I got to see two games Saturday, LC-EC and D2 Winona State hosting MSU-Moorehead. The visitors are coached by former UWL head coach Stu Engen, who led the Eagles to a rare winning season 4 years ago. I hate to say it, but the talent level was plainly higher at the latter game, at least as far as Winona State is concerned. They are tough. We thought the general level of athleticism was impressive. Has anyone else seen NSIC teams this year? What impression did they make? I generally defend the WIAC, but  don't think any of our teams could handle WSU.

quincy henderson from winona state could have had some minutes at division 1 creighton this year.  heck of a player and a division 1 player playing at a division 2 level

Titan2000,
Remember a long time ago (When Osh was losing) I told you it would be Osh and someone else in the championship of the tournament.  I stick by that and that means that I am not one of the rats who was jumping off.  Appears that Miller is really getting his young wheels going.  I'd like to see Cole Kraft of Menomonie have another go at Miller sometime in the future. Wouldn't that be fun?

CVFan52

Stoutguy is their any word on where Kraft may be going and which sport(s) he will be partaking in? Thatd sure be a nice pickup for UW-Stout

stoutguy

Cole does not know.   He tends to like whichever sport he is playing at the time and right now he is really in a nice groove in basketball.   I would like him to see him go to Stout and take a crack at being a multisport player just because it would be fun to continue to watch him perform.  He is a great kid and whatever he does next year, I'll be pulling for him.  He is visiting some scholarship football schools right now.

I just got here, but as a WIAC observer allow me to add my two cents on the mid-season awards.  Although I know I lose points for tardiness.

POTY:  Jeremy Manchester, Whitewater.  When he's on, the Warhawks don't lose.
COTY:  (gulp) Ed Andrist, Stout.  Has so far managed to avoid the usual late-season slide.  This year's Blue Devil squad is much different from its predecesors, in style and temperment.
Surprise:  La Crosse.  Better faster than expected.
Disappointment:  Superior.  The only team in the league you can take a night off against and still beat.  They are bad.
All-Conference:  Manchester; Joe Werner, La Crosse; Levon Crawford, Platteville (pretty good for a guy who didn't play in high school); Jon Krull, Stevens Point; Leonard Cobb, Superior (think Steve Carlton on the '72 Phillies).

Mr. Downtown

New Top 25's everyone

Stout 19th
Oshkosh 21st

Lawrence is 3rd, that will help Oshkosh's SOSI.

I suspect the health inspector might be hanging around Kolf looking for those supposed rats, though.

See you Wednesday at the Kolf Center.  Come early, there are only 6,000 seats!!

Figured I'd start some discussion... who's the next WIAC team to potentially crack the top 25?  If La Crosse gets WW on Wednesday, is it possible they get a look?  With only three losses, they can't be far off.

How about the winner of Whitewater/La Crosse getting that coveted Top 25 spot?  We could call the game "The Roll for the Poll."
Frankly, how Whitewater fell out of the poll in the first place is puzzling.  They are without a doubt one of the best 25 teams in the country, no matter what their record is.

When you are ranked 23rd or whatever and then you lose your only game of the week at home to a previously unranked opponent, that's how you fall out of the poll.

You know what's puzzling?  The fact that La Crosse didn't get one single vote for the Top 25.  That means none of the 25 people who vote even thought La Crosse was worthy of the 25th spot in the poll.  ???

T2k,

Lawrence's record won't have anything to do with UWO's SOSI, which isn't SOSI anymore, it's QOWI (quality of wins index).  This is based on their opponents' winning percentage, and where the game was played.  Because UWO lost at Lawrence, to a team that had above .667 winning percentage, UWO gets 7 points for the QOWI (the highest point value they can get).

Check here for more info on the QOWI.

Well, yes and no.  If Lawrence somehow tanks the rest of the year and doesn't stay above the .667 winning percentage, Oshkosh will get less QOWI points for their road loss.  So, Lawrence's record does have to do with Oshkosh's QOWI!  ;D

On the other hand, Lawrence being 3rd in the d3hoops poll has nothing to do with Oshkosh's QOWI!

Polls don't mean much.  LU has beat the Titans, this year ranked #2-- 3 straight years--which I think is enough to get alumni like me pretty riled up and frankly, at the same time, very interested in LU and what Tharp is doing there with very little in resources.  That is why I pick on TVD a little--he's got the goods, he ought to deliver.  Looks like he's got them back on the tracks.

I would love to see them meet again in the tourney and if Vegas took odds, I would bet on the Titans the same way I did the last three times they played LU.    It's nice to have 2 excellent teams within 30 minutes and in 2 different conferences.   Makes the winter bearable.  8)
