The LaCrosse Center isn't that bad for basketball. When the WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament was held there they didn't use the lower seats because of Covid keeping people apart. I remember going to LaCrosse Catbird (CBA) games there right after the Center opened. They were selling taps of Old Style for a dollar so I don't remember that much.

Quote from: tomt4525 on February 27, 2025, 09:27:17 AMI'm not sure if I'll get any but I'm going to try and get some clarity on that blatant elbow from Hettinger on Miron last night.

I'm under the assumption that contact above the shoulders is a point of emphasis, correct?  How can the refs go to the monitor and see it and do nothing about it?  I'm also assuming that at the very least, they have the same video that was replayed to the viewers during the review.  If that's also the case, it's an obvious call.

It happened with a minute and 5 seconds left in the first half if anyone is wanting to go back and watch, I would love some other opinions.  I included a link to the game.  They give a good replay a handful of times during the official review so watch into those.  Thanks

I don't think there's any intention there.  He's trying to clear the guy out and hits his face.  There used to be an unintentional contact to the head call, but I can't find that in the rule book, so maybe it's not available anymore.

This seems to hinge on whether or not they deemed him "swinging the elbow."  I think I'd agree with them, it's a forearm shove and not a swinging elbow.  Since they called the foul on Miron first, I guess they didn't think they could assess a double foul?  I feel like that would be the preferred call.

You can always contact Jim Haney, NCAA d3 mbb coordinator of officials, he's usually happy to respond to inquiries like this.

If intention is part of the call, then I guess that leaves it up to the officials discretion.  I thought that there didn't need to be intention though, I thought it was any contact above the shoulders could warrant a foul call.  I could very well be wrong on that regard.

Every game I've watched Hettinger play this year, he's involved in stuff like this.  This wasn't even the only incident involving him this game.  I have zero respect for how he plays.

The rule is about a thrown elbow.  He definitely hit the guy with his elbow, but I'd call that more a forearm shove than an intentionally thrown elbow.  I also thought there was a contact to the head rule, but I couldn't find it in the rulebook.

Quote from: PauldingLightUP on March 01, 2025, 01:43:47 PMNo idea, but I will say La Crosse Center got recently renovated, so it's not a bad option. It's as new and as upgraded as possible inside for the old building on the outside.

La Crosse Center is so weird because fans are so far from the court, which isn't ideal. Hosted state basketball during COVID and the start of girls wrestling.

My Dad says Bruce Springsteen played there in like 1978 or 79.  No idea what that means for hoops.

Im young so I only made it to a La Crosse Bobcats CBA game as a middle school kid and could not drink so no clue if they still had old style on tap. But I loved the CBA until Isaiah Thomas ruined it. La Crosse Center is a fun place for basketball. Midwest Players Classic has hosted some of the best prep ballers in the area.

Both Platteville and LaCrosse are hosting the first weekend games. Platteville plays Grinnell. Wisconsin Lutheran and Calvin are the other 2 teams at Platteville this weekend.  LaCrosse plays Greenville on Friday while Carthage and St. Norbert will also travel to LaCrosse. NCAA must not have a problem using the LaCrosse Center as a venue. The only thing I know about Grinnell is they used to be run it up the court and shoot a quick three.

Funny how the w WIAC teams get both System teams in the 1st round. Grinnell has turned into The System Light, while Greenville still plays the traditional System, from what I remember.

Platteville could get Calvin the 2nd round. Ouch. Rematch of the memorable season opener. La Crosse could get the CCIW regular season champ.

How does U of Chicago get to host with an 18-7 record, pool C bid and 34 NPI?

They mentioned on the selection show that Illinois Wesleyan will be hosting the Women's tournament this weekend. I don't know why St John's wouldn't host unless it's a travel thing.

It is a travel thing. St Johns and Illinois Wesleyan are more than 500 miles apart but both are within 500 miles of Chicago.  Also as you noted Wesleyan has a facility conflict.

I never thought SJU would host.

UW-La Crosse schedule page confirms the Greenville game at the La Crosse Center. Glad the Eagles get to host still, bummer they aren't truly at home.

Conference gymnastics at Mitchell Hall.

Oshkosh swept Calvin twice earlier this year.

Everyone can get to Chicago within 500 miles. That's not true to St. John's. It happened a few other places too.

Point gets Isaiah Moore from Evanston, IL.  He went to Oakton JC. I'm guessing he'll have 2 years left.

He had some nice stats this previous season. 15.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg.

Hope Tomt4525 is just out of the office today.

He's a lot better at this stuff than I am and we all appreciate his contributions.
