Thanks flash. My little bit on the Pointers earlier cost me one.  :D

I take it that Jake Nonemacher's injury was not as serious as first feared.   Judging solely by the box score numbers it looks like he had a decent game last night.  Eddie has to be breathing a sigh of relief over that.

We all are breathing easier BW.  ;)

Jake wore a brace but played like a warrior I am told. Little sore the next morning but he is ok.

I wasn't in LAX to see it however. I had to rely on Stoutguy's call of the game on the radio.

Which means I have no clue on what happened.  ;D

Anyone on their PC Saturday morning can listen in to "Western Wisconsin Sports Saturday" featuring Stoutguy for a whole host of WIAC discussion.

Several coaches will be on as well as Jack Bennett and our very own guru, Pat Coleman. I believe Pat is scheduled for around 9:30am.

The show runs from 8am-10am and can be found on the internet at www.wmeq.com. Click on "Listen Live."  8)

Anyway, one take on the game this Saturday has to do with the Point/Superior score.

Any team that wins by 56 points and scores over 100 isn't walking the ball up the court I am thinking. Running it up a little, Pointers?  ???

I would look at that score as well, if I were an observer and may think that too.  But, frodotwo defended them pretty well.  Point was up 27 at half and when the bench totally cleared at the eight minute mark, with Kevin Grusczynski, Evan Sweeney, Ross Rortvedt and Scott Hoelzel coming in, Point was up 46.  No starter played more than 25 minutes.

No coach in their right mind is going to clear their benches to start the 2nd half and it's not like Superior didn't have opportunities to score...if you read the play-by-play, they had a lot of "missed shots," while Point had a lot of "layups"!  The reserves played well, and even up by 40+, even THEY want to score.  It was Superior's job to stop Point's reserves and they didn't do a very good job of that either.  ;D

Thanks OS. I was tongue in cheek when I posted that.  ;)

When Souptown played here I didn't think anyone could run them over 101-45, and with the bench playing major minutes as well.

See you tomorrow Old School. Looking forward to meeting Swampgoon and finding out where the hell that name came from.  :D

It sure helps having all-state players "just" sitting on the bench too, as Point does  ;)

It was really kind of striking seeing those guys out there playing together... they all really are quite capable players.  Hoelzel grabbed a rebound, dribbled the length of the floor for a dunk off of a secondary break when the defense broke down, Kevin Grusczynski is trying to battle his way into the regular rotation after being a starter and major contributor for part of the season last year.  Ross Rortvedt was the only Pointer who failed to score, and Jon Krull played less than half his normal regiment of minutes.

Plattbacker,

That's very true... the future looks bright for Point, as there are just two Seniors and two Juniors on the team!

I've been out of town getting a new bride from Russia.  She's a hottie if I can say so myself, and I will be spending much less time in the gym this season. ::)

Glad to see there are others here critical of TVD and his underachievements.  I heard if they don't make the tourney he will be fired.

Can any of you Oshkosh locals verify that? Don't these folks have state union contracts that say he gets to be the librarian if he doesn't have the cush basketball job?

I read with interest about Grinell. Do they win any games with the Circus layup vs 3 shot drill? I want a preview about Superior. I think they have a chance if Gossens does not play. Oshkosh 2000 did you really get married or just buy Vodka? Why rip TVD?He is a good coach. Part of the problem is that the bar is set so high with the great coaches our conference has had in the past. Blessings and watch out I am up to 201!

Yeah, Grinnell actually does win some games with that strategy.  They are only about .500 this year, but in past years they've been pretty good, record wise.  Several years ago, they actually cracked the d3hoops Top 25 poll, but it took them to go 13-0 or so before anyone noticed or cared, outside the Midwest Conference.  Go over to that board, and a poster named jeffp will tell you all about it.  There is an actual formula in figuring out what needs to be done for them to win and justifies them passing up on a layup to dish it outside for a 3pt shot.

Superior doesn't really seem like they play too much defense, it's hard to gauge from the Point game because Stevens Point was so good and Superior was so bad.  Superior doesn't list heights on their webpage, but they have about 3 or 4 guys that are about 5'9 and they are real quick.  If Leonard Cobb is fully healthy, he can be trouble inside.  I think their new guy they got at the semester can be pretty good.  I think his name is Nick Messner.  I hope James Nobles goes off because I have him in my fantasy league! lol.  He averages 10 boards a game and 11 pts. a game.  With the board average, I thought he'd be bigger, but he's not very big at all..and on the slender side.  Nobles is more of that big man in the middle monster-tye guy.  Lamar Burton-Norman is not shy about shooting and he'll launch it from anywhere.  Along with Nobles, Cobb and B-T, Ely and even Hill can shoot the rock.

Most of this is based on stats since I've only seen them play once....but the Pointer radio guys before the game said they were pretty worried about Superior because they've improved a lot and with the addition of their new guy at the semester, they could put a scare into some teams.

****oh yeah, there is a board on this site titled, "who's running the system" and it gives you more information on the style of play.

RF had 71-69 lead w/.04 seconds left. Coach Jeff Berkhof is called for a technical foul for being out of the coach's box. Two free throws good for WW and we're in o.t. Four starters for Falcons w/four fouls each.

It looks like WW doesn't have live stats.  However, links to both teams radio webcasts are located Here
