Not a big deal, but Whitewater actually has only two NCAA III national titles. In 1984 and 1989.

The Warhawks have been to the D3 Final Four three times, however. They finished fourth in the nation in 1983. Perhaps that's what you had in mind, OS.

Actually it was.  I had just posted something earlier this week about Whitewater in regards to teams like Whitewater and Platteville being pretty good in the NCAAs while Eau Claire and Point were whooping it up in the NAIA!  The year Point was in the NAIA tourney, Whitewater was in the NCAA tourney.  So yeah, that's what I was thinking...oh well.  :P

stoutguy--I wont be at the Stout/RF game because of a trip to Madison which I disremembered (old people forget, busy people disremember).

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Take your pick...

Platteville beat Point twice this year.
Eau Claire played Whitewater to a double overtime game Saturday night.
River Falls beat Stout, at Stout.
La Crosse and Oshkosh split this season.

I think it's safe to say that there most likely WILL be an upset tonight... Last year was the first year in the seven year history of the tournament that seeds 1-4 won on the first night.  And even so, two of those games were overtime games.

3 seeds are just 2-5 in the tournament, as well.  This doesn't bode well for Stevens Point...  but the old addage that it's hard to beat a team 3 times hopefully will hold true!

In all honesty, I expect a close game again tonight... the other two games had a Pointer lead taken away by a Pioneer bucket (or ft's) in the last 15 seconds.  Let's see if Point can hold on to the lead and pull out the W!

Btw... Point's home winning streak fell to Platteville earlier this year, but they've got another one started (hehe, one game)... They also, however, have a post season 17 game winning streak, so we'll see if that continues this evening!

Greek Tragedy

Point holds off Platteville 70-65.

With Krull and Hicklin in foul trouble in the first half, Point had FIVE freshman on the floor at the same for an extended period of time.

wow lacrosse beats oshkosh for the 3rd time this year?  what a disappointment oshkosh was.  Looks like Joe Bemis stepped up after a few games with really no PT.... Huge Win and a nice surprise that they have done this well this year.

Can we say Kloebl for coach of the year?  I would never have thought but he deserves it

La Crosse beats Oshkosh in OT and Stout beats River Falls.

Just curious, was the foul at the end of LX/OSH game legit.  I mean, don't want to start anything, but sometimes there are some pretty bad calls at end of games.  Was he hacked pretty bad or a touch foul (maybe the guy kicking his leg out on the follow through and hits the defender...foul called or guy leaning in or something)...just wondering.  Tough end of game for the Titans.

Pointer freshmen really stepped up today and the coach deserves some credit for playing alot of different combos. Pete Rhortvedt was absolutely awesome shooting tonite, conference tournament record 9 made 3-pointers and 30 points. Missed free throws down the stretch allowed PL to stick closer that they should have. My son thought the game was over with 1:19 to play and an 11 point lead, but no lead (with the exception of 40 in the case of WW) seems safe. Very intense defense on the part of both teams made this a great game. Officiating was OK but at times they seemed to anticipate calls that really weren't there. On to Stout Thursday!

What's with Oshkosh???

From #2 in the country at the start to one and done in the WIAC tourney??

In response to the person who said.."What's up with Oshkosh?" Where to begin.

Saw the LX-Osh game and Osh got what it deserved after a long and very ugly season of overrating, terrible semblance to an offense and just simply terrible coaching. Sure everyone had Osh on paper as the team to beat but people forgot that the game is a team concept and played on the floor. Individual talent? Sure Janke, Capelle and Gibson have (had) some potential coming in to the season but all played worse than last year. Regardless, the coach (TVD) needs to be booted. They have no offensive scheme. Gibson plays with no emotion. One could drop a bomb next to him and he wouldn't care. Werner for LX on the other hand, plays with high energy and emotion and eventually hung in there long enough to kick Gibson out of the paint. Gibson could be a force in theory but he would need a huge oof season and summer league along with a weight program to be any real threat to the opposition next year. It is sheer agony watching Gibson constantly receive the ball 15 plus feet from the basket. That is not his fault though. That is a fundemental coaching problem as TVD does not understand the game and how the biggest man in the WIAC could be utilized. Simple game plan: Post Gibson down low EVERY time. Teams will double automatically and then pass to a cutter coming down the lane. How many times does Osh dribble the ball, pass in and then pass outside! Ugle to watch. Gibson should get 5-6 dunks a game. Geez, Werner is only pushing 6'7' and Gibson had zero dunks!! 90% of the offense set (if you could call it a set!) is give it to Janke and pray or have Capelle back it down and muscle the ball in or get fouled. Real creative. On the coach TVD.'s comments that in a game earlier this year where they got  crushed he said.."They beat us up like we have been beating people up.." Oh yeah. Who did Osh beat up this year? Haskell Indian Nation and Finlandia?

Also, ..."If we score 70 points in the last 3 games we win.." That would be nice but one team scored 80 on you!! The team is a reflection of the leadership from the bench, period. They need change big time. I see where they had 2 players quit this year..one, K.Johnson was to be the next "shooter" but forget that. I would not be surprised if more players exit by next year if TVD is still there. On the last play where Coniglaro gets fouled by Gibson past the 3 pt line and 25 ft from the basket with 1.9 seconds left in regulation? Good call. Obvious but again in the early part of the year one person commented that .."although Osh looks great, they will find a way to screw things up.." How right was that genius? Very.
