laxeagles...

Where you been?  You've been pretty quiet since the tourney field was announced...

Not sure if La Crosse will be a favorite...but, they'll be pretty good as long as Werner is there!

old school,

I have had some family things to deal with (my aunt just recently had a bone marrow transplant for leukemia) and I have been working about 32-40 hours a week so my time on here is limited...........I haven't been able to follow the team as closely as I have wanted to this year, which is really a disappointment having gone through 3 pathetic seasons and now seeing what this team achieved

stormy

ilw ends whitewater's season. :( they shot 59.5 from the floor, 10-18 threes had a 20 point half time lead. ww fought back to 10 with about 5 to play and had the ball, some bad passes and a big three by ilw put the game out of reach. story of the game rob perry 17 min. 0 points and whitewater misses 11 free throws. great season WW great careers Jeremy and Melvin - loved watching you and our "beloved Warhawks" play - thanks a lot  ;D

also heard stout was upended :(

I see Manchester struggled big time this weekend.

Sometimes that happens.  Manchester had a good career and I have seen him since his freshman year.  The turnovers hurt and the shooting wasn't always there, but I enjoyed watching him play and Melvin too, they will sorely be missed.

I'm not upset about the game, we lost to a very, very, very good team.  Hopefully you can all see through these words that WESLYAN WON, sure UWW had 16 turnovers, were outrebounded and certainly there was mistakes on defense, but #22 shot the lights out.  I hate Illinois.

But anyway, thank you Stout and La Crosse for representing us, the WIAC will rise again and also thank you Old School for the tickets and hopefully you are saying the same thing in your ride home...."WW man oh man did they run into a buzz saw".

DOWN WITH IWU, GO LAWRENCE

Non basketball D3 news:

Congrats to EC's Derek Sikora on winning the D3 165lb wrestling title.

Chmarx and I just got back fro Holland Mi, where we watched Calvin beat our Eagles 79-71.
Turnovers and poor first-half FT shooting were key factors in the loss, but give Calvin credit. They played fine defense with two strong post players keeping Joe Werner more or less in check. This alone wouldn't have done the trick, but the Calvin guards swarmed Joe when he got the ball down low. Marcus Conigliaro led the way with 21 points in a stellar performance. On another night, it might have gone our way. But this one belongs to Calvin, and congratulations are well deserved. You should see the DeVos Center at Hope College. With seating for 4000 plus, it is like a D-1 arena. 3250 at our game. What a great venue. Also, the fans for both Hope and Calvin are rabid. They HATE each other. All in all, a memororable ending to a great season of D-3 hoops. Thank you, Coach K and the UWL Eagles.

Greek Tragedy

I beg to differ...go IWU. Wow, what a team.  It would be safe to say that Dauksas was IN THE ZONE. The guy, or the rest of the team, could hardly miss in the first half.

A very spirited 2nd half by Whitewater to battle back from 20 down to cut it to 10 a couple of times.  But, they killed themselves by missing free throws (missing 2 of 3 with a chance to cut it to SEVEN), and not finishing opportunities when they made stops but couldn't score at the other end.  Disappointing, but the Titans are a great team, at least they were tonight...

I'm jumping on the IWU bandwagon...I don't see them losing to anyone if they play like they did tonight.  Dauksas is a stud!

Oh yeah, nice Whitewater student section...real childish by coming out with the name calling the whole game.  Oh well.  I ripped the Carroll student section last night, but Whitewater's was much worse tonight.

Congrats to IWU and Augie for the CCIW/WIAC sweep. Good luck.

Boxscore of IWU/UWW game.

Only 1700+ for a REGIONAL FINAL!  Whitewater fans should be ashamed.

I might have too, OS, but Brian refused.  Call him a wimp if you will!  :D

I concur with what Brian said about the game.  Calvin was just too good for us, and we were somewhat lucky to get into single digits at the end.  We outrebounded them substantially, but they had an excellent team defense and seem to always be able to hit a three when they needed it.

I followed the MIAA for twelve years in the sixties and seventies, but hadn't seen a game in over 25 years.  This WIAC team was VERY impressed by both Calvin and Hope.  I just heard that Hope beat Calvin last night.  I want to see the team that can beat them!

The Hope fans were extremely gracious.  Not that they liked us, particularly.  They just hate Calvin with a passion!   ;D  I don't think we have anything like this for a rivalry.  They are not only close and both excellent programs, they represent rival branches of the Dutch Church and have religious issues.

Now that all our teams bowed out by the second round, I think its time to admit to ourselves that the best basketball league in D3 is down this year and plan to kick some butt next year in the tourney.  I don't know if La Crosse will have the stuff to get back into the tourney, but I hope that our teams can go deep and restore order in D3.

For now, go Hope!

I can't call him that since he did actually GO with you...something that he wasn't too keen on before!  Maybe he's only a half wimp!  :D  Drive all the way over there and not watch the most hated rivalry in D3 hoops?  Come on!  I assume you stayed for the WLC/Hope scrimmage? lol.

I nominate Ill. Wes.  Wow, what a team they have!

The Champ

First of all, let me state it was disappointing to learn that both Stout and Whitewater lost last night.  Both are very good teams and I wanted both to make it to the Sweet 16.

The reason I wasn't at the Stout game was I was at Simpson for the women's game.

If you think 1700 for a REGIONAL FINAL is bad, try 650... ???

And Simpson gave out (or at least they offered to give out) 500 tickets free to the Simpson students... ::)

Considering that Stout had about a third of the fans in the field house, I just kept thinking that this deal should have been at Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie.

Even with both the men's and the women's teams in the D3 tourney, we'd have had at least another 1,000 fans in the stands - even without anyone from Simpson showing up...

stoutguy-  It was great to meet you and spend some time chatting with you at Augustana yesterday.  Congrats to your team and good luck this evening.  Did anybody listen to the UW Stout/Carleton game on the web(d3hoops.com)?  What a great game,  Stout led by as many as 8 in the second half, with Carleton having 1 last possession to try and tie/win the game.
Congrats to both teams, and an exciting way to open up the big dance.

The pleasure was all mine.  We had a great time in the land of the John Deere.  I think Stout got beat by a team that would have beaten many teams this night.  Great shooting from the perimeter, great free throw shooting, intense defense, and Rick Harrigan, who was MVP in his conference, would have been MVP in our conference as well.  We had no answer for him.  Stout had a great season and we will miss our seniors, but we will contend next year and I can't wait.  Now it is time to get back on that women's bandwagon and bring home a title.

Never thought of it that way.......but we don't riot, and manage to live somewhat peacefully amongst ourselves.

In chmarx defense of not seeing the Hope/Calvin game......the Wisconsin schools weren't offered tickets.

At least the fans were loud and voistrous for once, only during the big games do they get that way.  I admit that they were a little childish by calling one player a Virgin and Rogaine among others, but what to do when your team is down by 20 and Daukas or whatever his name is is ripping your team apart.

But in the end, I will miss this season.  Melvin and Manchester never could find their stride in the tournament, like Miller said in the post-game report, his team never face what you would call an "upper-eshalon" team (forgive my spelling, a UWW education you know).  But hey, if IWU does play like they did tonight, I have never seen a more complete team (that Freeman kid ripped apart Carrol), and Daukas is a player and those two alone can take over a game.

Good luck IWU, but go Lawrence!

uww4ever

by the way, 1725 is the student section count only.... the place was packed last night to the brim, every seat was taken w/ exception of a few spots in the reserved section (and you could have seen old school Mark Linde made it to the game circa 1984 :))

A nice mustache on the old all american.  Could have used him to replace Mr. Perry or Mr. Freund (Perry had a worse game w/ a lot of turnovers).
