Brian C.--what's your take on the 0/1 total free throws by RF, vs 4/10 by Lax? I'm not implying anything with the question.

Just out of curiousity I'm wondering if any one else has perceived a significant increase in the number of traveling violations that are going uncalled.  I've only seen games in WW[/color] where it's reaching epidemic porportions.

It's one of the reasons I don't like the NBA game that much and now to me it seems that it's starting to creep into the college one.

This just in.....Oshkosh still sucks.

That must mean that Whitewater sucks even more since they lost to a "sucky" Oshkosh team last night??? ???

Mr. Downtown

No no no...let the Whitewater fans weep.

T2K, to answer your question...5,000. Thats how many fit the Kolf Center.

The most impressive thing about Oshkosh as of late, is there ability to get to the free throw line. Again, Whitewater appears on paper, to out play Oshkosh and for sure outshot them. However, when a team takes 13 more free throws then you and makes 12 more...its going make a huge difference.

Oshkosh is now tied for the conference lead, they are finding ways to win, and they have yet to hit full stride. Now that's scary.

CONFERENCE TOURNEY SEEDS

Well thanks to Oshkosh and Platteville, the WIAC is officially now a mess. A 3 way tie on top of the conferece lead with Stevens Point, Whitewater and Oshkosh. Now, earlier in the year, Stevens Point beat Oshkosh. So they should be ahead of Oshkosh. Though, Whitewater beat Stevens Point. So they should be ahead of Stevens Point. Ok so Whitewater gets the number 1 seed...wait a sec. Oshkosh beat Whitewater, so Oshkosh should be ahead of them? Hmm...seems like a tie.

So Overall record will have to do. () means what seed they were last week.

1 Oshkosh (6-2)    (3)
8 River Falls (2-6)  (7)

4 La Crosse (5-3)  (5)
5 Stout        (5-3)  (4)

3 Stevens Point  (6-2) (2)
6 Platteville         (4-4) (6)

2 Whitewater     (6-2)  (1)
7 Eau Claire       (2-6)   (8)

That was the game!  Oshkosh scored three baskets from the field in the last thirteen minutes of play.   But the only weeping I'm doing is for my beloved pet dog who I had to have euthanized (cancer and congestive heart failure) an hour prior to the game.  That was a lot harder to take than the loss at Williams Center.

Two of the three officials were new guys and need to get better quickly.  Pressentin was the only one that was remotely consistant.   But the key to the loss, imo, was the almost four minutes Oshkosh went scoreless midway through the second half, trailing 49-42, and  two turnovers, two missed inside shots and two fouls prevented us from extending the lead.  That was our chance to put the game away and we didn't seize it.  After that we were lucky to take it to overtime.  I commented to my friend, "we'll pay for that later."  I hate it when I'm right like that.

What is it about these two teams that they can't seem to play a game that isn't decided by a couple of points at the buzzer?

Downtown, let me know when you have enough people in the Kolf Center that it doesn't echo. ;)

Midway conference awards

Player of the Year: Joe Werner, La Crosse, La Crosse's run of last place's will be halted for the next couple of years because of this guy. No one is shooting better then him against conference opponents (64.6% FG), and is the biggest reason for the Eagles turn around.

Coach of the Year: Bob Semling, Stevens Point I thought this was a rebuilding year? Great job to keep one of the best DIII basketball programs in the hunt at the halfway point of the conference season.

Conference Team
F Leonard Cobb, Superior Conference leader in PPG, too bad he plays for a bda team

F Joe Werner, La Crosse 13.6 ppg, 7.8 reb, 60% FG shooting...yeah, thats not bad for a big man

G/F Jon Krull, Stevens Point Role player turn into star. Avg. 16.9 points a game, and have you seen how many FT's he has made? (103 to be exact)

G Andy Jahnke, Oshkosh The only consistent player on the Oshkosh squad this year, that is coming on strong. Jahnke is avg. 14.6 ppg and no one has made more 3's then him this year

G Jeremy Manchester, Whitewater Always has been a good scorer (avg. 14.1 ppg), but leads the conference in steals (27), and great assist numbers (50 on the year)

1st half suprise team: La Crosse
1st half disappointing team: Surprise here, I'm going with Platteville. I thought this team would sneak up on some people, and they still can. But again, slow start for the Pioneers

Best Game: Well, tough to say cause I can really only go with what I have seen. But I'm giving the nod to La Crosse and Oshkosh at Kolf.

Regular season champs: You have to look at schedules here for this prediction.
Stevens Point ( 3 home games, 5 Road)
Whitewater    (4/4)
Oshkosh         (5/3)

So, with that being said, I'm going with Oshkosh

Conference tourney champ: Well..lemme use my bracket that I just came up. First round winners would be Oshkosh, La Crosse, Platteville in the upset, and Whitewater Second round: Oshkosh, Whitewater Championship: Oshkosh just because Whitewater seemingly can never figure out a way to beat Oshkosh in the conference tourney.

badgerwarhawk,

Tough few days for you.

The Warhawks lose 4 basketball games and you lose a valued pet. I know how that feels.  :'(

Brian Carroll

Fred Falcon: Thanks for your question regarding FT's at the LC-RF game. I hadn't noticed that LC had 10 throws to only 1 for RF. The refs let 'em play, and only 12 fouls were called on your guys and 10 on ours. The difference, I think, is that RF was called for shooting fouls and LC was not. RF took more outside shots - 17 3's to 12- than did the Eagles. The shooting fouls tended to be on drives to the basket, and LC did more of that. Werner had 4 fouls, but they were called away from the ball or before shots were taken. The game obviously could have gone either way. You may want to check the play-by-play on the website. Good luck in the rematch.

Brian Carroll

My half-slate of awards for half a season: POY: Leonard Cobb. COY Ken Koelbl. Surprise team: La Crosse. Disappointing team: Oshkosh, but only because of the high pre-season expectations. Conference champ: Oshkosh and Whitewater tie. Pick 'em winner: Just Bill.

stoutopia

I am new on this site but have ties to stout hoops.  Can't help but KNOW that stout has already underachieved this year with losses at home to RF and inconsistent play on the road.  Today with Plat. is big and a must win.  Interior muscle needs to bring it, and do damn turnovers.  I question the fruitless full court press by coach eddie.

BC--thanks for the analysis, which seems logical. I prefer to watch games in which the refs let 'em  play.

Oshkosh 76
Superior  55

Cobb had his points (22), while Jahnke and Capelle combined for 35 (18 and 17 respectively).

Gibson today was 0-2 from the field.

Oshkosh is now 7-2 in the WIAC and 14-4 Overall.

Anyone happen to know why Kyle Johnson is no longer listed on UWO's roster??  I noticed their student assistant coach (Bill Holland) played against Superior.  Anyone????
