A couple of quick points about the SP game from Friday:

Point didn't have any inside game, either on offense or defense.  Schmitting was made to look like an All-American.  He's a good player, but he isn't as good as he was made to seem on Friday.

Point's offense inside didn't exist either.  Though the box score said that Point had 16 pts in the paint, these weren't points from the post, they were drives from the wing.  This is all well and good, but what happens when there is a big guy in there defensively like Gibson or one of the Nonemachers?  The path to the hole simply won't be there.

Point wasn't exactly crisp on their perimeter passing either.  It seemed like they tried to do everything off the dribble and often got in a little too deep and then tried to pass the ball out.  Except for a few times where the ball really started zipping around and they made the extra pass, they seemed to fumble the ball a bit and that led to a few TO's.

All in all, if Point keeps scoring 90+ points, then I think they'll probably be ok... but Tuesday, they played a team in Lawrence who defended well and made it tough to score (at least in the second half).  This is the type of defense that Point will go up against in the WIAC, I just hope that Point's defense rises to the occasion to follow suit!

Whitewater drops to #8, Point up to #9, UWO debuts in the new top 25 poll at #19, Plattevile is #2 team "receiving votes", Stout and La Crosse 24 and 25 in "rec votes" respectively.

Some other teams of note:  IWU, who beat Whitewater jumps in at #24 despite a loss to still-unranked Ohio Wesleyan.  #1 Virginia Wesleyan also just lost tonight.

Mr. Downtown

Hmm...

Oshkosh's women's basketball team just recently knocked off a highly overrated top 10 team in the nation last week.

Can the men's team do the same tomorrow night?  ???

Two observations from watching the Northland/Stout game on Sunday:
1.  Jarrel Enerson-Matthews, a Frosh from Anoka, MN has one pure shooting
touch.   He was a joy to watch.  Yes, I am aware Stout was playing
     Northland.

2.  Not to start this debate again, but Jake Nonemacher will play at the next
level SOMEWHERE next year.  Write it down.  The word is POTENTIAL and
he has it.  He will get his chance.  He can do some things already that
many other 7 footers can not do.  And, yes, I am aware that they played
Northland.  Wed.'s game should be fun.  I really suspect that EC is much
     improved from last year.

Any WIAC team interested in being a part of the Susquehanna's Pepsi/Weis Market's Tip-off Tournament
for the 07-08 season

This is probably the wrong forum to ask this.

Oh Oldschool...

I think both Oshkosh and Point are top 20 teams...but I think the voters have hyped up Point a little too much. I'm sure if they paid attention to what you and pointerspecial are saying about their weakness inside, i doubt they would have put Point so high with a game coming up against Oshkosh.

We'll see though, should be an awesome game tomorrow!

Mr. D,

Insomuch as Point has a deficiency inside, it does need to be noted that each of the 5 guys that Point puts out on the floor can take the ball off the dribble and can hit the outside shot.  Point's put up 90+ points in 2/3 games, so, while the onus is on Point to stop the inside looks, it will also be on their opponents to stop the outside play by the Pointers.

Should be a really good game, I wish I could make it!!

Point of clarification.  Wheaton's women's team that you refer to was not highly overrated, they were highly shorthanded.  They had three regulars (including their best player and another starter) out with injury.  Put those players back on the floor, and Oshkosh and Point have very different games with the Thunder.

We now return to the men's basketball board.

No doubt. That's why I'm really excitied tomorrow to see what happens!

Point beat two Top 25 teams on their home courts, and both were in the NCAA tourney last year.  hardly hyping them up!  ;)  I'm nervous like usual before tip off...amazingly, never been to Kolf for a Pointer game.  I'll be there tonight with Swampgoon.  Feel free to say hi.

That I didn't know...maybe your post should say, "MAY have different games since Point did win by 27 or something like that.  :P

River Falls/Superior is webcast on ifan through the WIAC website for anyone that wants to watch.... RF 36 Superior 23

uww4ever

u gotta be kidding me.  riley again has a chance to hit a free throw to go up by one, but then he travels w/ 20 seconds left and UWW loses by tHREE at home on AUGIE day.  Not the greatest free throw performances, but nonetheless, i can hear the "overrated" chants.

Bad shot selection in the end kills UWW.  Give credit to UWL, they came back after being down by 7 points in a really, really, really boring game.  No good shooting, poor decisions and silly turnovers.  gotta find a go-to-guy in the cluch for warhawks to pull these games out, thought it could be perry but even he does a spin around jump shot that didn't go.  it's only the first games of the conference season, but not much good to say about this game.

GO HAWKS

Point wins 89-76, 15 Assists to just TWO TO's.  Point hit 20/22 FT's, including 13/14 FT's in the last two mins.

Rortvedt had 21, Hicklin with 19, Krull with 17, Beamish and El-Amin with 10 each.  Moses comes off the bench and scores 8 with 4 assists.

Oshkosh got 23 from Capelle, 13 from March, just 12 from Gibby, and 15 from Doedens.

Oshkosh shot 47.1% from the field 24/51, 6/17 from deep for 35.3% and 22/26 FT's.  Oshkosh ended with 14 TOs

Point shot 51.9% 28/54, 13/23 from downtown for 56.5% and 20/22 from the line for 90.9% as a team.  Point got 8 steals to UWO's 1.  Point got 18 pts off TO's to Oshy's 2.

Oshkosh did outrebound Point 34-20, with 11 offensive, but this was the limit to Oshkosh's size advantage.  Point dropped back in a zone in the first half that rattled Oshkosh.

Three cheers to the WIAC SIDs who seem to be making live stats a regular feature this year, rather than an occasional experiment.  We like!
