You're right OshDude, Titans did play really well, but I'll disagree that it was a boring game. It's a boring game when the score is low and neither teams shoot the ball well. The Titans shot 54% for the game, over 50% in both halves. The big 3 of Capelle, Marsh, and Gibby had 58. It was great to see them play for almost a full 40 minutes, like you said a few lapses here or there. It's just nice to not have to replay last year's travesty that happened.

On RF's side of things-Courtney Davis was unstoppable most of the night-definitely not afraid to shoot-very athletic. As is Jontae Koonkaew-quick and super athletic. Reminds me of Allen Iverson in the way that he's so small but not afraid to tangle with the big boys. Like the one rebound when he skied above Gibby and 2 other Titans, but ended up travelling with it. Nate Robertson is gonna be a stud in the years to come-more polish offensively and defensively and he'll be outstanding. I think this team's gonna make a lot of noise in the upcoming years. Good to see Tim Pearson was ok after he dove headfirst into and over the scorers table trying to save a ball (ugly scene, just thankful he's ok). Really looking forward to the Lax-Oshkosh matchup Thursday. Can the Eagles sweep the Titans and get a step closer to the tourny or can Oshkosh basically stamp their ticket in? I can't wait to go to Mitchell Hall for what should be a great game.
Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

For fans thinking of coming to Thursday's game in Point... they're selling reserved seats for the game instead of general admission.  I know they sold a few last night after the game, but the tickets should be on sale now at the University Store (which is now in the old County Market buiding on Division due to the UC renovation).  I don't know that the game Thursday will be a sellout, but in case 3000 people show up, they will be prepared so that there is not an issue like there was during the Lawrence game two years ago.  Now, no matter when the fans decide to get to the game, they will have their assigned seats and won't have any reason to stand right under the basket and be sent behind the band.

If anybody wants those tickets, though, I might be able to pull some strings and get them for you... ya know, for old times sake...

All kidding aside, should be a great game Thursday.  There are two instances where the hosts have swept the visitors... does the old addage apply that it's difficult to beat a team 3 times?  Or do the hosts simply have their guests' number this season?

Interestingly, last season, Point's two WIAC tournament games were instances of this, just with a slight twist.  The 6 seed Platteville Pios had swept Point during the regular season, and Point got the one that mattered... the same way, Stout beat the visiting Pointers in the semi's after Point took the first two games.

I'd have to look at a larger sample size than this, but I wonder what the correlation is between teams that sweep or are swept and winning the third game...  I figure it probably deals on lots of different factors.  How often to home teams tend to win?  I know Point's home winning percentage since the "Bennett era" began (since '96-'97) is 85%.  This could factor in to the game tomorrow, though Point's only conference loss did come in Quandt.

Any thoughts?

Don't you mean the "second Bennett era"?  I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave out the years when Quandt rocked under Dick's watchful eye.   ;)

Platteville-Whitewater game must have been a good one to be at.  No wonder the game was a 1 point finish.  The box scores (team wise) are practically identical.  I'm pretty sure Wisconsin-Michigan State game didn't help last nights attendances, plus the game coincide with High School Basketball.  Part in reason why the conference did away with the Tuesday/Wednesday games for men and women in regular season.

... Latest Bennett era...?  ???   ;D

You are correct Justbill... this was just a bit before my time... at least in Point!

I've seen some pictures from both the D.Bennett era, as well as from games like the Point/EC conference tourney championship in 2000 where there were 3000+ people at the game...  Those atmospheres truly looked nuts...!

Thank goodness for the homer calls!  It was pretty clear cut that it should have been Platteville ball, but I watched the last 2 minutes on T.V. after a dissapointing Badger game and wow, we blew another lead (I think they mentioned it was 15 at one point, 50-35).  I wish I could have gone to the game, because then I could have studied something there :)  J/K, we have the best silent fans in the conference.  Like watching tennis or golf and you can meditate.

Cover the three point shooters of Point, do they ever miss?

HELLO ALL!!!!

To say I've been a long time "lurker" is an understatement.  It's great to be able to post.

Some thoughts on the WIAC.

It's the best  basketball conference in Dlll.

First of all, the attendence at most of the programs is sad.  The one thing that Stout has done a very good job of is getting people in the seats(Finishing 7th in the conference and still getting 1125 per home game).  What they have done is instead of trying to get the community into the team, they started with getting the team into the community with helping little kids and making it a point after home games to go into the crowd and thank people for coming.  Stout also has a student program called the "Blue Crew" who's job it is to get students to the games.

Gibbons has to be "let go."  If he is allowed to stay with the EC program the AD needs a head scan.  I missed the glory days when people would show up 2 hours before the game and the Zorn was a tuff place to play.  Now it's a cakewalk, nobody fears EC, it's a W on the schedule.  If it's true that someone like Jack Bennet wants the job, you have to take it.

Good to see you posting blocker. Now all we have to do is get you to forget everything Stoutguy and BDB have told you.

If you want to keep listening to them, FINE!
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I've tried not to but they pin you down and tape you eyelids open, play loud music and flash pictures of how great they are for hours and hours ;D ;D

I do have an early request, if the championship game is in Point or Lax, I would love to get tickets to the greatest show on hardwood!!

Welcome to the board.  I gave you a Karma point for four years of hard work in the WIAC.  The rest you'll have to earn debating with us numbskulls.

We've got OshDude using an old vaudeville phrase (chirping crickets) and
David Collinge paraphrasing Oscar Wilde. Man, I need to bone up on my English literature. Ha.  ;) Maybe I'll dig something up from my children's literature folder to use here... Ha.

But that's fun stuff to read on here, as the conference tournament heats up and we're down to the Final Four...

Welcome aboard BDshotblocker... interesting comments about my Blugolds and the coaching situation.  ;) Good to have your take on things, and PointSpecial's, too...

Well, not much left here for a 'Golds fan to cheer about. Just rambling here, nervous tension, I guess, as I await tonight's women's game, and follow the rest of the men's tourney from a bit of a distance... Let's hope the WIAC can get two teams into the big dance...

T.F. Guy

I couldn't get to the Platteville-Whitewater game (I've got the flu, it's ugly, I'll spare you  the details), so I'm asking those who were there to help me out.
How bad -- or good -- was that foul call in the closing seconds?

The UWP radio guys immediately flew into an uproar about it being "a homer call."  Was it?

Which leads to a philosophical question:  If a bad call ends a team's season, and no one's there to see it, did it really happen? ;)

I do believe the WIAC will get two teams in (Oskosh is as close a lock as you can get) with a 50/50 chance of getting three.  Lax seems to be in the same boat they were in last year, if the teams with lines through them win the AQ, it would be tuff to deny Lax. A win on Thursday would really help.
