The two 7 footers are twins, and yes they are solid, tough players.

Interesting story though. They never played high school basketball. They have really developed into good players.
As I mentioned, Jake Nonemacher was all conference this year.

I am pretty sure they are older than most college players.

BDB,

Shouldn't you be in Augustana yet?  Or are you on remote?   ;D  Nice little "quote" you have down at the bottom of your posts!

No offense to Whitewater fans, but Quandt sold out in like an hour last year...and there are still tickets available for tonight's games...

And, I thought IWU travels well...how come they haven't snatched up all the tickets???  ;)

Right there is the key to the game. CAR hasn't seen a guy over 6'8'' all season. The MIAC just doesn't have that size.

Neither does Stevens Point, but that didn't stop them from taking two of three from Stout.  ;D

Yeah, And those 2 wins were buzzer beaters.  :P

Plus, Stout did what no other team in the country could do for a few years. End the Stevens Point season with a loss.  ;)

OS,

The radio guys are all over the place. Two games on tonight at the same time.

BDB has to listen to one AM signal and another FM signal at the same time.  ???

Considering that I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time, this could be a challenge.  :D

BuckyC

how did the WIAC teams do tonight??? It's 9:17pm so the games should be over with by now right?

The Champ

LaCrosse lost. :(

Stout Men and Women both won. ;D 8)

WW is leading, last I heard. :)

WW wins 76-68.

Great effort by Depauw.  WW will need to play much, much better if they hope to have a chance against Ill Wesleyan.

stormy

kudo's to depauw
kudo's to whitewater band
kudo's to the crowd

Kachel gym was packed! depauw fought all the way and was on the verge on taking control of the game with fast break threes, came from about 15 down to down three but could not get over the hump as ww hit a three and made there freethrows down the stretch. i did not feel good until the 22 sec mark.

os, great to finally meet you!, hope u enjoyed the game looking foward to next and maybe some chat.

tomorrow night ww vs il at 7  GO HAWKS ;D ;D

Greek Tragedy

You've heard that Whitewater is athletic...well, I'll tell you something...Ill. Wes. is probably the most athletic team I've ever seen...WOW.

But, as my friend Swampgoon always says, "They don't know where they are going, but they're getting there pretty damn quick..."

Ill. Wes. seemed to run a little too fast at times.  Once in awhile they need to slow down a bit.  Carroll never gave up.  They were down but always kept it close until the end.

Whitewater will need to play A LOT better to challenge Ill. Wes. tomorrow.

Congrats to Stout and the Stout women.

Sounds like Calvin was way too much for La Crosse.  Congrats to La Crosse for getting into the tourney though...and at least they didn't lose by 41 or whatever, like Wis. Lutheran did to Hope!

Nice to meet Titan Q, voice and stormy...possibly more tomorrow.

Just got home from Whitewater myself.  If Whitewater plays tomorrow like they did tonight, then their season will come to an end.  Plain and simple.

Here's the box score.

Whitewater had a ballanced attack, as usual, with Mlachnic, Williams, Toellner, and Perry all scoring in double digits.  I agree with Old School (thanks again Tom for getting the ticket!) that Illinois Wesleyan is very athletic.  Whitewater needs to play with a sense of urgency.  WW seemed to toy with DePauw in the first half, and you could feel some tension in the gym... everyone was waiting for Whitewater to just blow it open, and then they did.  Rob Perry came off the bench and provided a defensive spark and some offensive intensity... right about that same time, I remarked (to whoever was in earshot) that Whitewater was standing around on defense.  They had no sense of urgency with their screens, or their cuts... they'd missed some shots early on, and the looked like the Whitewater teams I'd seen in the past, who relied very heavily on 1 on 1 moves to score... and DePauw seemed to have a pretty good defensive scheme.  So Perry came in, got some rebounds, and made a bucket with the foul, and Whitewater's lead grew to 15 points.  It was cut to 11 at the break, but I felt that Whitewater would chip away, chip away, continue to grind, pound the ball inside, hit their open shots, and end up running away with the game by about 25.

When Whitewater came out in the second half, they looked like they expected that to happen as well.  They came out with the same general lack of urgency in their play... but they were ok.  After trading some buckets, they led by 12 with 16 minutes to play.  Over the next 5 minutes, DePauw hit their next 7 shots and cut the lead from 12 to 5.  They missed a few, and the lead jumped back to 8, but DePauw went on a run and cut it to 3.  It bounced around and the feel that I got from the gym was that everyone was just waiting for the Warhawks to break it open, to take control.

It wasn't until 37 minutes into the game that the gym really got rocking and Whitewater snapped out of their funk and really played with some intensity.  After a couple of Rob Perry free-throws, Whitewater led by 6, and DePauw called a timeout.  On the ensuing possession, Manchester (who, though he didn't have a great night offensively, really stepped up and contributed on the defensive end) blocked a shot out of bounds.  Off the in-bound, a DePauw player, Austin Brown (who I honestly thought had a better game than the stat sheet showed... he ended up with just 4 points) rejected a ball screen, spun baseline, took off and had a nice two-handed dunk.... and then proceeded to pull his legs up and hang on the rim.  The Whitewater faithful (deservedly) thought that Brown should have been given a technical... but it never came.  So, with 3 minutes to go, Whitewater led by just 4... but the dunk had gotten the Warhawk fans up, and they were angry... The feeling I got was that "Nobody comes into OUR gym and disrespects us like that!"  On the next possession, Mlachnic hit a 3, extending the lead to 7, which was huge, but I could tell that the dunk was the "inspiration" that Whitewater needed to realize that, dangit, this DePauw team wasn't going to go away, I don't care if they were only 15-12 coming into the game... they wanted this game, and Whitewater had to make the plays to seal the win.

(Perhaps) lucky for Whitewater, there wasn't much time left in the game, and the lead was secure with Mlachnic's 3 and tip-in on the next possession, and they just had to take care of the ball and knock down free-throws, which they did.

Maybe Whitewater looked past DePauw.  It's possible they looked at the record, saw the shot on SportsCenter this week, and decided that DePauw was a fluke, and they'd just roll over.  But DePauw came out with intensity.  Whitewater's depth, inside play, and intensity is what won them the game... but the win didn't come from an overflow of Warhawk effort and energy.  The DePauw Tigers were the hammer in this game and played really, really well.  They hit 42% of their 3 pointers, had some quick, talented guards, and some big men who could finish off the dish from the little guys.  If Alex Stewart knocked down a few more 3's from his favorite spot on the left wing, we might not be talking about who Whitewater's next opponent might be... we'd be talking about the "what if's" and "what happened?"  Whitewater did just enough to hold them off and lived to play another day.  I just hope that they come out ready to play and with intensity from the get-go.

I really wish I could make it to the game tomorrow night... it really should be a great one.  There will be a great match-up at point guard between Manchester and Dauksas.  Jeremy didn't shoot very well tonight, and he got a couple of "cheap" turnovers at points when Whitewater was out of sync (passing the ball one way as the teammate cuts the other), but he clearly was one of Whitewater's leaders out on the floor, especially defensively, where Whitewater actually struggled tonight, especially with getting to open shooters.

INTENSITY  INTENSITY INTENSITY

You are absolutely right P.S., Whitewater lost their INTENSITY and put themselves in position to lose the game.  We talked about this emotion after the WW-Stout game. this is a very powerful denominator in athletics. this is an element that can create upsets or prevent them

You know Keven Bradley is a nice young man;  Point probably could have used him this year.

Speaking of former UWSP Guard Keven Bradley, here is a good read from today's Appleton Post Crescent:

::) That was sooo a setup. Funny though. :D

So...am I the only Pointer fan here?  Did I ever mention Keven Bradley in any of my posts?  Why was that directed to only me?  I've never said anything about him, good or bad.  I'm glad he's happy at Lawrence.

Yes, that was sooo a setup...and no, April, it wasn't funny.   It was just real POINTless.

Apparently the Lawrence players have nothing else to do but rip on Stevens Point.  That's too bad.  Maybe they should concentrate on basketball.  It humors me that Stevens Point is the center of attention for some Lawrence players and that the past seems to still be an issue for them.  Keep it up guys and don't forget you have a basketball game to play on Saturday.  That's the second article I've read that has LU players talking about their "bad" experiences with Stevens Point or Jack Bennett.  Well, as the article said, Keven Bradley has a ring, something no Lawrence players have right now.  Will they get one this year, we'll see.

Just a reminder, to keep you worrying about the evil Stevens Point Pointers...we've beaten you 14 straight times and your last loss was a butt whipping by 34 from us in the NCAA tourney.  How do you like THEM apples?  Keep up the good work.  Geez.

Old School:

I am sorry the Vikings are such demons.  I thought you might want to see how mean and selfish they are--just see the attached article !!
