thanks diehardfan, :-* i needed a good boost today, nah nah bw ;D
sure have missed your posting ;) your pic looks great as always 8)

I know, sorry bout that... now that I live in SoCal, it's even tougher to make it to WIAC games than it was when I lived in Virgina last year. And if you don't go to games, what are you supposed to post about? On the plus side the weather here is great!  8) Even so, I would totally trade to be able to live out there for a few weeks and go to the Whitewater or Hope regionals.  :'(

Tickets for Saturday's game will be available immediately following the 8:00 p.m. game on Friday night and the ticket windows will reopen on Saturday at 3:00.

Badgerwarhawk,

On the UWW website it indicates tix can be bought on Saturday at 5:30 in the Kachel gym area. Is the Williams Center ticket office that is selling tix at 3:00 in a different location, and if so, where? Thanks.

No BG,  Kachel gym is located within Williams Center.  The ticket counter is in the upstairs lobby area.  If you enter from the rear of the building use the ramp on the right and it'll be inside around the corner to your left.

If you enter from the front of the building you need to go down the hallway to the downstairs lobby and then upstairs.  It'll be straight in front of you slightly to the right.

Thanks. So, if I am reading you correctly, it sounds like there is only one place to buy the tix-at the ticket counter just outside of the gym (I was under the impression that there might have been a different office selling the tix within the Williams Center) and they will be on sale at 3 o'clock?

It is interesting that for the WIAC post-season tournament, that is "for the purpose of determining the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Tournament"; team's overall records are not used to seed the teams.  In fact, they will flip a coin to break ties rather than use any criteria based on non-conference results. Shouldn't they be trying to determine the best overall team to represent the conference in the national tournament?

I'm not giving up until I persuade the NCAA to let Oshkosh into the tournament.  I was going to start by getting Stevens Point in and then work my way down to Oshkosh, but how about this – Illinois Wesleyan going from preseason #1 to a 9-5 conference record is worse than Oshkosh going from preseason #2 to conference T4.  C'mon NCAA, you only have a few hours to change your mind about those bids.   ;)

BBGUY

 Don't think UW-Oshkosh deserved  a bid - no way. RU kidding?? :-\

Even if they did, they would have not done well in the opening round.

Barber Greene,

NCAA Division III men's basketball playoff tickets can also be purchased by phone.  You can purchase with a valid credit card by calling the UW-Whitewater ticket office at (262) 472-2222. The ticket office is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Your tickets will then be available at the will call window the night of the game at the Williams Center ticket location adjacent to Kachel Gymnasium in Williams Center.

Wish we could buy tickets that way. I'll be in line at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse tomorrow morning at 6am - out in the  freezing rain and snow - waiting till the ticket office opens at 10.  Man I love this game!!!

Good job, Old School.  Sometimes it takes an outsider to stem the tide on something that could become very serious.  Any poetry in the hands of someone who is not a trained professional can be a dangerous thing.

Mab, it wouldn't make much sense from a conference standpoint to include non-conference games in determining seeds for the WIAC tournament.  The system they have for breaking ties I believe is a good one:

Teams will be seeded 1 through 8 based on the final regular season conference standings. If necessary, the
following tie-breaker criteria will be applied to determine entry into the tournament or to seed teams with identical
records:
1. Head-to-head competition between tied teams.
2. Cumulative Won/Loss record vs. teams placed higher in the conference standings.
3. Record vs. teams in conference standings in descending order (i.e., #1 seed, #2 seed).
4. Team with the best road record in conference games.
5. Coin toss conducted by the WIAC commissioner.
[Note: If two teams remain tied after a third or other teams are eliminated, the tiebreaker reverts to criteria No. 1. For example, if four teams are tied with 4-2, 3-3, 3-3, 2-4 head -to-head records, the 4-2 receives highest seed and
the 2-4 team the lowest seed in the grouping. Since two teams remain tied at 3-3, we revert back to criteria #1 (head-to-head) between those two teams and then (if necessary) utilize the remaining criteria in order.]

The coin flip is option #5, and it's never come to that in the 8 years of the tournament.  Even if it DID come to a coin flip, I think it's a fine way of determining seeds...  cracking into the non-conference schedule has no place when determining anything within the conference itself.

It simply isn't going to happen.  Look at Oshkosh's "resume."  Their in-region was 13-9.  They didn't even win 60% of their games!  Their QOWI was 84th in the country, at 9.136.  They were being compared against the other teams from across the country... No team whose QOWI was less than 44th in the country (9.692) was selected for a Pool C bid, and only Utica, Illinois Wesleyan, Randolph Macon, and La Crosse had 6 or more in-region losses (LaX had 7).

You have a better argument with UWSP.  They were 15-9 in-region (at least it's a .625 winning percentage!) with the 70th highest QOWI in the country at 9.292 .  Point has a better record against teams in the tournament (5-3) but that isn't one of the primary criterion.

All in all, both Point and Oshkosh had a shot at the NCAA's.  It was called the conference tournament.  Point couldn't get past Platteville (until the Tourney) and it kept them from a piece of the regular season conference title.  They also showed their youth and inexperience against non-conference opponents... any team that loses 4 out of conference won't be getting a bid, in all likely-hood.

If Oshkosh's season was just the middle third, then they might have recieved a bid.  They didn't start too strongly (losing 3 of their first 6), and their season's ending was even worse (losing 5 of their last 7).  Now, again, these aren't criteria for getting a bid... but I feel they're kind of a "state of the union" on what was going on in Oshkosh.

My final point is this:  While the D3hoops.com poll is a subjective poll, taking into account the percieved strength of opponents, relative outcomes (a triple OT loss against a percieved top team could "count" more for the Top 25 voters than say a 35 point loss to a percieved mediocre team), the NCAA selection is a much more objective selection.  There is basically a formula of sorts, based on criteria.  Here it is:

Primary Criteria
Win-loss percentage against regional opponents
Quality-of-Wins-Index (only contests versus regional competition)
In-region head-to-head competition.
In-region results vs. common regional opponents.
In-region results vs. regionally ranked teams

Secondary Criteria
• Out-of-region head-to-head competition.
• Overall Division III won-loss percentage.
• Results versus common non-Division III opponents.
• Results versus Division III teams ranked in other regions.
• Overall win-loss percentage.
• Results versus common out-of-region opponents.
• Overall Division III Quality of Wins.

Based on these criteria, Stout, Whitewater, and La Crosse were selected.  The fact that the WIAC got even 3 teams in is something for the conference to celebrate, in and of itself.  Plenty of worthy teams have been left home from the dance in previous years.

I don't know...    throw a brown robe on Stoutguy & take the beer out of his hand...

He could be mistaken for a Monk!

Don't know what you and Stoutguy are going on about regarding monks not drinking beer, Rico. Monks and beer go together like peanut butter and jelly. Haven't you ever heard of Belgian Trappist ales? And who do you think first developed brewing science back in the Middle Ages? Hint: It wasn't the Knights Who Say 'Ni'.

Monks invented several different styles of beer besides the Trappist ale, including lager and doppelbock. Half a dozen breweries in Bavaria are still owned by monastic orders. And three of the largest breweries in Munich -- Augustiner, Paulaner, and Franziskaner, which translate into English as "Augustinian", "Paulist", and "Franciscan" -- were founded by, and named for, monastic orders. Heck, just look at the name of the city. It's no coincidence that the beer capital of the world takes its name (Eng. "Munich" = Ger. "Muenchen") from the Old High German word for "monks".

They may take vows of silence and celibacy, but nobody ever kept them from tipping back a few.
