BW,
Speaking of having fun at someone else's expense, if we are ahead at the end, keep the damn clock running would ya?

I remember my days in the WIAC.  We always hoped for an overnight event at Stout.  That's where the fashion merchandising majors were.

Always liked fashion merchandising.  Especially the Stout lingerie design majors.

Good luck to Stout, I need to go take a shower.

With your eagle eye, I mean who else notices the clock isn't running in the instant it takes me turn it on and off ;) , I probably couldn't get away with it under any other circumstance.

Seriously, good luck, let's have a great game and when it's over hope both teams move on.  Both will deserve to.

3 years ago (and before) there was a "WIAC/LMC Challenge" over Thanksgiving with Point and Oshkosh playing Marian and Edgewood on Saturday and swapping teams for the Sunday match-up.  I think the series was played for 4 years, with each school hosting a year.  This seemed like a decent idea for filling out the schedule... though Oshkosh and Point both swept the games in each yeah, if my memory serves me correctly.

It seems like this would work for MWC and WIAC teams as well.

On the note between the competitiveness between the MWC and the WIAC...  In one of those articles posted earlier in the week, it said that Braier really vaulted Lawrence into National prominence.  Before LU, there hadn't been much recent success in the MWC.  I hope that Braier's competitiveness and attitudes rubbed of on his teammates and their success can continue.  If it does, then the competitiveness between the WIAC and MWC will likely continue.  But if it did not then it very well may slip back to the way it was BCB...  Before Chris Braier.

Now, there you go again Titan2000.  You start talking lingerie and your karma is going to go
all crazy again.

BW, I can't wait to see that game and I too, hope both move on.  You do know that Jack Bennett is doing the Fox TV thing which will become delayed broadcast don't you?

tnanks for the info guys. I'm pretty sure when I read about their team they had him listed at guard on the roster on their website, but maybe it was a misprint or i just remembered wrong. Good luck to Stout and whitewater tomorrow

Yes, I saw where you mentioned it earlier.   I hope it's a game I won't mind watching twice. ;D

On to more important topics:

I am optimistic that the powers that be in Appleton and at LU will figure out a way to keep Mr. Tharp here a long, long time.  If you get him in the WIAC, he will be a winner.

I'm not sure there is any place for Tharp at this time.  Off the top of my head, the only head coaching job "available" is in Superior and I'm sure he doesn't want to go there.  I think they have an interim coach up there.  There were rumblings about Gibbons at EC with players quitting and all that, but I remember reading something recently on this board that Gibbons has the job until he basically quits/dies.  ;)  Point, La Crosse and Platteville all have new/fairly new coaches; Whitewater, River Falls, Oshkosh and Stout all have "old"  ;) mainstays who probably aren't going anywhere soon.

I sometimes think, having been there, that WIAC fans and coaches feel they have some upper hand on teams from places like the MWC.  Recent events appear to suggest that they are a lot closer than was thought.

It would be a good thing to get a more formal tourney going, maybe a format like the ACC/Big 10 challenge.  I suspect the WIAC schools would be against that as it would create in region loss potential and it might be above them.   I would love to see it as I have enjoyed the LU/Oshkosh, LU/Platteville and Oshkosh/Carroll games this year and past and think it would be great.

What do you think ?

Give the WIAC a little more credit, T2K.  Although there isn't an official WIAC/MWC challenge, there are a fair number of WIAC vs. MWC games.  The last three years, as we all know, Oshkosh has played Larry U.  Oshkosh also played Carroll and St. Norb's, all on the road.  Point has played Ripon the last few years, La Crosse played Ripon this year (part of an informal "quad" of Point/La Crosse, Lakeland and Ripon), and Whitewater basically plays Carroll every year.  We've also played Carroll along with Lawrence in the past.  That's basically all the Wisconsin based MWC teams.  I don't see anyone traveling too far south to play the Lake Forests, Beloits and Grinnells of the MWC.

Most of the sane WIAC posters have come to respect the MWC, I don't think, in general, we have big heads and think we can just beat up on anyone...well, ok, we would like to think we can, but it's not out of arrogance, IMO.

Re:  Stout MVP

Nonemacher isn't going to get it?  He's one of the most improved players in the league.  I did also hear the Point announcers say what a big loss Farmer is going to be though! :-\

OS,

If you make the road trip to Whitewater tomorrow, just watch how Farmer plays, and elevates.

Best jump shot in the conference in my opinion.

Let's face it.............on any given night, basketball knows no levels.  Especially when it comes to Division III conferences.  Winning on the road is really tough in almost any venue.  Props always go to the WIAC because top to bottom it's still the best league around.  But..........Carroll and the job Schultz has done, LU and Tharp and some others (Lakeland beat Point this year and so did Edgewood) have really helped to close the gap in WI Div. III hoops.  No wonder St. Norbert is in the hunt for a new coach.................I know they want to bring somebody in who can eventually compete on he same level as Carroll and LU with the WIAC.

I have to echo BDB's comment re: Terry Farmer.  It's utterly amazing watching him elevate on his shots...

...and he's a very unselfish, level headed guy as well!

Got back from Whitewater a few hours ago.

Great game.  La Crosse hung tough in the first half while Werner collected splinters due to two fouls.  He played the second half as well as I've ever seen.  As noted elsewhere, 20 points.  He also came close to fouling out two Warhawks.

Congratulations to Whitewater.  I hope both they and Stout get bids.

I'm not saying Farmer is a piece of wood or anything!  Just thought maybe Nonemacher would get it since he seems to be getting a little more "press."  That's all.

An article in the Appleton paper this week said when Chris Braier turned down Stevens Point to go to Lawrence, Jack Bennett told him Lawrence is a second-tier school when it comes to basketball, and Braier has used that as motivation ever since.  If it was second-tier then, it certainly isn't anymore.

Lawrence will host the round of 16 and 8 (they will get there).  A few years ago Oshkosh and Illinois Wesleyan had to travel to Virginia to play in a pillbox at Randolph-Macon.  They earned the right to host by being the #1 team in the country, and the fourth team in the group was nearby Hampden-Sydney.  They could have played it at Kolf where they once drew about 5,000 both nights for the women's final four, or at Illinois Wesleyan, who reputedly has the best facility in DIII.  That same year Oshkosh had to play at Hope, and the game was played at a civic arena, not Hope's home facility.  If I remember right, they were allowed to do that because their home floor was substandard, and they play a game or two every year at that arena, so it was considered a home facility.
