Going into tonight's games, here is the updated NPI.

2. Platteville - 67.797 - Pool A
6. La Crosse - 65.343 - Pool C #2
35. Stevens Point - 59.852 - C17
53. Oshkosh - 58.231 - C30
67. Eau Claire - 57.270 - C40
109. Whitewater - 54.572 - C77
228. River Falls - 49.250 - C185
233. Stout - 49.080 - C190

Top NPI ranked Wesleyan beat Trinity on the road, so they'll stay #1 over Platteville. #3 IWU also won and they're on the heels of Platteville. La Crosse could drop with teams around them also winning. Point is in trouble. They'll probably drop out of the top 21 Pool C bids. Oshkosh will probably sneak closer to a Pool C tournament bid, maybe mid-20s. They beat River Falls, which has a pretty bad NPI number. Eau Claire could be mid-30s with their win over Point.

I won't update the NPI until Monday because all the UAA teams play tomorrow and a lot of their results will effect the WIAC teams.

I guess I couldn't wait to see the bad news.

Platteville stays at #2

La Crosse stays at #6 and C2

Point goes from #35 to #47 and drops to C25

Oshkosh, despite winning, drops from #53 to #56 and from C30 to C31. I believe part of the reason is because the win was against River Falls and their numbers are really bad.

In the same sense, that's why Eau Claire jumped from #67 to #58 and from C40 to C32, they beat Stevens Point, which has a lot better numbers compared to River Falls.

ChickenHoops

I got back late last night and me (and the chickens) watched the Point game on WIAC Network.  They are regressing. You have to defend and rebound before you get to focus on one on one offensively, unless you are a stud; the WIAC probably has like 3 of them. Pearson, Huschka and one recovering from season ending injury (I think) in Oshkosh is all there is. Maybe JJ Paider at LaCrosse.  I thought Point had one in Butler but he is wildly inconsistent.

In a bout of  insomnia I also watched, albeit quickly, the Oshkosh game.  They are changing the lineups and improving without MMG but as you said above, RF is marginal so maybe it's a mirage.

I don't see Point or Oshkosh being NCAA factor unless they win the WIAC tournament. Hope I am wrong. Both their WBB teams have a better shot.

Half way home, thinking about awards. Pearson is probably going win player of the year on pedigree alone. Although Huschka is having a great year, he could make a case. Really Pearson's to lose. On the same note Gard should probably win coach of the year, although first year coach Malvik could make a case if Blugold's make top four. Coach of the year always seems to go to regular season winner, so maybe Gritzmacher could get there. Newcomer seems like all LaChapell. Like I don't even know who's second. No other newcomers contributing at that level.

I could be wrong, I haven't looked it up by any means...but doesn't Newcomer of the Year include transfers?  If that's the case, I would think Renta at Eau Claire would have a strong case.  I'll say this though, I would prefer newcomers only include freshman, Lachapell certainly has been impressive this season.

Always something missing with this Pointer team it seems this season.  They took another one on the chin on Saturday at Eau Claire.  This time, their offense was good enough but their defense was non-existent.  They spent about a 5 minute period of the second half leaving Michael Casper wide open and he proceeded to hit 5 threes, that was the game right there.

Bright spot for me was to see Tyshawn-Teague Johnson in the starting lineup.  He has a bright future with his athleticism.  Josiah Butler got it going on the offensive end as well, it's been awhile since seeing that.  He'll have to keep that going.

From last year's announcement. "Transfers are not eligible unless they didn't participate in men's basketball at their previous institution."

Call me crazy, but maybe it should be known as Freshman of the Year!

That would be too offensive for some. A lot of colleges now call them first years.

Since this is the WIAC, I'm sure Governor Evers would be offended.

I love the fact that three of the top five are D3 guys.
