What I'd do is split the WIAC and CCIW teams into groups of four (2 from each league).  Send 4 to the Shirk Center at IWU, 4 to Quandt at UWSP, 4 to Augustana and 4 to Whitewater (just examples).  One WIAC team will have to sit out.  Play back-to-back nights on the same weekend (likely early December), switching opponents for the second night (Classic style, not a true tournament).

Each year, rotate the hosts and the opponents to try and equal out expenses, travel costs and to keep it interesting.  Who's with me!

BDshootblocker and I had takled of this a couple times and always thought it would be great.  A chance for 2 of the best conferences to play for your team and your conference the big prolem being if a team lost it might keep them out of the NCAA tourny even thought it would be a quality loss.  I do think that it would draw fans and would hope to get a little media coverage for the area.

You are only as good as the people around you.

That's what the the GLIAC (Michigan Tech/Lake Superior St.) and GLVC (Parkside/Lewis) do with their conferences.   Each year they rotate among the four schools and play two games against the other league over two days. Men and women play both days ... so there's four games a day at each site. They don't rotate opponents though, the same four teams are locked together each year ... that has a lot more to do with the distance of their travel though. The CCIW thing is definitely doable. Although, you're right, more in region losses for someone.

I like the neutral site, Madison one year, a CCIW friendly site the next.  This would make it easier to have more media coverage.  As far a money goes, every school has road non-conference games already in there budget.  It would be nice to find a couple sponsers to help offset some of the costs, meals or hotels.

The WIAC and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference had an agreement and they played "The Border Battle" in the HHH Metrodome in the 1999 and 2000 football seasons.  The NSIC is a D2 conference which I guess doesn't really mean anything important here...  I'm sure the reason they stopped doing this was cost. Sending the team to Minneapolis, lodging, food, fee for the Metrodome, etc.

Cost could have been an issue.  But I think the real reason they stopped was because the WIAC was winning a majority of those games.  Not something a D2 conference wants to see when playing D3 teams.

this is where we differ.  I think it would also showcase the fans at the sites as well as the players.

A rivalry between conferences for the right to say that they are the best (some may disagree but not many).  top to bottom and give teams a big game early to satrt the year instead of cupcakes.

A neutral site is not bad but i am not sure it would make for the best atmosphere at Allient Energy Center or any other medium arena.  If they could sell tickets for a venue like that then do it just not sure it could happen.

I've figured out the NCAA................

According to Homer Simpson..........
"Beer, the cause of AND solution to all of lifes problems"

The NCAA was drunk when they made the bracket, and now we have to drink if off. ;)

Hmmm, the wheels in my head are spinning ....

The WIAC/CCIW (name alternates every other year) Challenege
Presented by D3Hoops.com

I suggest holding it at the Kern Center or even (gasp...) the Al McGuire Center at mFU, and invite a local team to fill out the slot (MSOE, Carroll, Lawrence, etc ...)

I may use this as my sample project in Sports Marketing 320 this semester.
"Drew, where's that story?"

It is a good thought and resented by D3Hoops very nice.

there could be a trophy which would sit with the conference that wins and is handed back and forth like all those college football teams do.  The trophy could go on tour throughout the conference from game to game.  Man i am liking this more and more.

The biggest questions are would teams want to? and will the fans buy tickets to help fund it?

The Kern Center is where MSOE plays, right?  That's way too small, IMO.  So is Carroll's facility for that matter.  The Rex at WLC holds 2500, that would work.

This talk about a WIAC/CCIW challenge makes so much more sense than the constant "We got screwed again" talk that we WIAC guys do year after year after year.  This is the kind of talk that can generate some positive change.  Regarding this issue I am reminded that someone once said, "If you fall in the lake with your new suit on you can either whine for weeks about ruining your new suit or you can check for fish."

The WIAC team that does not qualify for the conference tourney the year before can be the one left out of the WIAC/CCIW challange.

The venue were it is played has to be the right size.  I'm sticking by a neutral site, but it should be able to hold between 2500-3000 fans, if its to big, it looks like nobody cares, if it's to small then people don't get to see the games who want to.

I'm glad my idea can spark such interest.  Survivor and I always thought it was possible.
