With all of this talk of LaCrosse being a contender for the top of the conference, why does it always involve the 3 D1 transfers? I mean look at the first five games. With the exception of Conigliaro, Luke Homan and Jarrod Pelkofer play 7.8 and 8.2 minutes a game. That is hardly a strong statement that Werner and the 3 D1 transfers will help them be a contender. As of right now Homan and Pelkofer seem to be just playing the sub role. Now I know they need some games under their belt to adjust to this level. I guess my thought is there is too much hype on these 3 D1 transfers. Where would they have played if they hadn't tried to make the D1 out of high school? Answer = WIAC? By the way Conigliaro (who has stepped up where he left off at the end of the season) has already played a year at Lax and he is still considered a transfer in this year? I don't know, although I believe Koebl has done an excellent job at turning around a program in LaCrosse, I still think they may be a year away from contending for a home playoff game.

LOL, we said that when I was a kid and that was considerably longer than 15 years ago, try 40 years ago.  Some things never change.

BW--what you really said back in those days was "where men are men and women ARE too." Otherwise, where's the "humor?"

Don't forget the other schools:

Stout:  When in doubt, go to Stout.
EC:  If you can't get in there, go to Eau Claire.
PVille:  Where the men are men and the sheep are afraid.

Hey Point Special..............

Great job of including the "Roosevelt" quote.  I've had it up on my wall for years.

And to be honest laxeagles1, I know the players Coach K cut, and they ARE NOT WIAC caliber.  Your buddy who is a nice role player at Stritch cannot compete in the WIAC.  In fact, anybody who is a nice role player at an NAIA Division II school would have a hard time competing in the WIAC.

Ah yes.............the truth does come out.  Laxeagles1, I suggest you keep an eye on Koelbl's team.  It takes veteran players to win in the WIAC.  And.......FYI.......Inexperienced players (Frosh and Sophs) will always have trouble winning those close games in the final minutes or regulation and overtime.

And titan2000..............I hope we're able to hear from you in a respectible and intelligent manner throughout the season.  Otherwise I suggest you post on other sites and not here!

there is no doubt this role player(who plays 20-5 mins a game at stritch) would have contributed to the team....i have seen the players kept over him either quit, or 'cut themselves' the year after..........but that is done and over with i am going to enjoy a successful season at lax this year for the first time in my four years here

That's not necessarily true.  There are some very good NAIA D2 schools that would have no problem competing in the WIAC.  I don't know any off hand, but the top 10 schools are comparable to the top 25 D3 schools, or there abouts, from what I've heard.  Head over to the D3 vs. NAIA page and ask around, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than myself could give you some examples of solid NAIA D2 schools. Some NAIA schools are scholarship.

That's not going to happen.

laxeagles1, not to be critical of your posting techniques, but try to be more selective when "quoting."  All because you quote something doesn't mean you have to quote the entire post.  You can delete the majority of it and just keep the subject matter on what you are responding to.  I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but you tend to quote a whole post even though you are only responding to a small portion of it.  Sorry if you take this the wrong way.   ::)

Here is the NAIA D2 poll...

"In fact, anybody who is a nice role player at an NAIA Division II school would have a hard time competing in the WIAC."

That statement shows a real lack of knowledge of the overall small college basketball picture.  There are some great NAIA D2 teams out there -- the top NAIA D2's can play with the WIAC's best.  There are plenty of NAIA D2 "role players" who'd do just fine in the WIAC.

playdefense

No doubt.................NAIA Div II schools can compete with a lot of teams in the country at the NCAA Div III level and even at the NCAA Div II level.  But specifically a role player at Stritch or other NAIA Div II schools...................No sure about that!

badgerwarhawk

I admit to not following NAIA D2 schools at all but one thing I do know and that is that Cardinal Stritch men's basketball is not that good and anyone who can only make it as a role player at Cardinal Stritch, at this time, isn't going to get a lot of playing time in the WIAC.  There was a time when CS's men's basketball was an up and coming program in the state, at their level.  But that ended when Eddie left for Stout.

badgerwarhawk and playdefense,

You know doubt have the "WIAC rosey glasses on".  True, I think the WIAC is one of the best in the nation for D3, but your generalizing when it comes to comparing Cardinal Stritch to rest of NAIA II.  This argument belongs elsewhere, but I have first-hand knowledge of the quality of NAIA programs and it's ridiculous to think those players could not compete at the highest levels in D3 and in the WIAC, specifically.  We try to make it look like we are high and mighty in the WIAC (with championships to prove it), but we are talking about non-scholarship athletes.  There is no doubt many NAIA II teams would compete for the conference championship year-in, year-out.  I can think of several teams off the top of my head that could be compared to Lawrence (or even some of our top conference teams), so please don't ever say D3 has superior teams or athletes, it's a down-right lie. I believe it's closer than most people want to think (now, the lower teams are another story, but the top teams there's no question).

playdefense

Eddie left Mount Senario for Stout, not Cardinal Stritch!  And believe me.............if the state of Wisconsin had more Division I, Division II and more NAIA scholarship schools, the WIAC would not get all the talent it does.  UWGB, Parkside and UWM don't have enough scholarship $ for everybody and Marquette and UW are, for the most part, above it all.  And you can throw out Stritch and Viterbo.
