Point wins by 3, 71-68.  Big 2nd halves by Krull and Rortvedt.  Point trailed at the half 34-27, but made a bunch of 3s in the 2nd half.  Point had an uncharacteristic 16 TOs but they outrebounded the taller Augustana team.

What amazed me was that Semling actually played zone and it worked.  Cool stuff to see.  Oshkosh didn't have a clue how to attack it and it was actually amusing to see the Titan players literally stand around.
It shouldn't come as a surprise however, that UWO struggled against the zone.  They traditionally struggle against teams who play a zone, and last night was no different.  I was actually surprised to see Point go back to the Man defense after UWO looked like a deer in headlights against Point's 1-2-2.

Happens to teams that are unprepared due to extensive deer hunting obligations.

So what does that say about LU???  An unprepared team was still able to beat your beloved Vikings...... ::)

UWEC loses in their Holiday Tournament to Wartburg, 75-70.  The final score is closer than the game was.  Wartburg lead by 15-20pts for most of the 2nd half.  UWEC lets this get away in the 1st half due to poor coaching.  They played a zone defense the whole half against a good 3-point shooting team.  Warburg had easy looks every time down the court.  Needless to say, Wartburg ended up with 9 three pointers in the 1st half.

Both teams shoot 53% on FGs.  Good game for EC's Bardon.  He kept the game from being a blowout.

Buf-

Were you even there??  SERIOUSLY??  It was a matchup zone with shots hit in their face for the majority of the first half.  Wartburg is GOOD.  Gullicksrud was HOT in the first half scoring 16, EC held him to 18.  They have so many weapons it isn't even funny.  Wartburg will make some SERIOUS noise down the stretch in Iowa.  The game was EXACTLY as close as it sounded.  If you were there and saw it you would know that, unless you're in some crazy denial.  All you do is bash, bash, bash.  The fact that they were down by 20 at one point and cut the lead to FOUR POINTS with a minute left against a very good team says something about their coaching.  All you do is constantly rip the EC coaching staff.....did it ever occur to you that Wartburg was pretty hot tonight???  Get your stuff straight or stop posting.....it's sickening.

which there has been every reason to do over the last 5 years.  Heck I have bashed and bashed coach Koelbl but fact is that he has turned UWL around and it's nice to see.

Maybe if Coach Gibbons would let all the players at his university tryout instead of cutting players that you didn't recruit that might happen to be better than the ones you recruit (if you don't believe me I can lend you a nice example) he might have a better squad year in and year out.............With that being said, EC seems to be turning a corner itself, maybe a few years too late though

If you're talking Joe Werner......please.....and as for the tryouts, I know who has been trying out the past couple of years.  His squad is justified.  But I am not on here to talk about coaching......coaches know more than I do, more than you do.  I just get sick of Buf only pointing out the negative things about the EC program and RARELY EVER pointing out positives.  It gets old.

Perhaps you could share positives instead of just lambasting another's opinion.

Falcons lose in OT to 4th ranked UST, 87-84, after leading 47-32 at half. Robertson had 22 pts. and 10 rbds. for his third double/double of the season. Koonkaew had 17. Both made all tourney team, along with Schnettler (most valuable) of UST, and others. I was not at the game, but wish I had been. Had I been there, the total attendance could have been 351!

That's 50 more than the night before, so are the Falcons now a team to adore? (Poetry at its best?)

I wasn't there either but listened to the closing minutes of regulation & OT on the radio.  I loved the enthusiasm of your student game announcers!

Regarding the MVP award, actually it was Schnettler's teammate, Mike Keating who earned the MVP award.

Your Falcons must be progressing nicely from when I saw them play at the Bethel tourney little over a month ago.  Good luck the rest of the season.

I doubt he was talking about Werner since he said, "players at HIS university." Werner never went to EC and I assumed everyone here knows that. I know laxeagles does.

And since you know who has been trying out the past couple years you're either on the staff or good friends with someone on the staff, so defend them. You really didn't refute the "negativity" (or some would argue reality), you just said stop it.

As Pat asked, what are the positives? I think it's hard to believe they'll finish higher than 6th (7th or 8th more likely) which would make 6 straight years 6th or lower.

If I were a Eau Claire fan, why should I be excited about this program?

When you go to a D3 university and know the athletes, it isn't that hard to stay up with who is trying out, coming in, etc.  You don't have to be on the staff or friends with the staff.  Perhaps I am friends with the players.....My post stated that the game was MUCH closer than what Buf stated (Wartburg had their starters in when the game ended), EC had a very good second half, Jerod Bardon played really well, and this was all against a good team that will do very well in the Iowa conference down the stretch.  I was simply pointing out that Buf never puts anything on here positive towards EC, rather waits to post when they lose.....there are a lot of people in EC who would like to know his name.  I think EC is about to turn the corner, I really do.

Fred,
You are just a Mayor now.  Leave the poetry to us professionals.

When your Falcons get trashed by my Stout,
In a classic, but old-fashioned rout.
One thing will be clear,
You will buy us no beer.
You'll just go home, cry "foul", and pout.
