If it's any help to either side of the arguement, when listening to the game, especially during the stretch of the game after Oshkosh cut the lead to 5, I heard Krull's name quite a bit, and hardly heard Gibson's name at all.  Now, I was listening to the Point broadcast, so that may have something to do with it, but Krull got a couple of steals toward the end of the game that really sealed it.
I don't think it had anything to do with it being a Point broadcast.....  It just backs up my statement that the UWO guards stopped getting the ball to him.

Greek Tragedy

Here's my purple and gold view of the game last night.

Before I forget, anyone know why Shawn Lee wasn't suited up and on the bench?

OK, back to the game.  At first glance, it would surprise anyone to see Kerry Gibson get only 8 FG attempts.  I would've thrown it into him every possession.  But, I think Point learned their lesson against Ripon when Brian Schmitting went off for 29 on them.  IMO, Point did a great job of defending Gibson and getting help down low basically whenever he got the ball.  I think Point frustrated Gibson and his guards let him down when he kicked it back out.

Defensively, Gibson and the taller Titans were a force.  I was amazed to read the boxscore to see the Pointers outrebounded 35-20.  Oshkosh had 12 OFFENSIVE rebounds!  Turnovers were obviously the key.  Point is known to be smart with the ball, but Oshkosh didn't really pressure Point that much.  Point, on the other hand, played in-your-face defense.

What amazed me was that Semling actually played zone and it worked.  Cool stuff to see.  Oshkosh didn't have a clue how to attack it and it was actually amusing to see the Titan players literally stand around.

Oshkosh has some shooters on their team; D.J. Marsh is a solid player.  It was a little discouraging to see Point and Oshkosh trade baskets, but I wasn't too disappointed in Point's overall defense.  I don't think scoring 90 a game is their plan, but if the defense lets them, by all means.

I think Jon Krull was frustated offensively.  No one dared taking it to the hole against Gibson, and Point took advantage when Gibson was on the bench.

Defensively, Gibson is a stud...but last night, I think, offensively, it was more of a matter of Point's defense rather than Gibson's lack of offense.

Point has shown great balance the last two games.  Rortvedt can obviously nail them from long range.  El-Amin and Hicklin, and Beamish can score those short jumpers.  Drew, Krull and even Matt Moses can also put the ball in the net.  After the first two games, when Krull averaged like 28 a game, the rest of Point's players are becoming more confident with the ball.

Matt Moses is a stud defender too!  Gibson had three blocks, but "Mo" had TWO!

It shouldn't come as a surprise however, that UWO struggled against the zone.  They traditionally struggle against teams who play a zone, and last night was no different.  I was actually surprised to see Point go back to the Man defense after UWO looked like a deer in headlights against Point's 1-2-2.

True, that Oshkosh didn't look like they knew what they were doing, but the simple fact that Semling played zone amazed me! lol.  :P

almost as amazing as Swampgoon NOT ordering the French Dip at Perkins, instead of going with some Chicken Melt, and then NOT ordering fries, rather taking a salad instead...shocking.  ;)

I am still wondering if Swampgoon is real, or a pigment :D of your imagination.

Remember OS, you, me, stoutguy and, ...I guess we'll invite Rico21 for burgers and ale for pre-game at the Stout Ale House this year.  ;)

Mr. Downtown

Stoutguy

I'll be in your area when Oshkosh comes for the double header. I'll be broadcasting for WRST Sports. Possibly see you there?

Rico 21

I'm honored to be included for beer and burgers!

Rico 21

...and for my 100th post

oooh, I think I just pulled a hammy!

stoutguy

Mr Downtown.  I will see you there.  We will talk.

Hoops Junkie

Probbaly overstating the obvious but

Gonna be a long long year in Superior....

They looked pitiful against River Falls, and what is scary for them is that River Falls has a least three newcomers better then anyone Superior brought in. (Davis, Robertson, Koonkoew)

I think that people expecting a big improvement out of Superior are going to be waiting a while.

Any news out of Platteville?  Haven't heard a peep from the Southeast corner of the state all year...

Should be an interesting matchup between Pville and Stout.  I chose the 'Ville in the pick 'em, just 'cause I was bored and I figured it would help Point out if I was right  ;)     Should be interesting to see how the Skemp/Nonemacher(s) matchup goes.  The Pio's look young, with just two seniors and 3 juniors, but that's what Point's got too, and they've had a good season thusfar!

I saw on the WIAC page that this game will be tape-delayed on Dec 5th at 7:00 PM on FSN North.  Sounds like it should be a pretty good one... better than the other game selected... Whitewater at Superior.  I wonder who was choosing the games...?  To pick a game between the league pick and a usual basement dweller, in the dweller's gym?  In a gym that's tough to play in because of the atmosphere...  and that's the atmosphere of an almost empty gym with a scant few hecklers calling from the stands, not from a raucous crowd?

Hmm...

Platteville Update: We are playing very good defense as usual . We are very young in the Backcourt. We are very balanced in scoring. I think we are better than predicted, but we will see. As to Stout, what happened to all of the Good backcourt players? Stout looks weak in the backcourt, from reading the boxscores. Come on Down, the roads are good in SW WI, the Storm missed us. God Bless!

Downtown Guy: I am now posting here as well. How did Point get away with playing such a short lineup. Did the two skinny 6 6 guys put on weight. You Pointers are hot, but I do not know how you will win regularly in the conference with no height in the lineup. You guys must be playing the D this Year. good luck to all the Teams this Year.
