Can anyone answer this UW-La Crosse question for me?

What happened to Andrew Huss, Jarrod Pelkofer, and why didn't David Chivington from Oshkosh West ever go out?

John Gleich

Superfan,

Look at this box score... it might shed some light.  15 assists to 2 TO's, 13/23 from 3 (56%), 28/54 from the field (51.9%), 20/22 FT's (90.9%).  This team led the country in TO's last year, less than 10, and FT percentage when a large percentage of these players were freshmen.  The problems Point had last year were largely defensive, and another year under this team's belt working on defense at college speed has done wonders.  These guys are all a bit bigger and they've got more experience, plus they've already knocked off 3 ranked teams.

This team is AVERAGING 85.5 pts through 4 games, averaging less than 8 TO's per game, with a TEAM assist to TO ratio of 1.94:1.  They're shooting better than 40% from deep, better than 50% from the field, and 87% from the charity stripe.  There are SEVEN players averaging 8.8 points or more.

All of this combined is how you win regularly.

huss chose not to go out.  The kid is extremely intelligent and i believe done at the end of semester or has an accounting internship next semester..........only one i talked to but heard that pelkofer just didn't have the drive anymore, which happens at this level i do believe

no clue on chivington

Oshkosh buries Superior 76-44, and Kerry Gibson dominates with a triple-double.  13 points, 11 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Any news out of Platteville?  Haven't heard a peep from the Southeast corner of the state all year...

Should be an interesting matchup between Pville and Stout.  I chose the 'Ville in the pick 'em, just 'cause I was bored and I figured it would help Point out if I was right  ;)     Should be interesting to see how the Skemp/Nonemacher(s) matchup goes.  The Pio's look young, with just two seniors and 3 juniors, but that's what Point's got too, and they've had a good season thusfar!

I saw on the WIAC page that this game will be tape-delayed on Dec 5th at 7:00 PM on FSN North.  Sounds like it should be a pretty good one... better than the other game selected... Whitewater at Superior.  I wonder who was choosing the games...?  To pick a game between the league pick and a usual basement dweller, in the dweller's gym?  In a gym that's tough to play in because of the atmosphere...  and that's the atmosphere of an almost empty gym with a scant few hecklers calling from the stands, not from a raucous crowd?

Hmm...

Platteville 58

Skemp and Goose held their own and than some against the twins.  It was a great game with the pioneer fans being as loud as it was 3 years ago when we were in the conference chase.  The best part of the game as when PC had to be held back for going after Eddy.  Great game tonight and should be another great game on Humpday against LAX.  P-ville will surprise a lot of people this season.  Their young players are really good.

Either RF is better than I figured they'd be, or Point is not as good as other SP teams I've seen, or at least that's the way it appeared today. The Falcons gave them a scare toward the end, but had allowed a 17 point bulge with about 7 minutes to go--too much to overcome.
In the end , it was ft shooting (6 point differential), rebounding (5 more for Point), and to's (4 more for RF) which decided it. FG % was even at 50% (each team had 46% on threes, making and identical 8/18).

This was not Point's best game, but their experience showed. The battle of 5"8" guards was fun to watch. El Amin was a better 3 shooter today, but Koontaew was a better penetrator. Krull got only 9. but others made up the slack, esp P.
Rortvedt.
Final: SP 81, RF 73 (75-69 w/57 secs. left).

Correction: Krull got only 7, Rortvedt 20, El-Amin 15, Beamish 14.
For RF:  Koonkaew 17, Davis and Thompson 14, Robertson 11.

Thank you for the report on Point. You are right they are playing very well. Are you guys playing in the Dubuque Holiday this year. I may go down and see a few games over the Holidays! As to UWP vs Stout, I sat with the crazies, the only old guy in the crowd near the Pep Band. it was fun. I did not understand why Stout did not foul. they were down 58-52 with 130 to go and UWP not in the Bonus. We ran out the Clock. As I predicted, the better back court won. Loaff hitting 3 3 pointers to stat the 2nd half turned the game around. 2 of UWS stating guards did not go out, according to an assistant coach, which is causing problems. The Twins were also very emotional, they need to concentrate more on the game , not the Calls. God Bless!

Alum night at Kolf!  Jay, Nick and Jack Bennett, Kyle Grucszynski and, of course, Jason Kalsow all in attendence.  Nice to say hi to all of them.

My apologies to Scottie Anderson for not mentioning him earlier!  :D

I didn't get to say hi to him though.

Fred Falcon and Not Fred Falcon,

Not sure where you guys were or what you look like, but the infamous Swampgoon and I were in the house.  As per usual, I'm always up for meeting fellow posters, especially ones that are mayors.

Point/River Falls Boxscore

Not a real great game by the Pointers last night.  But, good teams win when not playing at their best.  Winning on the road in the WIAC is tough and starting out 2-0 on the road is pretty nice...and 4-0 on the road against 3 ranked teams is awesome.

Point came out on fire going up 8-0,  but then fell flat and the defense again was lackluster at some points of the game.  River Falls impressed me and they have a few good players on their squad that are young and will continue to improve.  Again, Point's post defense wasn't very good and their help defense was a little late.  It's frustrating to watch the teams just trade baskets when I expect more defensively from the Pointers.  I went over to the radio table when Semling did his post game rant and he said that River Falls has some scorers and they'll upsest some teams this year.

They are tough offensively, but their defense wasn't very good.  Krull was held in check, but it's nice to see balanced scoring once again.  Rortvedt was again unstoppable, while Beamish, El-Amin and Krautkramer also scored in double-digits.  Drew Jackson also chipped in with 8.  Krull only had 7, but when everyone else puts up numbers, it's not much of a concern.

Krautkramer had a great game and it was by far the best game I remember him playing.  It was really nice to see him do well since he's spent a lot of his Pointer career on the bench.

Beamish continues to shine this year and Matt Moses shows that he's a very reliable defender.  Point only goes about 8 deep now, but there isn't much of a drop off when Drew Jackson and Matt Moses come in.  If Krautkramer can keep up his good work, he'll come in and make an impact like he did yesterday.

River Falls was pretty good.  I don't really know much about them, but like I said before and what Semling said, they have some scorers, a good post game and solid guards from what I saw.

BIG NEWS OUT OF PLATTEVILLE: The Pioneers are 5-0 for the first time since 2001-2002. From the sound of it, Jeff Skemp played a great game against someone his size, for once (outside of his best 2 games of his career against UW, and UWM) and Mark Gossens did exactly what he always does, and thats play solid minutes for the Orange and Blue. The Pioneers have gelled so far this year, but as always, can it continue?
It's obvious that Stout has some serious issues with the losses of Chandler and Stangel. Losing one of those guys would have been tough, but it's obviously caused Stout to have not one, but two HUGE holes in their lineup. Now, they do have "I'm going to make money playing professional basketball somewhere in the world even if it's Antarctica" Jacob Nonemacher...but someone still has to get him the ball.
Really excited to see the Pioneers off to such a hot start, but my question is, have they played anyone yet? Viterbo, Buena Vista, Dubuque, Loras and Stout. Obviously Stout is down from the past couple years with their losses, but they are still a quality team who will win a couple big games this year. Loras, yes they beat LaCrosse, but I'm not all that impressed with them and Buena Vista always puts together a solid team. Viterbo and Dubuque are nothing to write home about, so as WIAC play gets underway, can the Orange and Blue compete on a consistent basis...I'll go out on a limb and say, why not?
Jamerson, Shaw, Lohoff, Gossens, Skemp, Richter, Hanson and Tetschlag, not a bad Top 8. Skemp could be next years Conference POY, and Lohoff has 1st team All Conference written all over him. Jamerson has played steady running the point and guarding the ball and the freshman and guys coming off the bench have all given big minutes at different points in this young season. I like they makeup of this team. GO PIONEERS!

One more note...big props to the O-Zone, Platteville Student Section, for it's continued support of the Pioneers. Although the grayhairs on the opposite side (with the back rests and season tickets) may not know how to stand and cheer for the Pioneers, our students certainly do. If you have not been to a Pioneer game in a couple years, make your way out, the EXCITEMENT is BACK!!!!
