UWL shot 24 pct. in a poor first half against NWU. Down 13 at half, they were unable to get closer than 5 the rest of the way. The Sonnentag Center is impressive, but I wonder if it will improve attendance.

I thought I heard something about volleyball. Edgewood is the #1 seed for the NACC tournament.

That's what the Point radio guys said Sunday. Edgewood is hosting a game, which pushed back MBB.

That's fair to such venerable competition.

Point in a dog fight, up 28-25 vs MSOE. Up 8-0 almost 5 minutes in, but then went cold. Started out 7 of 12, but finished the half 3 of 18. 33%. 3 of 14 from 3.

Krohn was a monster vs Lakeland inside, but has done little to get into the paint tonight.

Point went on a huge run to start the 2nd half to virtually put the game away. They pushed the lead to 21 with about 12 minutes to go. Point had 4 players in double figures. They head to Madison to play at the Edge Dome vs Edgewood this weekend.

WIAC falls to two MIAC opponents as well. Looks like a very long year for Stout as they lose to Hamline by 20. River Falls was down 16 at HT at Macalester before losing by just 4.

Those are the last three National Champions . . . that's fairly ambitious scheduling.

The Edgewood Volleyball team hosts in round 2 of their conference tournament tonight. Should they win as expected they will also host on Saturday. We'll know the basketball game time for Saturday as soon as their match finishes. Parking could be interesting with the Badgers playing Oregon in football Saturday night. Volleyball, Basketball and I know the Edgewood grounds park a lot of cars for a Badger football game.

They actually have the last FOUR National Champions on their schedule. Oshkosh.

Falcons lose to a respectable Macalester team with two good guards and a couple of burly inside players who
got in foul trouble early. Mac shot 64% from 3 range and 54% overall to race out to a 15-3 lead and 15 point edge later. Second half was much better for Falcons but too late. RF could not shoot free throws and got caught flat footed three times as Scots scored 3 long pass/easy layups after made free throws.

It was a 6 turnover game for both teams. Leifker played well w/22 pts, 7 rebounds.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Greek Tragedy

Disappointing loss for the Falcons. The MIAC doesn't have a preseason poll, but Mac finished just 6-14 in 9th place last season. The Falcons are predicted 4th after finishing 2nd last year. TBH, probably a bad loss.

Going into the weekend, the WIAC is just 6-8. Definitely not the standards of the WIAC of old.

1. Point (2-0): Nothing too impressive. Lakeland is picked last in the NACC after finishing last year. MSOE is a good team, so a decent win there.

2. Whitewater (1-0): A good road win (any is). Carroll isn't very good, picked 6th in the CCIW. Looks like everything is going to go through Capstran and Barker, combining for 50 of the Warhawks' 77 points. No review from BadgerWarhawk?

3. Eau Claire (1-1): A good start for the Blugolds. A great win over ranked Nebraska Wesleyan, albeit sans Peter Lash and an OT loss to GAC, who finished tied for 2nd in the MIAC last year.

4. La Crosse (1-1): Same can be said for the Eagles. They beat GAC, but then lost to NWU the following night.

5. Platteville (1-1): Easily could be 0-2 but escaped with a 1-1 record after their miracle finish vs ranked Calvin. Got their butts handed to them by host and ranked IWU. By far the toughest opening schedule for the WIAC conference.

6. Oshkosh (0-1): Not a horrible loss at ranked St. John's. Really, rebuilding, picked 6th this year.

7. River Falls (0-1): Disappointing loss to Macalaster, in my opinion.

8. Stout (0-3): Looks like it's going to be a long year for the Blue Devils.

Point plays at Edgewood this weekend. The Eagles are picked 9th in the NACC, but they did just knock off Dubuque at the Edge Dome. The Spartans were picked 2nd in the ARC this year. Point had problems with the Eagles two years ago down there, but smoked them at Quandt last season.

Edgewood's women's volleyball won tonight, so they'll host the conference championship at noon Saturday. I'm guessing the men's basketball game won't get moved for a 4th time and will keep it's 5 pm game time.

Volleyball at noon. So, basketball at 5pm likely is it.
