Ran into Gardow at a golf outing...    said he's got a few possibilities, but nothing solid at this point.

Eddie, get him back at Stout!

It will never happen.  That would make too much sense for Eddie.  But, if Gardow did come back, I know it would save Ed some headaches that Stout IS headed for come October!!

What headaches do you foresee for the Stout program?

I know there's a baseball thread now... but...  UWSP has swept through the losers bracket in both the conference tourney and the NCAA Regional to grab a spot in the World Series in Appleton.  Point won NINE elimination games in the past week!  That's amazing!

HEY!  NEWS from Stevens Point.

Scott Hoelzel, a 6-5 forward from Kaukauna High School, and Matt Moses, a 6-2 guard from Fond du Lac Springs High School, both plan to take their talents to UW-Stevens Point..

Sounds like Hoelzel is a Jason Kalsow-type (and I use that term loosely) player.  All-around player, scoring (13.7), rebounding (7.4)and assists (3.3).  No stats on Moses though.

You better.  :P

Gotta love the fact that you called it a "term" though... makes it sound like he's the gold standard.... which he is.

Reportedly, UWSP's interest in Moses spiked after they lost out on the Bryce Welch sweepstakes to UWO.  Both seem to have similar abilities on the basketball court.

Back in the 1984 NBA draft, the Portland Trailblazers selceted center Sam Bowie with the #2 pick, instead of selecting shooting guard...ummm. Michael Jordan.  In hindsight, of course, everyone rips the Blazers for this pick as Bowie was a total piece of wood and Jordan became a pretty decent player.  Of course, the argument is that Portland didn't need Jordan since they had a very good and proven shooting guard for many years to come in Clyde Drexler.

The reason I bring this up is because of the news the Pointers recruited yet another guard in Matt Moses.  This has nothing to do with Matt Moses, as I don't know him, and I'm sure his skills are of high quality.  But, getting another guard shouldn't be a priority.  Maybe it's not and I guess we can never have enough guards!  Granted, I know that the NBA draft and college recruiting are totally different since we only get players for a maximum of five years!  Is Moses going to "grey shirt"?  Maybe.  No clue.  But with a roster that already includes sophomore Al-Amin and juniors Hicklin and Lee already in the rotation...not to mention little used Krause, Kuchta and Doyle, I would be much happier seeing news that Point recruited a guy that's 6'8" or over! ;D  I don't know, maybe John Nonemacher will transfer to Point!  (wow, did I just say that?) ;) Believe me, I like Jerome Wotachek, but he's our only big man we have.

I have no doubts that Semling knows what he's doing and I'm sure he's looking into the future of the program (maybe he'll be a freshman in two years when Hicklin and Lee are gone), but I'd love to see a big guy come in and give us a post presence that Point didn't have for the majority of the season.

Oh yeah, convince Brad Kalsow to come back and play!

Not that I am the biggest Point fan in the world....but, Matt Moses is a very good ballplayer, Parkside showed interest for a while, but his outside shot is not consistant enought. Moses is a big guard with a strong frame. He can get to the rim and can defend a guard or a forward. His outside shot is good if not consistant, this is a very different player than Bryce Welch...a comparable WIAC guy might be LeVon Crawford (althought not quite as athletic, but a bit stronger). Moses will rebound well from the guard spot, and I would expect him to see some minutes early in his career...a good grab for the Pointers

Old School,

the answer to the question when does pre-season start?  NOT SOON ENOUGH!!!

As for Mr. Moses.  All I will say is if he can be half the player the Pointers last recruit out of Springs was, we'll have a hell of a player.  (I won't hold him to that)

Sources tell me the Pointers got Pete Zuikers son to play here and also a 7-2 guy who will be a project.  Not sure on that but it's what I've heard.

I'm president of the "MWC deserves respect" club... that's entirely different. :D Besides, I'm president of the Chris Martin fan club, plus most of the Wheaton players (esp Jon Nielson) so I mean, I think you can be president of more than one thing.

For the Pointer fans out here who may not have seen it in Thursday's Stevens Point Journal, Scott Williams had a nice article about Coach Bennett and Coach Shirley Egner giving the UWSP baseball team pep/motivational talks before it took off for the College World Series today in Appleton.

Pointers lost the first game of the double elimination tourney this afternoon, though...

You can still check out the piece online...

WL,

Thanks for the info on Moses.  Like I said, my post had nothing to do with him, just [enter name], who is a GUARD!  That's all.

Of course not!  I wouldn't want the wrath of Sager on me!  I meant pre-season, which means non-conference season is just around the corner!  ;D  Like all that stuff you do before the non-conference season...practice, intersquad games, scrimmages vs. D1 opponents etc...  :P

I did mention back a couple of pages ago about a Zuiker coming to play for Point (not sure if he is related to the  former Pointer Zuiker though).  Also, Josh Iserloth's brother is gonna try out as well.

As mentioned, Point lost their first game of the CWS...right on form with the WIAC and Regional tourneys.  No worries! lol

Do I sense some cracking of the Pointer Pride?  Are they not infallible?

Their baseball team sure laid an egg in the World Series last night, with a blown bunt (twice) pop-up double play ending a great scoring opportunity.

I did not see Bennett running on the field.

OS,

The Zuicker kid would be Joe Zuickers cousin.  The father is Pete Zuicker who was the second of the Z's to play at Point.  Bill led the way.  Hate to say I'm not sure if Joe's dad played or not.

Titan,

At least Point might have some pride to lose, not that the dogs have.  Where are the Titans again this baseball season?  Perhaps fishing or doing lawnwork....
