Hettinger is the cheapest player in the conference and I haven't seen a close second.

He flat out just elbowed Miron square in the face, what makes it worse...refs go to the monitor and do nothing about it.  These refs are brutal and that seems like it's been the case way too often this season.

Renta didn't play for the Blugolds and that was pretty much that. Eau Claire kept it close in the first half, but La Crosse rolls in the second half.

'95 Blugold

Only got to watch the first half of the Blugolds tonight and even though it appears that was the better half for the Blugolds they just seemed like they were constantly fighting an uphill battle the whole half. As mentioned just above Renta did not play for the Blugolds which I'm sure played heavily into it, but even with him I'm not sure they pull it off tonight. Nice to see the improvement 1st year coach Zach Malvik was able to accomplish. Hopefully they can build on this for the future.

At this point, I guess it's what I should expect.  I think all season, officiating has been consistently inconsistent rather than what they are paid to do.  Platteville was allowed to guard with their hands and be physical all night.  If Point got physical, whistle.  With that said, they didn't back down from the WIAC champion.

This also needs to be said, feel awful for Malik as he wasn't able to finish his career on the court.  It was a lot of fun watching Malik in a Pointer uniform, get well soon.

Agreed - feel bad for how he went down and couldn't finish out the game.

This UWSP team at times played really well this year. Other times, they looked like the very young team they actually were.

They won multiple games they had no business winning (home vs. Stout, at Oshkosh) and lost some games they probably should have won.

They need some more depth, some more strength, and some more shots in an empty gym between now and November of next year. This league is an upperclassman league.

UWSP's rotation was 2 seniors, 2 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 3 freshmen. That's tough when going up against teams with multiple seniors and juniors.

My hope is that this core stays together and continues to build on the foundation that has been laid!

I'm looking forward to Friday's championship. The best that the WIAC has to offer. One will get to have a celebratory weekend, while one will be wanting the weekend to end and just get to the bracket show on Monday.

Greek Tragedy

Ugh. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the game last night, but from the sounds of it, I saved myself some swearing and controller throwing. Usually there's only one team that ends their season without a loss, but we obviously would have liked to play a few more games.

As mentioned above and I have also mentioned it, point is still a young team in my opinion. The starters and the coaching staff have only been together for 2 years. So, hopefully next year will be the year where we will take another step forward and make the NCAA tournament. The inconsistencies showed all year, and the lack of depth was an issue as well. Good luck to Platteville and La Crosse in the tournament, they are both really good, so hopefully they will represent the WIAC well.

There was a lot less hope after the injury.  I thought they had a decent chance before that.

I'm not sure if I'll get any but I'm going to try and get some clarity on that blatant elbow from Hettinger on Miron last night.

I'm under the assumption that contact above the shoulders is a point of emphasis, correct?  How can the refs go to the monitor and see it and do nothing about it?  I'm also assuming that at the very least, they have the same video that was replayed to the viewers during the review.  If that's also the case, it's an obvious call.

It happened with a minute and 5 seconds left in the first half if anyone is wanting to go back and watch, I would love some other opinions.  I included a link to the game.  They give a good replay a handful of times during the official review so watch into those.  Thanks

Hats off to Stevens Point they wouldn't back down. Several times Platteville had a 7 or 8 point lead and you thought they were starting to pull away and SP would close the gap back to a one procession game. I didn't see what happened to Malik but SP didn't let that phase them. Ben Probst also went down he tried to come back but he finished the game in the training room. The way the game was called you thought the refs were getting paid by the number of times they blew their whistle. When Logan Pearson fouled out with 1:30 left and Platteville was up by 7 the rest of the team picked it up and made their free thows to secure the win. It seemed like Platteville was playing not to lose instead of playing to win. If they play like that against La Crosse it could be another long night.

I don't think there's any intention there.  He's trying to clear the guy out and hits his face.  There used to be an unintentional contact to the head call, but I can't find that in the rule book, so maybe it's not available anymore.

This seems to hinge on whether or not they deemed him "swinging the elbow."  I think I'd agree with them, it's a forearm shove and not a swinging elbow.  Since they called the foul on Miron first, I guess they didn't think they could assess a double foul?  I feel like that would be the preferred call.

You can always contact Jim Haney, NCAA d3 mbb coordinator of officials, he's usually happy to respond to inquiries like this.

If intention is part of the call, then I guess that leaves it up to the officials discretion.  I thought that there didn't need to be intention though, I thought it was any contact above the shoulders could warrant a foul call.  I could very well be wrong on that regard.

Every game I've watched Hettinger play this year, he's involved in stuff like this.  This wasn't even the only incident involving him this game.  I have zero respect for how he plays.

Greek Tragedy

Wow. Even if there isn't "intent" there, you can still call an offensive foul. I mean, if you foul a guy on a shot, you don't mean to foul him, there's no intent there. But, you can clear a guy out without throwing your forearm/elbow back blindly like that. I think that's ridiculous. I'm not even wearing my purple shades glasses.

And honestly, I think there is intent there. He's clearly between Miron and the ball, the ball is going away from them and it looks like the foul on Miron is already called. No reason to throw your arm back like that.

WIACer

I looked back, but had a hard time finding. Lot's of stoppage and fouls called. After watching UWP a number of times, I can say, yes they play physical and somewhat questionable. They do throw elbows and trip (stick their leg out) on purpose. Many do.  Maybe it's a team thing, toughness thing? They are good. When I watch them play, they know the refs are only going to call so many fouls and they are deep. I had to laugh at Pearson on his 5th. Clearly a charge. Maybe it was the other 4. We all know. When you play at UWP. You start the game down 10-0. lol

If you're saying it was hard to find the elbow in question...I mentioned in my first post that it happened with 1 minute and 5 seconds left in the first half.  I'd suggest you keep watching for the next minute or 2 though cuz you get a good look at it from replays during the stoppage.
