The WARHAWKS opened the season by beating Martin Luther 85-61.   WW never trailed in the game and had built the lead to 14 points, 41-27, by the intermission.

Rob Perry paced the WARHAWK scoring with 13 points and both Jason Price and Cory Vernon added 11.  Andy Freund had a nice stat line with 8 points, 7 rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Illinois Wesleyen beat Clarke College by a very similar score.  They're an excellent team and you wouldn't have known they lost all of those great players by the way they played last night.  They got a lot of open looks outside and buried the shots. We'll really have to step up our perimiter defense or have big problems if they shoot like that tonight.  It looks like it should be a really good game.

And I was very surprised to have that D3 vagabond, Old School, tap me on the shoulder and say hello.   Thanks for coming down, OS, and good luck to your Pointer tonight.

Nice to see you too, Badger, and Titan Q.

IWU, in the 2nd half, looked pretty good and I'd imagine they looked better in the first.  I missed most of the 1st half.  IWU will go as Zach Freeman goes.  He seems to be unstoppable...at least against all those short Clarke players!

UWW looked pretty bad coming out of the gates and held a slim 28-24 lead with about 6 to go in the first half.  They turned it on and held an uncomfortable halftime lead.  UWW has a lot of work to do if they are going to beat IUW tonight.  I think Freeman will have a little harder time tonight since UWW has like 7 guys 6-6 or taller.  UWW will be able to rotate a lot of players on him.  And yes, UWW's defense looked pretty bad again.  I heard Martin Luther had about 18 TOs in the first half, but they are just bad, and it really didn't have too much to do with UWW's stellar defense.  Rob Perry is going to be a big spark plug off the bench...he scared me with his mohawk...I think that was him.  UWW is tall but needs to get tougher and their defense needs to show up.

Based on the two teams playing two horrible opponents, I'd put my money on IWU tonight, but I think the UWW players will stop drinking the kool-aid and realize they'll have to actually play to win.

Big game in Waukesha tonight, hope we get a lot of Point fans there.  Stop by and say hi to Swampgoon and I if you make it down there.

Good luck to you and the Warhawks tonight, Badger...I'll be cheering for ya.

Manchester 68, UWEC 59, final

'Golds had a 38-25 lead at half...

Matt Riley had 19, Jared Bardon had 16 to lead the Blugolds. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

Look for a feature on UWW in the latest edition of "101 Ways to Blow a Basketball Game" as they had a 21 point lead against IWU in the 2nd half and end up losing in OT.  Gio Riley 0-3 on FTs in the final minute of regulation (including a missed front end of 1-1).  One FT probably would have won it, 2 for sure.  Then in OT with 2sec left he misses another 2 FTs that would have won the game.

0-5 down the stretch from your PG...... thats tough to take!

Falcons will lose big vs. Bethel as they trail 98-72 with five minutes left.

big nights for werner and ask both having 21 points............The box score is currently only up on loras' website since the UWL site takes oh 2-5 DAYS to get up the box score after the game is played

anyways looking at the box score you can see how much they miss Homan, simply no production from the bench

Didn't make the game but heard it on the radio as Point beat Carroll 93-75. Started right out of the blocks hitting shots and playing "D" and took Carroll out of the game immediately. Forced 20 turnovers and hit 23-27 FT. Jon Krull hit for 32 in the win. Impressive start for this young team! Team depth will be a big key. On to LU for Tuesday, hope I get a seat. I hope it's not like the lines to pick up a PS 3, which started two days in advance.

Titan Q

Old School and badgerwarhawk, it was good to see you both this weekend.  Good luck to the Pointers and Warhawks this season!

That's ridiculous. First of all, if you go to the schedule, it links to the Loras box. Secondly, for road games files need to be obtained from the host school, input into the stat crew, and then posted. In fact, when I got back from a road trip last night, I found both the men's and women's scores through the UW-L site.

I know this goes without saying to the masses, but your negativity everything UW-L is incredibly annoying considering you're not half as informed as you think you are.

Koelbl, now the SID. There may be one or two sites in the WIAC where information is not updated in a timely matter ... UW-L is not one of them.

I didn't go to Dubuque, but I think that was a disappointing game for UWL.  I agree that they probably missed Homan off the bench, but they lost three of their four best big men to graduation.  They have some young size, but the freshmen will have to step up if we are to compete in the WIAC.

Oh, wait.  According to LAX Eagles size doesn't matter.  ::)

that makes sense then.........in the past the University has been quite tardy on getting box scores up, i remember a few years back not seeing box scores for 2 days........that was more of a sarcastic comment than anything but does happen from time to time

He's the university's SID and head basketball coach.  Does Koelbl also teach classes as well?  Who cleans the offices at the end of the day? ;)

No, no. I meant first Koelbl, NOW the SID, as in the list of people at UW-L that laxeagles1 wants to bag on because they don't do a good enough job for his liking.

And I still say the SID's in the league are as good, as a group, as any. When I go to school's in other leagues looking for stats, scores, etc., it's sometimes a tough search. Here you can find what you're looking for. When you consider very few of them have anything but student help and cover around 20 sports.

Anyway, enough of that talk. Less than 10 days from WIAC Wednesday.

badgerwarhawk

Come on now, Eagle is a big Koelbl supporter.  Always has been too.  ;):)
