Wouldn't you know, when I'm not there, Falcons go on a tear--WITHOUT Robertson, their leading scorer and rebounder. Davis hits his first 7 shots, ends with 18 at half. Falcons finish with 5 guys in double figures, Davis leading with 24. I knew they were coming on, but was not smart enuf to  pick 'em at home. And OS changed his pick based on Robertson's absence. Glad I  could help you out with the post, OS!

Didn't listen to the UWEC game, but I see they win 72-65 over Superior. Close game, so the first thing I checked in the box score? Free throws.

And, since I've been harping on the poor shooting this season from the charity stripe, I will give the 'Golds credit tonight. 10 of 11 from the line tonight, including 9-10 in the second half, with the 'Golds last five points coming on 5-6 shooting down the stretch to keep it out of reach...

Yes, it's different when the spotlight is on and the crowd is there, but free throws are fundamentals. And knocking down those free throws, and a team's shooting percentage from the stripe, translates into a couple of wins here or there throughout the course of season, while the converse results in a lot of close losses...

BW--It was not explained to me what the right call should have  been--not that it really matters.

OS--2 days ago the word on Robertson from the coach was that he would not  play vs. Lax. Today, the word from same source is that he may play tonite if the trainer says okay. Still, he won't be near full strength. Looks like he's able to play vs. Pointers, tho.

I was long gone by then.  I left She-Vegas for Platteville, via Madison to meet up with Swampgoon, at 3 pm.  So, you don't get any credit for that! lol  :o

I'll post a game review tomorrow.  Alarm clock going off in less than 5 hours for duty!

Nice to meet PlattAlum77...

Congratulations to River Falls on a quality win at home.  From what I read above, they were playing really well as a team.

Great game last night in PV. Point still plays soft physically, but they are a great team from the 3 line. PR is fearless, he may be the best player in the conference. A 12-2 run with about 8 minutes to go in the game sealed the fate of my beloved Pioneers. We had a chance at the end, and the lead changed 8 times. Small crowd as school is still out. I would have liked to have played them with2,000 fans and the band being present like last year. Meet OS and the Swamp guy, got them free tickets to pay for some gas. I think many of our fans stayed home to watch BO coach the UW Team.Looking forward to some more reports. God Bless!

Mr. Downtown

A very physical game in Oshkosh last night.

As always, a very close game. And just like the trend this season for the Warhawks, they are not able to get it done in the last minutes of the basketball game.

Down by 2, I believe it was Riley who slipped and fell, allowing Jordan Johnson to snatch the ball away for an easy lay up.

After that, it was all free throws from there, and that generally means Mr. Capelle is going to rack up some points.

Whitewater made it interesting with 6 seconds left to go, when Craig Anderson hit a 3 to make it 63-60.

On the inbound pass, it sailed over Capelle's head, and was intercepted by the Warhawks, however...Capelle was undercut by one of the Whitewater players, and it was called a foul.

Big win for Oshkosh tonight, and now they make it a three team race for the WIAC.

Mr. Downtown

2006-2007 Season's first Conference Seedings!!

If the season were to end today:

1     Stevens Point   8-0

8     Eau Claire         2-6

4     Platteville          4-4

5     Whitewater       4-4

3     Oshkosh            6-2

6     River Falls          3-5

2     La Crosse          6-2

7     Stout                  2-6

1) Platteville owns the tiebreaker over Whitewater for the 4th seed due to Platteville's win vs Whitewater

2) La Crosse owns the tiebreaker over Oshkosh for the 2nd seed due to La Crosse's win vs Oshkosh

It looks like free throws played a big role as Oshkosh goes 22 for 25 and WW gets to shoot 8 making only 5.

Point still plays soft physically

Huh?  Do you mean offensively or defensively?  I don't think either.  They play an aggresive/pressure "D" that is not meant to "bang" people around.  They use their quickness to get in the passing lanes and create havoc.  Offensively, they are not "soft".  Just because they pass the ball and take open shots doesn't mean they are "soft".  BTW, they put a couple ball rotation clinics on last night that every high school team should have watched.

I do agree that Rortvedt is one of the best in conference, although he doesn't always stand out on an unselfish team like Point.  It's silly how easy he made some of his shots look.   I keep waiting for Point to have an "off" night shooting, but I may have to wait a long time.  Seems someone always steps up for them.

Platteville played a pretty good game, but Point used a nice run mid-way through the second half to put things a little out of reach.  I was very impressed with the play of our young players.  I have to remind myself that there's a lot of inexperience on the floor at times, but they continue to improve.  Mike Shaw had an excellent shooting night, and Kyle Tetschlag is becoming more comfortable with the college game and showed a lot of determination last night.  It will be fun to watch them the rest of of the season.

It's sad how many blown leads WW has given away this year.  I think the description on the Oshy website said this time that WW up by 7, 51-44 w/ 9 minutes or so to go.  I haven't been to many games this year and don't plan on it because of time constraints, but man o man, it would be nice to have some clutch players and a team on the floor that could hold a good lead and hit free throws and not turn it over.

GO HAWKS

I've heard a lot of descriptions ofStevens Point, but I don't think I've ever heard soft.  I'm not sure a soft team would accomplish what they've been able to.

Maybe your using soft in a different way than I'm thinking.  Can you elaborate?
