Hey, Mr. Bigshot Mayor.  Where in the heck were you Wed. night?

If the bigshot mayor is coming to Point...say hi.

Point ekes out a 106-61 win over RF.

stoutguy--sorry I could not attend the Lax game. I was at a "big-shot mayor" meeting, unfortunately. I will be at the Stout game this coming Wed. nite, tho, and as usual will buy again and again.

WOW --- that's about all that needs to be said about the Pointers this afternoon. They took a quick 8-0 lead and then it was over. Jon Krull nailed everything in sight and the Pointers hit 16-36 from 3 pt land. RF played hard , but you could see it in their faces that once they fell behind by 20 it was over. Coach Berkoff didn't know what to do either because everyone on the Point squad played their "A" game. Scott Hoelzel is going to be a monster player next year, but he is awesome this year when he gets in. His confidence is way up there right now. A huge slam and a thunderous block by him were crowd lifters.  All I can say is that Oshkosh had better bring their "A" game on Wednesday. What happened to La Crosse??  I thought they would challenge for the title, but then they go and lose twice on the road and by 18 at EC no less???

EC defeats UWL by 19 or so.  Probably was EC's best game of the year.  They played well defensively, but what really caught my attention was their work on the boards.  It seemed whenever there were two players going after a board that the EC player would come up with it or the UWL player would knock it out of bounds.

Riley played well for EC and all EC players showed a lot of effort and hustle the whole game.  About the only bright spot for UWL was the play of Brown.  The rest of the team shot horribly, missing many shots from within 10 feet.

Hopefully this win combined with the Superior win will give EC enough confidence to win at least a couple more games the rest of the season and maybe even pull off a surprise or two.  They have Stout at home on Wednesday, which I think they should win.  They did get hammered at Stout earlier in the season but they did versus UWL to and look what happened tonight.  As for UWL, they seem to be heading in the wrong direction with back to back losees versus EC and RF.  It looks like this year is crucial for their recruiting, since Werner will be done and there isn't much depth on that team.

Good crowd at Zorn today!

Dear Buf: The way Stout played UWP today, you should have a good chance against them  They did little right and only got 38 . I credit UWP with playing good defense but 38 points at home is not good. I think the Pioneers could beat anyone in the Tournament if we play our defense and shoot well. As to UWL, I agree they should be playing better. They have a great player in Warner. If UWO does not beat Point in the rematch the conference is over! God Bless!

Final UWEC 65, UWL 47

Blugolds dominated the post most of the game, hauling down more boards 47-29, and forced a lot of one-and-done shots on the defensive end. UWL's poor shooting, especially in the first half (28%), was a big factor in the 'Golds taking a 27-16 lead into the locker room. Shot about the same the second half, too, allowing the 'Golds to pile up 35 defensive rebounds on the game... UWL was but 1-15 from three, too; most were toward the end, when they were trying to get back into the game...

Both teams put on a clinic from the free throw line - UWEC was 20-33 for 60%, while UWL was 12-18 for 66%. Fortunately, UWEC was up enough down the stretch that UWL wasn't able to trade two points for one to close the gap... ;)

Brandon Brown had a great game for the Eagles, leading them in scoring with 19. Kid isn't afraid to take it to the rack... Joe Werner had 16, but the Golds played well enough D on him to prevent him from allowing the Eagles to climb on his back and get back in the game early in the second half, when the closest they got was 9......

Golds hit a four three pointers, which sparked them to the halftime lead... Shot well the second half, 10-19, too. Pretty balanced scoring, too, with 12 each from Dan Beyer and Matt Riley, and 11 from Jared Bardon. Beyer had 12 boards and Steve Hoezel had 9; their presence in the paint was too much for UWL to handle tonight...

Other tidbits - Chris Ask was 2-15 from the field. He got whistled for a T, too. Made a nice board with about 4:30 minutes left, but landed on his back and was called for traveling. He got up and slammed the ball down in frustration, I believe. Score was then 53-35, and I might have let it go, since the ball didn't roll away or anything like that to delay the game... But I'm not a zebra, so...

Werner got knocked off the court toward the end of the game, too, in a scrum. He was laying there for a while in the corner, as the Golds' made a fast break rush toward the other end on O. Refs and action was going down court, and nobody realized he hadn't got up. Whatever happened to him, he was able to shake it off and come back in the game a bit later, but I'm not sure why play wasn't halted...

Had something else happen that I've never seen before, too. Brown was fouled with the 'Golds leading 26-12. But another Eagle stepped to the line and drained both free throws, all the while people were yelling the wrong guy was at the stripe. He made two free throws, but they were wiped off as the refs sorted things out and put Brown on the line. He hit them both...

And last but not least, there were some fans in attendance who wondered why all five Blugold starters were in when the final buzzer sounded... ???

Game will be rebroadcast on FSN Feb. 2, with former Pointer head coach Jack Bennett on the call. Fans in EC, check your local listings, to make sure FSN North doesn't have a U of M, T-Wolves, Wild, or high school hockey game on that night... :D

I love you man!  Now I don't have to find the links! lol  ;D

Can Chris Ask shoot any worse?  1-10 on Wednesday and 2-15 today.  You're killing me in my fantasy league Chris! lol  >:(

BTW, wrong link for the Platteville/Stout game HERE it is...you have Oshkosh/Superior twice.

Sheesh!  Brian and I could have stayed in La Crosse!

Seriously, congratulations to Eau Claire.  They outplayed us soundly.

I thought the technical on Ask was okay.   And it was scary when Werner didn't get up.  BTW, he had to leave the game to save a timeout, but went immediately to the scorer's table and went in at the next break.

Highlight of the game:  Brian and I discovered that Houligans, downtown, has upgraded.  It is now a nice-looking restaurant and has a dynamite beer selection! :d

Mr. Downtown

Oshkosh will be eager to play Point again.

However, is Point eager to play a different Oshkosh team than they played in the beginning of the season??

I wouldn't say Point is eager to play anyone, specifically.  Point just prepares for whoever is on the schedule next.  It sounds like a cliche and all, but I honestly think Point feels that way and that's how Semling wants it.  Obviously, it might be different had Point lost to them.  I understand Oshkosh if they feel that way, wanting to get revenge and all that.  I don't anticipate anyone from Point saying, "Wow, I can't wait to play Oshkosh again, maybe they'll actually be good this time around!"  (major sarcasm obviously) lol  :P ;D :D ;)

As already mentioned Point routs River Falls.  I was actually concerned about this game based on how River Falls played against Point up there and the fact they just knocked off La Crosse.  They've been playing well and one thing that I noticed is that Point sometimes has a hard time with quick guards, something that Platteville showed (with Jamerson) and something that River Falls in Koonkaew (that's the reason why I said mythicalbird should've started Koonkaew!-didn't matter, I lost anyway)...

That's neither here or there...I think the team is surprising even the most dedicated Poniter fans.  There are times that they come out simply amazing and are unstoppable.  I remember at the beginning of the season when some posters were concerned about Point's defense and how they, themselves, were scoring 80+ a game.  Can Point win the WIAC by outscoring everyone?  So far, so good.  And their defense was pretty good too.

With the five starters going 27-44 from the field, it's safe to say it's going to be hard to stop Point.  You shut down Krull from the inside and you have to deal with Rortvedt;  shut down both of those guys and you have the best all-around player on the team, Beamish doing damage and then you have Hicklin who is a master at the mid-range jumper.  Hoelzel has really come on lately and Drew Jackson can also be reliable.  Oh yeah, did I mention the engine that runs the team, El-Amin?  Hicklin had NINE assists last night.  Krautkramer can come in and add muscle, and Grucszynski has five fouls to use as well!  :D

I just want to say that Drew Jackson is one of my favorite players on the team.  He works so hard in the "hustle category" but seems to get yelled at a lot!  :'(  I know there have been times when he's been beaten for a rebound or has gotten one and then has had it stripped away...and those things need to be improved upon, but, he looks like one of the hardest working guys and the stats don't always show it.  :D  Kudos to ya.

Wednesday's game is going to be huge.  It's funny that everyone has been talking about Whitewater's demise, La Crosse's run (aside from recent losses) and River Falls being a sleeper.  Did anyone notice that Oshkosh is 15-3 and 7-2 in conference? Wow.

I think with La Crosse's recent losses, they are nearly out of the Pool C running, as is Platteville and Whitewater...all with 6 losses.  I'm not sure if all of those are in-region, but with half of the conference schedule to go, does that matter?

Pretty lame efforts on the mid-season all-conference posts.  Someone suggested doing it again...and it wasn't even me.  I think I counted five ballots, so it's not even worth posting the results.  Same on you! lol. ;D...saves me time, I guess!

WARHAWKS crush Milwaukee School of Engineering 95-62.  Gio Riley and Mike Toellner each scored 14 points to pace WW.  Jason Price adds 11.

It's starting to look like, with the exception of Stevens Point and possibly Oshkosh, that the rest of the league is looking pretty average.   This doesn't seem to be a very strong year for the league.

OS,

What's lost in all of Point's other impressive stats is that Hicklin is actually leading the country in three point percentage.

NCAA stats are here, just choose D-3 and the proper week.

As of last Sunday (and the stats will proably be updated later this week through today) he was leading the country by two and a half percentage points!

Now, we spoke about Rortvedt... he's shot 122 3's and made 53 of them, for 43.4 percent... Hicklin has made 12 fewer, shooting 50 less 3's!  That's unbelievable as well!
