Crosse will be joined in the eight-team field by Calvin (host), Emory, Hope, John Carroll, Johns Hopkins, Marietta, and Saint John's.

Pretty hard to criticize a great D3 event like the Great Lakes Invite, but La Crosse gets paired up with St. John's, who they seem to play every other year and a host of other MIAC teams, and Marietta, who they just played in the 22-23 season. I would've like to see the Eagles go up against JHU, JCU or Emory.

I do plan on making the trip depending on who Point has at their 4-team tournament the same weekend, I believe.

On top of La Crosse's opponents...which like you said, would have been cool to see them playing teams they didn't just play...but why would La Crosse get the 1 pm time slot on both days?  They kind of got the shaft on that one.  I get them having the earliest game once, but not twice.
