'95 Blugold

Blugolds having a tough time holding on to leads in their 3 losses. Had some issues with that last year as well. Hopefully with some experience we can start holding on to those 2nd half leads.

Where would be a good fit? Why?

WIAC a better fit in general I think. I just remember Colton Hall having a good WVC career and getting lost out at UMARY. Grass isn't always greener in Division II.

I see them as students, so if he's a business guy he goes to Oshkosh. An environmental science guy, Point. Hotel management, Stout. Etc.

Former WW star Miles Barnstable is starting for D1 University of St.Thomas. He is one of their leading scorers at 13 points per game after 5 games.

Greek Tragedy

Biggest game tonight is probably Carthage traveling to Platteville. Platteville has been sitting on their blowout loss at IWU opening weekend.

Oshkosh has been probably  better than expected and hosts Carroll.

River Falls travels to St. Olaf.

Aurora hosts Whitewater.

Finally a nice little 4-0 night for the WIAC. That's more like it.

Greek Tragedy

La Crosse has a real fun weekend. They are participating in the Great Lakes Invite at Calvin College.

The Eagles play Marietta, who is undefeated. Tomorrow they play Johns Hopkins. Other great teams in the is 8-teamn field include 5 ranked teams, John Carroll, Hope, Calvin, St. John's and Emory, two team in the "other receiving votes" category in La Crosse and Johns Hopkins and an undefeated unranked team in Marietta. Can't get a much better weekend than this.

La Crosse cruises to a 99-75 whipping of previously undefeated Marietta. 5 players in double figures and Paider wasn't one of them.

6'4" Kettle Moraine G, Roman Thompson, has committed to play at Eau Claire.  Malvik doing some good work for the Blugolds so far.

Greek Tragedy

Not basketball related, but WIAC women's volleyball had 5 teams invited to the big dance and all 5 advanced to the 2nd round.

Point up 38-32 on a good undefeated North Central (MN) who is 3-0 vs MIAC teams so far. Bolden in foul trouble, played just 8 minutes. Still looking for depth as Abdul-Wahid has played 19 minutes and Butler 18 minutes at the break.

Point holds off a pesky North Central (MN) team, 63-60. The Rams had a chance to tie it by missed a contested 3. The D3hoops.com site had them at 4-0, beating Carleton, but both schools' websites have Carleton beating North Central, so we'll go with that. North Central is picked in the middle of the pack, but they are obviously a decent team.

Depth still seems to be a concern. Butler and Abdul-Wahid played 37 and 38 minutes. If either gets hurt or in foul trouble, someone needs to step up.

Baumgartner logged 26 minutes with Bolden in 1st half foul trouble. He did well, going 3-8 for 11 points and 6 rebounds. Crohn had another verty good game, going for 17 and 7. He played 32 minutes, so Point went small when he wasn't in there because Hoffman played just 2 minutes. Combs was the only other player in double figure minutes with 10. Basically played 7 deep. I really think we're gonna need more minutes and production in the long run.

Point hosts Northland, who was 0-25 last season, on Tuesday before hosting St. Olaf the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Nearly a full slate of games today.

Point (4-0): Just escaped North Central (MN) last night. Undefeated but haven't played anyone.

La Crosse (3-1): Just destroyed previously unbeaten Marietta (who beat Eau Claire) at the Great Lakes Invite. They play Johns Hopkins today, who also received votes in the Top 25. Oh, by the way, the Blue Jays handled #3 John Carroll yesterday at the GLI. Only loss was to ranked Nebraska Wesleyan.

Oshkosh (3-1): Oshkosh looks vastly improved from their last place WIAC finish last season. They lost to a tough St. John's team, but beat a Top 10 team in Calvin and Manchester, who's picked to win the HCAC. They have a good one today against North Park. NPU got hammered by WLC and La Crosse, but had a nice win against preseason #2 ARC Loras.

Whitewater (3-1): Not sure what to think of the Warhawks. I don't recall hearing anything from BadgerWarhawk lately. They had an OT loss at Cornell (4-1), but won games by 6, 3 and 3. Hey, at least they're winning those games. They host Coe today, who has actually split two games with Cornell this season already.

Platteville (2-1): Platteville rebounded after their long layoff from opening weekend with a win over Carthage. Carthage is picked 2nd in the CCIW and continues their CCIW opponents with North Central (IL) today and Augustana next week. The Cardinals (3-0) haven't played a home game yet. They had a nice West Coast trip that included a nice win over Whitman, who always seems to be pretty good.

River Falls (1-2): Tough start for River Falls this season, but got their 1st win with a 19-point road win at St. Olaf. They host St. Mary's (MN) tonight, who beat Crown earlier this year, one of the Falcons' losses.

Eau Claire (1-3): The Blugolds are just 1-3, but they did beat ranked Nebraska Wesleyan by 4. Then they proceeded to lose to Gustavus in OT by 6, Marietta by 2 and ranked Maryville (TN) by 4. Whitewater is winning close games and Eau Claire is losing close games. The Blugolds host Bethel tonight.

Stout (0-4): Stout is the lone winless team after losing to ranked IWU. They travel to Concordia-Moorhead this afternoon, hoping to get a nice road win.

Oshkosh, Platteville and Whitewater all make the Sweet 16.
