Greek Tragedy

On a Poll note, I feel bad for Jacob Nonemacher, he's the only one that hasn't gotten a vote yet...even "Other" beat him out!  Ouch! lol  ::) >:( ;D :'( :-\ :-[ :P ;)  I hope he takes out his frustrations on La Crosse next week!  Wait a minute, maybe he'll tell his brother to do so, since I have JOHN on my fantasy team! lol.

(Maybe what's driven down attendance and coverage is that one guy who sits behind the visitors' bench and yells and screams all night long.  Who wants to put up with that for two hours?  If there was a Most Annoying Fan award, it should be named after him.)

Does he really yell and scream that much?  I've been up to Oshkosh about 4 times this year (two free t-shirts!) and he's more entertainment than annoying, IMO.  He dances and signs to, "Who Let the Dogs Out" and claps and cheers for the most part.  If only the rest of the crowd would be 1/2 as energetic as he is.  Oshkosh fans are only slightly better than Whitewater fans.

OK, it's been awhile since I've posted ... and I feel badly, but c'mon ... you can't go dogging Wayne (AKA ... SuperFan). He's a nice guy, and loves his teams. He seems to care more than 90% of the student body!

"Drew, where's that story?"

WHITEWATER handles RF 93-72.  Trailing 35-30 with about four minutes remaining in the first half the WARHAWKS finish with a 13-2 run to lead 43-37 at the buzzer and start the second half with 15-0 run over the first five minutes to go up 58-37 and never look back pushing the lead to 25 at times.  Corey Vernon led the way in scoring with 23 points including 11 of 14 from the charity stripe.  Anthony Mlachnik buried six three-pointers to finish with 22 points.  Josh King had another good outing with a career high 16 points.  Gio Riley also hit double figures with 10 points.

WARHAWKS go 27-32 from the charity stripe and 10-18 beyond the arch for significant advantage in both categories.   Plus they take care of the ball and committ only 5 turnovers.   WHITEWATER'S post players attacked the basket and shot all but six of the free throws.

Nate Robertson scored RF's first 11 points and finished with 26 to lead all scorers.

Nothing controversial about this one.

Falcons melt down after a 37-32 lead to watch WW score 11 straight points before the half ended 43-37, WW. RF had 12 t.o.'s already, and more of same ensued as WW ran the lead to 56-37 before first Falcon score of second half. And all this happened with Rob Perry never in the game and Toellner out w/a shoulder separation early in the second half.

Falcons led in two categories: fouls and t.o.'s. At one point late in the game, WW had 23 f.t.'s to 9 for RF.

Robertson w/26 and Davis w/10 led RF. Mlachnik and Vernon  both had 19 for WW, M. w/ 6 threes, V. w/11of 14 f.t.'s.

I think Oshkosh should move its home games to Albee Hall.  While the parking is a few blocks away, the atmosphere would be better since there are only 500 folks there anyway.

It definately would be a different feel...  but might make more sense!  How many does Albee hold?  I know it's significantly smaller, but a 5000 capacity building isn't necessary when you only average drawing 700 people per game.

Point wins 73-72.  Up by as many as 18 in the first half, Point scores just 16 points as Stout goes on a 15-6 run to close out the half.  The lead was whittled down to 5, and Stout even took a 2 point lead on an Enerson-Matthews 3 with 3:42 to go in the game.

Point definately started out hot, but cooled off shooting just 8/23 from deep, only making 2 three's in the second half.  El-Amin ended the draught after E-M hit his 3 by knocking down one of his own, and Rortvedt then later hit one as well, but Point almost seemed to want to give the game away... Point missed 3 ft's in the final 22 seconds, and Clopton drained a half court shot at the buzzer that didn't affect the overall outcome... but certainly could have!

Perhaps the UWO Athletic Department could launch a charm offensive to get better coverage.  The Northwestern is a good paper; it focuses on West and North because of their tradition of success, and because they are literally hometown teams that play literally hometown kids.
The Titans, meanwhile, being a college, well, they get players from all over.  Where's the local angle there? ::)

The real question is if the "hometown teams" with the "hometown kids" have such a tradition of success, why is it that only 1 "hometown kid" from the "hometown teams" (according to the roster on the UW-O website) plays for the Titans???  I think that is your way to get more coverage - recuit a few of your own kids to play at Oshkosh.  Maybe someone would then take notice at the local paper and it might put a few more fannies in the seats.

I've already forgotten what the score was of the UWEC vs. Oshkosh game today, but the Titans crushed the 'Golds by 20-something. I think they had six players in double figures, and Gibson had a few dunks....

And my two cents on the Oshkosh superfan, although I didn't see him at Zorn today, I get a kick out of watching him. He's having fun, and I'd be willing to bet he's been to more away games than most of the students have been to home games in Oshkosh...

Thanks for the input on the Pointer gyms... I remember watching the women in 2004 in the tourney in Quandt; that was weird, and almost seemed like an away game, until Cassandra Heuer strapped on a knee brace and did a Willis Reed to lift the 1,600 Qrazies crowd down the stretch in a W vs. Hardin-Simmons...

Point Special - was it because the practices you had in Berg were early morning that seemed to make them so tough, or the extra walk down the hall you had to do to get to the locker rooms after practice? Just teasin'  ;)

Greek Tragedy

Pointers get by Stout...guess I should've started John Nonemacher in my fantasy league! lol.

Point squeaks by.  "Straight Outta" Clopton hits a near-halfcourt 3-pter at the buzzer to make it 73-72.  Point hits their first 4 of 5 3-pters and they're up 12-0.  Looks like a blowout, but Stout slows things down, gets the ball down to the Nonemachers and, unlike the game up 'nort, the rest of the Stout players play as a team and they get a lot of off-the-ball movement and nearly look like Point with their backdoor cuts and easy layups.  Point goes 4 for 18 the rest of the game from another area-code.  Though they played poorly, partly because of Stout and partly because they missed a handful of layups, Point managed to pull it out, which is a good thing.  Winning games when you aren't playing your best can't be bad!

Nice to finally meet old school posters-turned lurkers Winneconne Legend and Frankie T .  Pretty funny since their non-poster friend seemed more excited about meeting me than WL and FT! lol. ;D  BTW, send me a picture via email of us, WL, I'll be signing autographs and putting those up on ebay as soon as I get a picture of us!  :P  Oh yeah, if you truly want to join the prestigous WIAC Fantasy League, you have to start posting again!!

Nearly 2100 at Quandt, but a bit quiet probably cause the fans were so nervous.

Didn't LU play Osh at Albee Hall a couple of years ago?  Why not play there?  1000 people in a packed house would have a lot better atmosphere than 1000 fans at the Kolf, IMO.
