This should come as a surprise to nobody, but the Pointers' game in Colorado has been cancelled.  I hope they can get a refund on those airline tickets:

Good work Just Bill!  I hope they can get a refund on those tickets to the Denver Nuggets game they were going to attend tonight (I think) as well!

Ironically, prior to the big snow storm, I had planned on going out to Colorado to visit a good friend of mine.  One of my 'destinations" was the Regis/Point game, along with the Avalanche game Saturday night and also the Broncos/Bengals unofficial playoff game on Sunday.  Good thing my plans fell through! lol  :P

I didn't even thing about that game being cancelled. It is rough in Colorado right now, though.  I talked to my best friend yesterday who was coming home from Colorado State, and he said he had to drive on just about every back road along I-80 to get back to IL.  He said at one point, there was a Police road block, and he blew right by it with his 4 wheel drive.  He knew they weren't going to chase him with just their police cruisers in that much snow.

He's kinda nuts, but I guess he really wanted to get home.  His bachelor party is tonight, I guess that's why!

That's an acceptable reason to blow by a police road block!  That and to watch Manchester United play.

Attention:  Those planning to attend the Mose Hole Classic next weekend in Wooster, OH, featuring Wooster, Calvin, UW-La Crosse, and Ohio Northern:

Two brief announcements:

1. In lieu of admission to the "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic, fans can bring in two new or gently-used clothing items for one ticket, four clothing items for two tickets, etc. The clothing items will benefit Goodwill Industries of Wayne and Holmes counties.  (This is from the Wooster web site.  I presume that one ticket is for one session, i.e. Friday or Saturday but not both, but I'm not sure.  Bring four gently-used items just to be sure; Goodwill can certainly use them!  :))

2.  Some of us are planning to gather at the Olde Jaol Tavern Brewing Co. downtown on Saturday afternoon, prior to the consolation game.  I hope I can persuade Pat Coleman, publisher of D3Hoops.com and D3Football.com, to join us there.  So if you want to say hello to Pat and some of your fellow posters (and lurkers), please plan to join us.  I figure I'll be there around 3pm for a late lunch.  The Olde Jaol is at 155 W. North St., at the corner of Walnut, and can be reached at 330-262-3333.  Here's a link to a Yahoo! map, or you can PM me for driving directions.  Hope to see you there!

Thanks for the info Dave.  I don't think I'll make it out there since the big Point/Augustana game is next weekend, along with some other social outings.  It sounds like a great weekend for basketball with some quality teams participating in it.

I can't figure out the La Crosse team.  They win big games and lose ones they should win.  At least so far they've more than held their own in the conference.

Good posting, highly entertaining. nice promotion for Wooster and Goodwill. Wish i could go but no vacation yet at my retirement Job! Good opportunity for Lacrosse. Will they play Wooster if they both win on the first night? congratulations UWL on a great win. Merry Christmas and God Bless!

Yes.  The Friday matchups are LaX vs. Calvin followed by Wooster vs. ONU.  Losers pair off on Saturday, followed by winners.  Thus, LaX will play a Top 10 team Saturday regardless of how they do against Calvin Friday.

Sorry you can't come.  I hope there will be a good group of Eagles fans in attendance, as it should be a great weekend of hoops.  Plenty of room for all; the gym seats 3400 and the students are on break!

Happy holidays to all!  :)

I hope Wooster and Calvin are at full strength, because I wouldn't want anyone to criticize their [potential] win against either of them like they've been getting a beating over in the top 25 board after they topped St. Thomas without their big man!  ;)

You'd have to ask chmarx, but I'm not sure how many people made it to Calvin for the NCAA tourney.  But, La Crosse usually has plenty of room at home when the students are around, let alone going anywhere!  To their credit though, they have improved their attendence dramatically over recent years.

OS, I don't think anyone has "criticized" UW-La Crosse's win over UST.  It is just that any discussion of that game has to include the fact that UST's preseason 1st Team All-American did not play.  It'd be misleading to talk about that one without considering that.  Would those great Stevens Point teams have been the same in a game without Jason Kalsow or Nick Bennett?

Bottom line for UW-La Crosse is that it is a very nice in-region win.

Mr. Downtown

All I'm going to say is that I don't think you can be a top 5 in the nation with only one outstanding player.

OH...and by the way, they did this on the road!! :o

Pat Coleman

I don't think they have just one oustanding player. However, they have only one first team All-American and if he's absent then it deserves to be noted.

Mr. Downtown

I don't know much about St. Thomas, or the conference they play in.

But let's play a "What if" game. What if this all-american did play, and what would have happened with a head to head match up with Werner?

Pat Coleman

I'm guessing Werner and others score about six fewer points (mathematically supported by Rosefelt's 3.0 blocked shots per game) and the 5 spot for St. Thomas produces about 16 points instead of the seven it did.

That's a conservative estimate. Rosefelt went up against a big man with big credentials at Occidental and scored 33.

No one is saying UST doesn't have other good players -- Rosefeldt is not even their leading scorer.  But take Brandon Adair off the 2006 Virginia Wesleyan team or Jeff Gibbs off Otterbein in 2002 and those national champions don't come anywere close to the Final Four.  Players like that change the entire game on both sides of the court.

One superstar player can make all the difference in the world in basketball.
