You posted before I could get it here... did you catch the name of the shooter OS?  It was Kurt Bauer none other than the brother of UWSP Senior Brian Bauer.

They said that KB played for Assumption and that they beat Auburndale... but KB (and BB before him) reside in Auby.

Back from Point.  When I head to Point, I usually don't have access to a computer to give a game report promptly.  Sorry!

Not to post too much because no one reads LONG posts, unless the author is Greg Sager, I'll just throw in a couple of notes.

Stevens Point Game Report, per UWSP Website

Stout is definitely a tough team and tough inside.  Point really didn't have an inside game and normally don't aside from Jon Krull.  But, they do have the shooters to hit from the outside and Hicklin loves those midrange jumpers...a lost art in my book!

As expected, Point was really outrebounded (52-38) as Stout had an amazing 23 offensive rebounds.

From the post game interview, Semling admitted making some "rookie" mistakes and not trusting his bench at all when crunch time came.  Al-Amin played 35 minutes off the bench because it seemed like he was the only one who could break Stout's press (only 10 total turnovers for Point).  He really did a great job.

The five on the floor for the majority of the game was Bauer, Hicklin, Rortvedt, Krull and Al-Amin.  Semling, and even my friends I was with, admitted that that five-some really didn't have much of an offensive flow, but Semling was reluctant to throw anyone else in there.

In my opinion, there was not much choice in all honesty.  Grusczynski starts, but doesn't really play that much, and Beamish and Bouche are your other options.  By no means are they pieces of wood, as they played fine when they were in there, but you really can't take out any of the five that were in there.  Rortvedt, IMO, has better range than Beamish and Al-Amin needed to be in there for the ball handling.  Krull, Bauer and Hicklin are obvious choices to play.

It's no wonder those three are in the top five in minutes played in the WIAC (or something like that)!  ;)

Anyway, enough rambling.  Great game by both teams, a very nice energetic crowd (1800+) and Point surviving to win.

On a side note:  A little cockiness by Jacob Nonemacher and I think Farmer...holding their arms up after making shots.  Nonemacher did it (holding up your arm after your follow through on a shot) after making his 2nd of two free throws to tie the game with 7 seconds left.  Dude, you made the free throw and you're acting like you're the man!  Seriously.  Farmer, I think, also did it after making a clutch shot.  Kind of classless, but hey, we came out with the win.  Congrats on making a shot.  Sorry, just a little bitter, I think I'm done!  :P

He might have gotten away with a few travels in the WHITEWATER[/color] game as well.   He looked like he could end up being a pretty decent player though.

UWO wins NC game with Robert Morris College (Springfield) Sunday afternoon, 69-58.  Five players in double figures, led by Matt Miller's 16 and Kyle Johnson's 15 (both off the bench.)  UWO trailed 32-29 at the half.

Glad to see Matt Miller getting more minutes.   That is the answer I was looking for.

Two thoughts about this season: A recent post made reference to the difficulty of winning on the road in the WIAC, and especially at Quandt. I accept that Point is tough at home, but have you noticed that the VISITORS currently lead the home teams 15-9 this year? I have asked about the relative lack of HCA during previous seasons, but can't recall getting a satisfactory explanation. I wonder what the NCAA average is for home winning percentage. Next imponderable: Is it possible that ALL of our tems will drop from the top 25? Is the league down, balanced or both?

I don't know if the top teams in the league are in the same "league" as the rest in the top 25 this year. All the best have their flaws this year. Point is young and lacks height; LX is improving but hasn't developed a winning attitude yet; Oshkosh has plenty of players but lacks team; Stout is tall but seems to lack take charge type player. Whitewater may be the best we have to offer. I haven't seen them play this year, but the knock has always been great skill players that don't put it all together. Whether or not that is true this year remains to be seen. If they win the next two games on the road this week (PL/ST) that may make me a believer (at least until they come to Point).
