Greek Tragedy

Things will, or should, be the same, as per the NCAA's policy:

Quote from: NCAA Men's Div III Basketball Championship Handbook, page 36Four-team Sites: Day One–Two games
1. Home team will receive one-half of available seating. The remaining half of available seating will be equally distributed in terms of number and location among the three visiting teams.
2. Each section should have its own clearly identifiable tickets (separate color than home supporters, other visiting supporters or walk-up tickets)
3. Visiting teams must notify the host institution in writing (via fax) of any of its ticket allotment it has not sold by:
• First- and second-round sites: Thursday, March 1, noon (local time of the host institution);
• Sectional sites: Thursday, March 8, noon (local time of the host institution);
• If the host is not notified by the visiting team by the prescribed times, the visiting team shall be financially accountable for its total ticket allotment.
4. The host institutions must notify the other visiting teams by 3 p.m. of that same day, of their opportunity to purchase additional tickets (the "returned" tickets must be equally distributed among the remaining teams, based on requests by the visiting teams).
Example 1:
Host Team A receives one-half of the available tickets. Visiting teams B, C, and D are given equal portions of the remaining tickets. Teams A, B and C use their entire allotment. Team D returns 300 tickets. If teams A, B and C want all the tickets they can get, then each will receive 100 additional tickets.
Example 2:
Host Team A receives one-half of the available tickets. Visiting teams B, C, and D are given equal portions of the remaining tickets. Teams A, B and C use their entire allotment. Team D returns 300 tickets. Teams A and B want all the tickets they can get, but team C requests only 50 additional tickets. Therefore, team C gets 50 of the 300 remaining tickets, and teams A and B are given equal portions of the remaining allotment (125 each).
5. The host must be notified by 3 p.m. (local time of the host) on the first day of competition of the additionally offered tickets that will not be used by the visiting teams.

Stevens Point Sectional Ticket Policy

So, how does it work if they consider all games separate?  50/50?  If they don't sell their allotment, are they given to the other school in that specific game or split among the other three teams, the other playing in the game and the teams in the other game?

Ed.: Geez, you spammers are hard to keep up with!  This is the third board where I've found this question.  :)

I don't have an answer to this, as it's not specifically covered in the Handbook.  The Friday split session is an exception to the standard policy:
Quote from: Handbook page 35Tickets shall be for all sessions for a single day, unless the men's basketball committee approves a plan for split session tickets.
Because it's only considered an exceptional circumstance, the procedures for what to do in the event of the exception are not spelled out.

St. John Fisher is also holding a split session Friday.  Wooster, which plays JCU in the first game, has announced a pre-sale of 450 tickets.  Fisher's Varsity Gym has a capacity of 1200.  Putting these two seemingly unrelated numbers together, I'd guess that the tickets for the first "neutral-site" game are split 50/50, and Wooster has reserved its first 150 tickets for VIPs such as players' parents and Posting Up Hall of Famers faculty/staff etc.  But that doesn't seem quite fair to the visiting team in the second game (Brockport St. for us, Wash U. for you), who probably only receive 1/3 of the capacity (at Fisher, that's 400 tickets) with the home team reserving 2/3, so I'm not sure of the arrangement.

What I am sure of it is that it ameliorates the "big crowd, small gym" problem Fisher is facing.

Mr. Downtown

Perhaps the WIAC should move to D-II??

I know Stevens Point, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Oshkosh could probably do it in a heartbeat.

I think Whitewater would be on the fence. As for River Falls, Platteville, and Superior...well...I'll just skip that arguement.

I think the coach has a point from the article. With new sports complex's and athletic training centers being built, some WIAC schools will probably be way ahead of the curve when in comparison to the rest of D-III.

Then again, it all comes down to money. As a college student that has participated with on campus government, I know that Wisconsin schools don't have a lot of money. It would basically ask for higher tuition for non-scholarship students across the board, and a little money taken away from UW-Madison...which I'm sure the board of regents wouldn't want to do for its "diamond" school.

Sorry for the UW-Madison almuni on this board. I love the city, but I think the university is not as good as advertise.

Like the joke:

"How many UW-Madison students does it take to screw in a light blub?"

" Six. One to screw it in, the other five to brag about it like they are going to an ivy league school."  :D ;D

Anyone notice that Carroll is in the third round? If Carroll could make it to the third round, imagine what Oshkosh or La Crosse would have done this year.

Oh well. Looking ahead to baseball and softball.

As I recall from others' posts here it would require a change in state law, so that might be a really slow heartbeat.

I dont see Stout in there Mr. Downtown  so I am guessing they can go D-I (lol)

What does it take to go D-II? and why is it that i can sit here and watch a "D-I" conference tourny on ESPN, Fox, or CSTV  and they dont look like they could play in our league. (i am WIACly bias though).

if it is a state law my sister used to be a lobbiest in washington dc so maybe i can recruit her to take up the cause.

There's a big difference between "could be" and "should be."  Would the WIAC be able to compete in D-II?  Probably, yes, it could.  But that gets away from the entire heart of the issue.  ... As stated on the NWC's conference history page:

"Colleges and universities in NCAA Division III place the highest priority on the overall quality of the education experience and on the successful completion of all students' academic programs. They seek to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete's sports activities are conducted as an integral part of his or her educational experience.
Division III institutions also seek to establish and maintain an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among their student-athletes and athletic staff."

The Whitworth coach needs to do a bit more investigation about what DIII is all about before he starts declaring that entire conferences don't belong.

... and besides, the WIAC has been in D-III longer than the NWC!!!

To this coach who said the WIAC should look around to see if any league is like them thus insinuating that the WIAC is the best league in D#. Well if he holds that opinion then it is not too far of a reach to conclude that the rest of the private schools are angry that the WIAC is so strong and it would follow that  it was a conscious decision to reduce the odds of another WIAC team winning it again for the 9th time. Wouldn't you have loved to be in the room or in the bar when the D 3 selection committee was talking about.."How can we stack the deck this year so (as the one guy said)  invite the Georgia School of Typewriter Maintenance in to the competition. This should be a competition where the best play the best. The rankings are a joke.Instead of setting up a league and punishing them for being highly competitive, reward the BEST teams in America instead of selecting some teams that wouldn't beat UW-Superior.

Those are some dazzling leaps of logic, BBGUY, all from the rash comments of one coach after a tough loss.

In 2005 you were allowed to purchase tix for both Fr & Sat at the same time. At that time there were teams from Texas, Washington State and Indiana here. Hanover was probably the only one that could have driven. Given the proximity of the other 3 teams this year, they must be expecting a HUGE crowd as the reason to empty the gym.......or they want to make more $$$$$$$$$$ by emptying the gym between games. I don't think there were 100 St John's fans in attendance last Saturday. Maybe the weather, maybe they don't have a fan base. According to their stats page http://www.miaa.org/mbb/stats/0607/hope-m.htm , Hope draws well at home or on the road, Washington U has done better within their conferencehttp://bearsports.wustl.edu/mensbball/teamcume.htm, and Carroll not much at all http://athletics.cc.edu/team_stats.asp?teamid=287#TEAM.IND.

Fun! I hope you can make it.... as long as you don't steal my ticket.  ;D :D ;)

Sections have this great, electric, homey feel. It's really a great experience, even as a neutral fan (perhaps moreso as a neutral fan cause you're not sick to your stomach! :D )... Everyone whose in a reasonable distance, and can come, should... guaranteed you'll enjoy yourself. I am really looking forward to this weekend!!!

I drove past the ticket office around 12:15 am when I got into town just now and there is a picnic chair already there.  Luckily, the guy who owns said chair is sitting in his nice warm pickup truck.  Yeah, he's the only one there so far!  lol  ;D :D ;) :P

Quote from: Just Bill on March 05, 2007, 02:23:01 PMThe headline of this article also calls me to continue my crusade to rid the world of my worst pet peeve:  It's Stevens, not Steven's, and certainly not Stephens.  The reporter, to his credit, got it right.

I knew that there was a reason why I liked Bill so much (aside from his inspired idea for the D3 Championship BeltTM): We're kindred spirits. Each of us has a pet peeve that grows like a tumor on his consciousness. He wants to rid the world of superfluous apostrophes in "Stevens Point", and my obsession is aimed at correcting people who refer to regular-season non-conference games as "preseason" games.

It's like an itch just below the skin that you can never fully scratch, eh, Bill? :D

;)

Hello KP!!!!!

My season's been over for over a week, suprised my phone hasn't rang yet :)

LOL..I am not playing anymore, knees are too bad. I'm actually doing some scouting for ABA teams, and helping with tryouts, etc. I was working with the Chicago Rockstars before they shut down this year..and I lost your numbers!!!

The Rockstars shut down? Their poster is still hanging in the window of the CCIW's favorite eatery, Charcoal Delights (right next to NPU's parking lot across the street from the Vikings' gym).

Too bad. The Northeastern Illinois gym has just been sitting there empty ever since NEIU disbanded its athletic department, and the Rockstars were finally going to put it to use again.
