Way to jinx Keri BadgerWarhawk

That hurts.

What's even dumber is I thought I'd posted that on the women's forum.  Then when I realized the mistake I couldn't delete it.   :D

Mental note to self: Keep you freakin' mouth shut until it's over.

It's ok BW, she still gets my vote for COY.

WIAC QOWI:

1   11.818   UW-Stevens Point
18   10.364   UW-Oshkosh
46   9.857   UW-La Crosse
78   9.200   UW-Whitewater
131   8.450   UW-Platteville

No other schools are in the top 200.  Oshkosh is looking more and more like a lock.  I'm wondering why La Crosse's QOWI dropped as much as it did... They were at a QOWI of 10.00 as far as I knew when I posted this before... but I can't find where I got that number from.

Last year, they got in with a QOWI of 9.880 and a regional record of 18-7.  Now, one of their regional losses is not in-region... so they've still got a chance, but like I said before, if they don't win the conference tournament, then LOTS of things have to go in their favor.  Their current QOWI is 9.857... this will only go down, unless they lose to Point in the conference tourney final, I think.  I haven't crunched the numbers... but at this point, it's up to them to do the work.  By the time I figured it out, we'd know already if they were in or not!

Here's an update of the WIAC's status for at-large bids.  Keep in mind that each team would incur an additional loss to be eligible...

2   11.682   1   UW-Stevens Point   0.955 (21-1)   22-2
26   10.227   5   UW-Oshkosh   0.773 (17-5)   20-5
36   10.000   6   UW-La Crosse   0.714 (15-6)   17-7
74   9.200   10   UW-Whitewater   0.680 (17-8)   17-8
153   8.250   20   UW-Platteville   0.550 (11-9)   13-11

Whitewater and Platteville are out of contention.  Point is a lock, Oshkosh would need to have some bad things happen to NOT get a bid IMO, and La Crosse's standing looks much better than it did last week.

Uh?  Though they were 18-7 last year, this year they have a similar record, but the MIAC will probably get a Pool C bid and there are THREE NWC teams ahead of La Crosse this year and two SCIAC teams as well.  They seem to have a lot more teams ahead of them as they did last year.  I don't see them getting a Pool C bid this year, even if they make the WIAC championship game.

OS,

I meant one of LaX's losses this season is not in-region, I don't think I made that very clear.  That means that if they lose again (which they would need to in order to be in Pool C contention) they would have 7, the same as last year... but the way this year is shaking out, you're right, there are other teams in the West region who appear to be higher on the todem poll than the Eagles this year.  Last year, the Eagles were ranked in the region and this year they're not... now, they possibly could be again, but it's not a guarantee.  There won't be any more regional rankings as far as I know this week... so they may move up, we just won't know until Selection Sunday.

Final: WW wins by one. Milachek hits a free throw with 3 seconds left. he was fouled going to the hoop. The UWP announcers and coach Combs both felt it was a Homer Call! They felt mike Shaw clearly had position for the Charge. Coach Combs had to be restrained after the call and after the game when he went after the officials. Although very firy, this is very much unlike Coach Combs. Coach miller was also very angry and got into the officials faces several times. A typical UWW UWP game. UWW should have kept the lead, but give credit to the Pioneers for not giving up. Hail to UWW and good luck the rest of the way. God Bless!

Pointers whip EC 89-55. It was a very close game in the first half with the Pointers leading by ten, 36-26. They missed a lot of inside shots to make the game close but held Beyer in check early as well.  The second half was a clinic on back door cuts and crisp passes leading to easy layups and short jumpers. Second half "D" was intense with several steals leading to easy buckets. The lead stayed in the 10-12 point range until about 16 minutes left when the Pointers ratcheted up the defense and got baskets at the other end. Not a whole lot of 3 pointers were taken (or made) because baskets in the paint were easy to come by. Beyer heated up at the end and netted 17 for the game with several nice turnaround jumpers with defenders in his face. Hicklin had 17 including a 3 pointer and a free throw after being fouled on the shot late in the game. Krull was the leading scorer with 21, all on the inside. Stood in line for 25 minutes after the game to get tix for Thursday, I think that may be a sellout. Not a full house tonight, appeared to be about 1200-1300. Whitewater will be an entertaining foe and they have that winning streak in tournament semifinals in their favor coming in.

Watched the Osh-RF game via webcast, and was a little dissapointed i didnt get a bit more for my $  :P. Not that I neccessarily expected anything else, but Oshkosh was never really challenged by the Falcons all night. The Titans led by double digits pretty much the entire 2nd half, with only Courtney Davis being a viable offensive option after halftime. Falcons were atrocious from outside, going 2-13, even though a handful of those looks were wide open attempts. Koonkaew had an off night, and that left RF unable to establish a flow. DJ Marsh continues to impress and progress, and was arguably the best player on the floor. Capelle was a mismatch for whoever the Falcons threw at him, no shock there. Saw Oshkosh play against Eau Claire, and the Titans appear to be playing at the top of their game right now, certainly better than they looked at Zorn. Good sign for Oshkosh backers, though getting beat on the offensive glass against a smaller and less physical team is something to question.
Really looking forward to the Oshkosh-La Crosse game on Thursday. Eagles, teetering on the edge of the NCAA bubble, can play themselves in to the field with an appearence in the WIAC final. Agreed?

Full court pressure from the  Blue Devils had UWL off balance early, as Stout took an  11-3 lead at Mitchell Hall. Chris Fehrenbach and Chris Ask got the Eagles going with some sharp shooting and La Crosse pushed to a 37-27 lead at the half. Stout contained Joe Werner, holding him to 7 points. He did record 11 rebounds, mostly in the second half. Stout pulled to within 4    several times in the final minutes, but La Crosse held on  in front of a medium-sized but enthusiastic crowd. The refs "let em play", and it got brutal once or twice. I look forward to the Oshkosh game on Thursday.

Not much to report from the UWO/UWRF game. RF had two FGs in an 8-minute span in the first half and fell behind by 17 with 4 minutes left in the first.
RF made a nice run to get it down to 6 just after the break, but OSH had another spurt to push it back to 16 three minutes later.
The Titans looked really good. A few defensive lapses here and there, but for the most part they looked crisp and took care of business.
A grand total of 380 fans saw perhaps the last home games for Jim Capelle, Kerry Gibson, Chad Doedens and Nathan Wesener. TVD subbed them out one at a time for a probable final curtain call. Capelle was the last senior to sub out and it appeared he was emotional about walking off the Kolf floor for the last time. He basically got crickets, as did the rest of the seniors. I saw seven parents give a standing ovation for one of the most successful classes in school history.
It's no use rehashing Oshkosh's attendance woes, but I think those players deserved better.

Enough with the game...I have to mention my favorite Kolf sight of the year, which happened tonight. RF's Courtney Davis (who had a great game, BTW) had a small group of what I'm guessing were friends and/or family sitting near the RF bench. In the group of five or six was a woman with a video recorder and maybe the cutest little 3-year-old girl (age is a guess) on the planet.
UWO's famed Superfan also sits near the opponent's bench. During timeouts, especially when the Titans are leading, Superfan obviously likes to give the opposition some ribbing. Tonight was no different.
Superfan was having a grand time dancing in his unique style. Many fans have aped his dancing and gestures, but the 3-year old was by far the best. Her understated performance made a boring game one of my all-time favorites. Instead of going over the top and making a joke of Superfan like many fans do, she seemed to be trying to get his steps just right -- like she was practicing a routine. What made it even better was the woman recording Superfan while trying not to laugh and the rest of the group trying not to laugh or look at Superfan so the tape could keep rolling, incognito.
So, if Courtney's friends/family ever reads these posts, I'd like to say thank you for making my night. And if there's a chance I could buy a copy of what you recorded, I'd be interested. There's a chance it could be the funniest thing I'll ever see.
Anyway, I know words don't do the scene justice. Just thought I'd share a personal highlight.

OshDude -
Thanks for the silly update about Superfan. Good highlight. Wish I could have seen the little youngster trying to imitate him!  :) Things like that are what make D3 hoops fun to watch off the court, too...

Oh, and you used an expression I'm not familiar with... the seniors got the crickets? What's that mean? I'm guessing it means emotional or something, but I've never heard it before...

OshDude

Bulk,
I meant "crickets" as to say the crowd gave a polite smattering of applause. Like saying, "It was so quiet you could hear crickets chirping." The phrase probably died with vaudeville, but I still use it.
Granted, it was an uneventful game with poor attendance. But a respectful clap from basically just the parents was disheartening. Now that I think back, when Doedens walked off, a few students stood and applauded. Still a bummer no matter what.

Point/EC Box Score

Despite the below average crowd for Quandt (especially for a game in February), it was actually pretty spirited.  This was in large part due to some "questionable" calls early in the first half.  Drew Jackson poked the ball into the back court on defense and was basically held by the EC defender, and there was no call... one of the EC players came and pulled up with about one on the shot clock and threw up an airball as the clock expired.  This should have been called a shot clock violation, but the refs just let them play on... and the ball was then thrown out of bounds and awarded back to EC, more out of confusion than anything else.

This was one of just 4 Pointer TO's the entire game.

When you shoot 57% for the game and only have 4 TO's, it makes it very, very difficult to lose!

Bring on Whitewater, should be a great game on Wednesday!
