It is unfortunate Rick Bowen's last game as UWRF head coach at UWO ended with him getting two technicals and getting kicked out of the game.  I will instead remember how he made the long walk to the door at Kolf, and stood there waiting for the game to end.  At that point he made the long walk back to the court to make sure he shook the hand and congratulate every UWO coach and player.  He didn't even look in the direction of the referees even though he had every right to be upset after they robbed his team of a win with what appeared to be a very bad, game deciding foul call.  There aren't too many coaches around who wouldn't have been throwing a tantrum in the locker room.  He is top class all the way.

??? To the Old School individual who said Oshkosh is pO'd about having such a terrible year...Anger may be a reaction but it will take  much more than that for them to win the WIAC. Anyone ever wobder why nobody ever comes to see the games in Kolf? No big game wins- sure their winning percentage over the years might look impressive but look who the heck they schedule!!!!!! They refuse to even play Ripon and they are less than 20 miles away.

No kidding?  ;D  I think most posters in here will agree that Oshkosh has the talent to compete for a league championship.  Obviously this year it didn't happen for one reason or another.  I think next year they'll have a chip on their shoulder to prove to themselves that this year was a fluke and they can prove their critics wrong and show they can play as a team and make a run for the conference championship.

Wow, a little harsh, aren't you?  If I'm not mistaken, they went on a very nice run where they won 12 of 13 games and many posters felt they finally put it together.  In this run were big home wins against La Crosse, whom they were tied with in the loss column with two, and a huge game vs. Stevens Point, where they basically blew them out and avenged the early season loss at Quandt.  In between those games, they go to Whitewater and win there.  Those are two big home wins there, IMO.

We know about the WIAC, a league that has produced eight national champions, including the last two by UW-Stevens Point. Together, the CCIW and WIAC have won 14, or 45 percent, of the NCAA titles contested since the tournament began in 1975.

That's what jumped out at me in that Appleton Post Cresent Article.  Wow.

The WIAC and CCIW also have the two best tourney winning percentages among D3 leagues; the WIAC is 84-30, .737, and the CCIW is 99-51, .660. The two leagues have also made the most Final Four appearances among D3 leagues; the CCIW has 13 and the WIAC is tied with the NJAC and OAC with 11.

RB

Bob Burrows of the River Falls Journal just left my office and suggested I read the board today.   I do not read or visit the board so this will be my first post.....and also my last....assuming I've navigated the registration process, etc. correctly.

I took Bob's advice.  I am humbled by some of the nice things said.  I even got a personal call from "super fan" at UWO. After listening to him for 20 years, that was a really nice.  Now if somebody will just teach him how to clap to the rhythm of the music my life will  be complete.

I have never considered myself anything but a basketball coach that loved basketball and basketball people.  I am now going to try to "get a life" outside of the game and try to do the AD's job well.

I do not know who any of you are but I just want to say thank you for the nice things said.   This is the greatest league with the greatest coaches and the greatest fans and  people. Present company included.  Thanks again. It's been a fantastic ride.  In the spirit of the season..."one shining moment" to all of you.

Go Falcons!

Thank you Rick Bowen for your kind words as well!!!!!

To give you an idea of who I am, I played alongside Rich Melzer for a year at RF.  I was taller then him, bigger then him, maybe stronger then him, but in his first year at RF he struggled and got in trouble and didn't graduate on time.  I would like to extend my thanks to you, because he really developed during his years at UWRF and graduated with a degree and really was a great player, maybe one of your best and you were apart of that.  Rich was really a good guy, and I am grateful that he could kick my butt at b-ball because it made me work harder at other things.

Hopefully, we will see another RF team surprise the critics and win the WIAC.  Don't wanna wait 50 years for that to happen, but RF is my second favorite team behind UWW.

LU all the way!

Wow! THE ROLL MODEL for WIAC coaches, and people in general.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

This might be the funniest quote of the year.  If Coach Bowen gets tired of the AD thing he could always try stand-up comedy.

Yah, I laughed when I read that earlier today, Funny Stuff!!! :D

Hey BB guy,

You better make sure you get your facts straight about saying that the Titans are avoiding Ripon College.  I know first hand that the Titans have tried to get games with Ripon. However, Gillespie wants know part of it.  It's unfortunate, it would be a great rivalry.

uww4ever

Too bad about LU.  Matt Arnold had a great game (15 points), didn't see the box score but #22 who drained 6 threes against us didn't show up in the summary at DIII sports dot com.

Freeman paced the Titans w/ 21 points, but I'm surprised because it looks like the gym in LU was pretty packed to capacity, what is the capacity there?  Also looked like they had bleachers on each side.

I'm not on the IWU bandwagon yet, go PUGET :)

Winneconne_Legend

Anyone who knows RB knows that he is one of the funniest guys around. I was lucky enough to spend about 4 years as a manager with Coach Bowen and he is one of the best mentors one could ever have..

Just from his post here, I have to say he is a class act.

He will be missed on the bench.

Congrats Winneconne Legend on getting down state this year!

Bowen is definitely a class act. He has had tremendous success turning not highly recruited athletes into great WIAC/WSUC players. He will continue to make UWRF athletics a better situation than it is now both as programs and as a department. Best wishes Coach!
