Greek Tragedy

Quote from: tomt4525 on December 19, 2024, 09:26:01 PMDon't forget the 10-20 shooting from the free throw line, or getting out rebounded 37-22...Point shouldn't have won tonight.  They have a lot to clean up, good win over a good opponent though.

On the other hand, we shot 53% against a team that usually gives up only 40% to opponents. We are also shooting the 3 a lot better recently. We were down 15 early on and instead of folding to a perennial national contender, We rallied. And despite going 10 for 20 from the line we still won. As you said, lots to work on. However, lots of positives as well.

Good to see Seth Miron back tonight, even though Point lost.

Rough showings for the Titans and Warhawks out on the road. Bad shooting nights."

SNC got UWO out of their game big time in the final 30 minutes. First 10 minutes was competitive.

Thankfully La Crosse beat Ripon at home.

Platteville beats Bethany Lutheran out of Minnesota 101-61. Miles Hettinger came off the bench to lead Platteville with 20 points. Plattevville plays St. Norberts tomorrow in St. Norbert's Holiday Tournament.

Wow. Oshkosh smoked #12(?) Keene State. La Crosse got by Hamline. Swap opponents today, not that anyone can watch it online/TV. Point hosts a dangerous North Park team that seems to have found their groove. Completely different team that La Crosse blew out by 29 and Oshkosh near handily.

I listened to it since they can't stream it due to some Bucks trademark issue....I am glad I am not a lawyer, just a humble landscape architect. Anyway, seemed like the Titans had the hammer down.

Watching the game in Quandt online reminded me to ask why they need to have a buzzer that can cause hearing issues for anyone who is within 50 feet.  :-*

Hope they can keep the lead, momentum clearly in NP hands at half even down 10.

Platteville survives an upset bid against St. Norbert 60-54 in OT.

Point wins it, 90-73. A little harder than the score may indicate. Point had balanced scoring with all 5 starters in double figures. Only 11 points from the bench. NPU shot just 6-16 from the line. Point shot 17-25. Still not good enough. Point coughed it up 16 times against NPU's pressure, but dished out 18 assists on 32 made shots. A real nice win against the only undefeated CCIW team in conference play.

A WIAC sweep today as they go 7-0. Whitewater was the only team off today.

3 non-conference games remain as Stout and River Falls swap opponents at River Falls' holiday tournament. Stout plays St. Scholastica tomorrow, riding a 4 game winning streak after starting off 0-6. River Falls hosts ex-WIAC member UW-Superior. Whitewater hosts Ripon tomorrow. The WIAC is a solid 60-25, good for 70.58%. With 3 wins tomorrow, the WIAC could end up 71.59%.

In the Way Too Early Look at the NCAA tournament and NPI, Platteville, La Crosse and Oshkosh look great, while Point is in the bottom 3rd of Pool C consideration. Eau Claire has won 7 in a row now, improving to 8-3, but they are still pretty far down the pecking order.

Believe it or not, the conference schedule gets started this weekend with some barnburners to kick it off.

Oshkosh at Stout
Eau Claire at La Crosse
Platteville at Stevens Point
River Falls at Whitewater

Platteviile takes home the Championship in St. Norbert's Holiday Tournament with a 60-54 OT win. A night after Platteville scored 101 points with 54% shooting Platteville struggled on offense shooting 29% and 18% from 3. Joey Fuhremann was a key for Platteville by grabbing 17 rebounds. Platteville opens WIAC play on the road at Stevens Point and at LaCrosse.

I did some checking on how former WIAC players are doing at D1 programs. Brody Fox from Stout has started al 11 games this season at The Citadel in South Carolina. He is their leading scorer with 28 points per game. Miles Barnstable from Whitewater has started all 15 games at The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He also is their leading scorer at 24 points per game. In this time of the Transfer Portal I hope the WIAC doesn't become a feeder system for D1 schools.

I thought those were some pretty impressive stats. I wanted to see how "good" The Citadel was, which I still have no clue since I don't know any of their opponents. With that said, Fox does lead The Citadel in scoring, but 16.8 ppg, not the more impressive 28 ppg. Not sure what you mistakenly saw.

Barnstable does lead four players in double-figures for St. Thomas, but just 13.3, not 24. LOL. Again, not sure what you were looking at.

I think you were looking at minutes played per game?

You're right I flipped Minutes per game with points per game. I shouldn't post on New Years day after a long night.  Happy New Years everyone
