have hired Jarrod Wichser to be the next men's basketball coach.

I find this intersting. Let's face it. UWW had the biggest collapse in recent years. Talent. Not saying he is not a nice guy. But, there are a lot of nice guys. UWW certainly had a solid pool of candidates.

UWO pick up a nice commit today in former Appleton East standout Joey LaChapell....

LaChapell scored the 3rd most points in a season in FVA history in 2023-24 as he averaged 27.2 PPG.

Only current Iowa State guard Jackson Paveletzke (29.4ppg) and former UWGB/Oshkosh North standout Pete Wade (28.1ppg) averaged more points in a season.

Three of the four finalists had losing career records at schools in considerably weaker conferences. One has to assume those who the selection committee felt were the strongest candidates were selected to be interviewed.  Again one has to make the assumption that from that group the strongest four were chosen to
be finalists. Of those four Wichser was the only one with a winning record. So I'm not so sure how solid the pool was to begin with.  I know it was large (70+) but that doesn't necessarily make it solid.

I think what a lot of people are missing when they compare 2023-24 to 2022-2023 is the impact Derek Gray's death had on the team.  I'm not sure how to describe it but it was significant particularly as the season progressed.  That was largely generated by the players themselves rather than the staff. I didn't sense any of that this year.  We had the same players but they weren't the same if that makes sense.

I'm ok with the selection personally.  He's our guy and has my support. Time will tell if that works out or not.  In the meantime GO HAWKS

I hear you. But it's UWW. I would guess pretty solid pool. Now maybe committee wanted this. It happens. Wish him the very best. I'll put it this way. Imagine the collapse and you are talking about UWW Football. Tough league, UWW has typically been solid with tradition.

I would have thought too.

If you look at the Whitewater team, one could come to the conclusion that it was a huge disappointment going from a Final Four team to missing out on the NCAAs entirely the following season with virtually the same team. However, you also have to realize that they wouldn't have even made the tournament had they not won the WIAC tournament. It's not like they were 25-3 going into the NCAAs. They escaped a 1st round game vs River Falls by 2 points. I have no doubt Derek Gray's death weighed heavily on the team throughout the season and may have helped them push through and make a run to the Final Four. I guess if you compare the two seasons, they really weren't that much worse than their Final Four team, they just didn't have that incredible run. Maybe they were never a Final Four caliber team.

I'm just basing it on their play last year. From the beginning of the year to the end. Same kids, better talent and a team and bench that just didn't look happy.Something certainly changed. I think they had a lot of talent.

Bloomer 6'3" G, Domanyck Swartzenberger, has committed to Stout.  Domanyck is a good shooter who can score in bunches.

Not knowing anything about the pool of candidates. I would think Wichser's familiarity with the Warhawk program and the WIAC would give him a leg up on other candidates. This is not the first time a WIAC program promotes an Assistant Coach to Head Coach. UW RF promoted Berkhof, UWP promoted Gard and UWO promoted Lewis. Although he spent time away UW SP's Dernbach had a long history at Point. Given the tradition of Warhawk Football they have done the same. Rindahl was promoted as was Bullis. Berezowitz was an assistant under Perkins. Lance Leipold had a strong WW background. Knowing how things are done at a school given the fact that the Search Committee usually comes from within helps in a big way.

This is very unique.  Former SPASH and Madison College 6'8" F, Keith Hoffman, has committed to play his last year of basketball at UWSP.  He started a business after high school and didn't start basketball for a few years after that.  He was a JUCO All American at Madison College and got a scholarship to D2 West Florida.  I'm not completely sure but I think he is 25-26 years old at this point.  UWSP needed some more experience, Hoffman has plenty.

PauldingLightUP

My wissports unofficial research shows Hoffman scored one point in his SPASH varsity basketball career against Sussex Hamilton on December 28 2014. In two years playing quarterback for SPASH (one as a starter) totaled 40-85 passes for 488 yards, 4TDs, 10 INTs, and -43 rushing yards. He punted twice for 63 total yards and one inside the 20

Definitely an interesting case. He put up some solid numbers at the community college in Madison. Then went to D2 West Florida, but only played about 12 minutes a game, averaging just 3.2 ppg and 2.1 rpg. He did play with ex-Skidmore stud Tautvydas Kupstas. At the least, adds depth.

It's to be noted that his Twitter account actually says, "No high school basketball experience."
