nope...you can transfer at the d3 level and play immediately.  However, most conferences that I am familiar with will make you sit a year if you transfer within the conference.

Thanks LU nut.  Seems reasonable if not within the same conference.

Who do you think wins the next LU/UW-O game?  The Vikings have won the last 3 despite the great talent at Oshkosh.  Always interesting contrast between these teams; LU hustle D vs. UW-O inside/ouside game with Gibson and whoever the shooting guard that they use this year is.  I assume Matt Miller since the Welch kid decided that the fishing in Oshkosh wasn't as good as it was up on the Wolf.

Oshkosh should be in shape this year; last year they looked ragged vs. LU even though they went to OT I recall.   Probably a little tired from setting up and taking down coach TVD's tree stand the weekend before.  ::)

Example:  In the WIAC there is a rule that requires you to sit a year if you transfer within the conference after your sophomore year.

Mr. Downtown is right about Miller last year.  he really struggled with the ball at times.  His D will improve with Ted.  According to Darren Gourlie, his AAU coach, Matt played great defense and handled the ball extremely well against some of the best talent in the nation.  His D was lax in high scholl as he could pretty much guard anyone without too much difficulty.  His best challenge was guarding Cole Kraft from Menomonie, which were classic battles.  I believe Matt is up to the challenge and will perform well, or else his older brother will kick his butt.

Regarding the LU UWO match-up this year......who knows???  Obviously UWO has a bunch of talent and owes LU big time.  The game is at Oshkosh.......I think LU is going to have a real challenge.  Gibson gave them real trouble last year (27 points I think).  LU lost a bunch of talent, but I think they will be better than people are giving them credit for, but this game is going to be very difficult.

I assume that this game will be played in the large gym.......two years ago, LU won in the smaller gym.....can't remember why they had to play there.

If they play it at Kolf then we should invite the New Roop Order as the membership will likely be equal to the UW-O crowds.  6000 seats, 700 fans.

Maybe Oshkosh and LU could trade gyms.

We get lousy crowds at UWL too, although they were up a bit last year.

A conference rule is actually rather rare. I'm familiar with rules in the WIAC and CCIW that regulate intra-conference transfers, but not many others.

it's unreal how bad it is

I can honestly say though, that i was at the RF/LAX game i think 4 years ago where melzer dropped 54........needless to say, if my memory serves me right, i was about one of 200 to see that game

Hoops Junkie

Apathy runs deep across much of D3...

The only place that used to consistently draw really good crowds was Platteville during the Bo Ryan years.

Stout has made strides and UWRF was solid during the Melzer years but across the board they are hit and miss

Who are going to be the top newcomers???

I expect Hoezel at UWEC to have a big impact who else

I have heard Tom Pattison, aka voice, is not in good shape.

From an e-mail we received:

QuoteI am part of Tom's family and would like the Warhawks to know he's in need of vistors and friendship.  His stroke has left him with a paralyzed right arm and hand.  We are trying very hard to find new living arrangements for him.  He will need to live in Whitewater and should anyone know of any available housing for him, it would be much appreciated.  It has been an honor for him to become close to the Warhawk's football team, his unconditional pride is very real and his life has evolved around them.

This was the e-mail address. Any help should be directed in that direction, I guess.

Yeah, I've heard of this rule (having to sit out a year) with lots of D-1 conferences, and I know that if someone transfers UP in division (as defined by the NCAA... from III to II, III to I, or II to I is considered up, but we, of course, know that this would actually be moving DOWN  ;D).  Moving "down" would not require a year for the player to sit, a la Andy Jahnke, Kyle Grusczynski (or, well, myself) i.e. from I to II, II to III or I to III.

Shanagolden,

You clearly haven't been to Point... the Pointer fans have mentioned that, at times, Point hasn't had the most raucous crowd... but even last year (which could be consider a rebuilding year, or a down year), Point averaged 1378 for home games, which was good enough, yet again, for 6th in the country.  Point has been in at least the top 7 in the country since the 1999 season, always with at least 1200 fans per game, and was 4th with 1929 per game during the second Nat. Championship year.  I agree that the STUDENT support is lacking across the conference, but in cities where the community has embraced the team (such as with Point's men and women, Eau Claire's women, to some extent Stout now and Platteville's Bo Ryan teams, as you said), the gyms tend to be full more often than not.

You sure Melzer didn't drop 200 and you were one of about 54 to see that game?  ;D

On another note, I'm sorry to hear about Voice's health problems.  I hope things can be worked out for he and his family.  For the record, I have no contacts in Whitewater.  I wish I could help.
