Greek Tragedy

I don't have a horse in this race, but I'll again say that it takes some coaching to come back from double-digits down against Point in Quandt, go full court press and have the lead in the last seconds of the game.  Coaches make mistakes, but they also don't go out on the floor and execute or fail to execute.  After Riley had early season free throw problems, you don't see him at the end of the game.  Perry is a stud.

Good posting ,keep it up. I do think we should emphasize the positive when mentioning individual players, Sounds like Mr. Gibson was fortunate just to play. Also, remember how ESPN made Butch at UW look bad. Just a suggestion. Merry Christmas!

No question, the Pointers are looking tough.

And Elmhurst, if they are not in the top 25, someone better call the SID's and tell them to pay attention to this team.

That's fine and all but if you're starting a campaign you might want to hit all 25 voters, not just eight of them.

Mr. Downtown

I don't know if I'm looking to make a campaign for Elmhurst to be in the top 25, but I think they should be. They have won seven in a row, and that includes two wins against two of the top WIAC teams!

Remember, before everyone gets on me about the top WIAC teams, I think right now there's 4 (Stevens Point, La Crosse, Oshkosh, and Whitewater...in that order), and Platteville is a wait and see.

Good game tonight at Kolf with the Titans going up against Carroll. Has anyone here seen Carroll this season?

Swampgoon and I saw them when Point went to Waukasha to open the season.  They didn't impress me at all, though Drury is a stud.  I mentioned something about the difference between Lawrence and Carroll on the MWC board.  Simply put, if you get a sizeable lead, I don't think Carroll believes they can come back and win...unlike Lawrence, who trailed Point big AND Oshkosh big and nearly came back to win both those games.  Mentally, LU is a lot tougher.  They are small, so hopefully Gibson is in full health.  Krull went off on Carroll for 30 or something like that.

Carroll beat Carthage, but Carthage beat Lawrence...you figure it out. :D  If I make it back over to Oshkosh, I'll probably be the only one wearing a grey hooded Pointer sweatshirt and a purple Stevens Point hat.

Well UWO completes the MWC trifecta tonight downing Carroll, 78-59.  For the second game in a row, they put four players in double figures (actually had five guys in double figures against Lawrence) led by Capelle and Gibson who had 16 points apiece.  Miller came off the bench and was 4-4 from 3-pt range, to add 12 points, while Seckar-Anderson was solid again chipping in with 10 points on 5-6 shooting.

I have to admit, I didn't expect to see UWO win all three contests by double figures.  It appears as though they may have found a "spark" with the insertion of Seckar-Anderson into the starting line-up.  They are now 4-0 since the change, and it seems as if a different player is stepping up and contributing each game. (Does this sound familiar Point fans??)
-Jordan Johnson came off the bench to score 14 points and grab 7 rebounds against St. Norbert's.
-Chad Doedens and D.J. Marsh dropped in 15 points apiece against Lawrence.
-Miller scores 12 points in 15 minutes against Carroll.

Now instead of focusing on only Capelle and Gibson, UWO actually has shown some other offensive options.  Teams are going to have to gameplan against more than just two players now.

Things could get pretty interesting if UWO continues to play as they have over this four game stretch.

Boxscore

Back from Oshkosh as they put the hammer down on Carroll tonight.  The game was tight in the first half.  It seemed that neither team could stop each other with Drury doing some early damage and then Ryan Mueller hitting four 3's in a row.  After hitting a baseline jumper, he turned and stared down the Oshkosh bench.  Needless to say, his coach saw it and chewed him out pretty good as Mueller came down the floor to play some "defense".

Carroll had a hard time stopping Gibson, as predicted in an earlier post.  When double and sometimes triple teamed, Gibson was able to find a slashing player or a player out by the 3-pt. line.

Oshkosh had just a 1-pt. lead at the break, but then decided to play stifling defense in the 2nd half.  Carroll scored just 21 after intermission, this after going for 38 in the first half.  Oshkosh held Carroll to "one and dones" thanks to a huge rebounding margin (41-22!).

Little Matt Miller was a spark off the bench.  He threw an errant pass against a full-court press, but instead of giving up, he won the ball back and then nailed a NBA length 3-pter...and then on the ensuing Oshkosh possession, nailed another long-range bomb to push the lead to 9.  From there, it was all but over for Carroll and they never seemed like they were going to get back into the game.  Umm, I think I mentioned something about Carroll playing from behind before!  I rule! lol.

Seckar-Anderson looked good, as did Capelle.  What is up with Doedens?  Is he afraid to shoot?  There were several times when Gibson got doubled, threw it out to Doedens and he didn't even fake a shot.  He just passed it off.

This is the Oshkosh that a lot of people should fear.  They played very well in the second half, contesting every shot and sharing the ball on offense.  They knew where Carroll had problems and they threw it into Gibson on nearly every possession, at least just so he gets a touch.  Carroll went zone only a couple of times and I'm surprised they didn't stick with that because it seemed to work when they did.

UWO looked good against MWC's top dogs and they take the momentum to the Clarke Holiday tourney.

Mr. Downtown

Again, I missed ya Oldschool. Perhaps when we visit Stevens Point, we'll meet up.

Oshkosh is looking good...real good. Perhaps the best I've seen them since I've been going to school here.

I think Gibson is finally understanding his potential. That no way can a single guy can take him. Teams have to double team him in order to shut him down. If he doesn't have an opening, Oshkosh is finding a way to get the ball in the hands of a scorer to do the damage.

DJ Marsh, which us Oshkosh fans have been telling you about for the past two years, is red-hot. He's finally playing some defense, and even though he still does commit self-inflicted turnovers (Freshman will do that), I have yet to see anyone in the WIAC as athletic as he is. He just flies to the basket and makes great mid-air adjustments.

Kinda scary when you add in the fact that Matt Miller is hitting NBA range 3's, Seckar-Anderson is creating a spark down low, and giving Gibson some help, and we have yet to mention Capelle.

On our sports call-in radio show, I went out with what my on-air mates call "The out there pick" which I generally make every show (Like the Chicago Bears 67, Green Bay Packers 6), and I predicted Oshkosh would win 12 straight games.

They've won 4, and if they do pull off the winning streak, you know what the next game is?

@ Stevens Point :)

Things are looking good in Oshkosh. Things are looking good...

I had to get on this site, Fb site very depressing with the Stout Bust. Good summary of CC-vs UWO. I will likely be in DBQ to see the Titans play, around my 3rd Shift sleeping schedule.  Mr. DT you are right about the Titans, a lot of talent and potentially very dangerous! Merry Christmas to All!

Game Story

Another feather in the WIAC cap tonight as it's reported that La Crosse knocked off #4 St. Thomas in Minnesota.  Great work!

It's to be noted that their All-American center didn't play, Isaac Rosefelt (16.7 ppg, 11.2 rpg), who is out with an illness.

This should come as a surprise to nobody, but the Pointers' game in Colorado has been cancelled.  I hope they can get a refund on those airline tickets:
