I'm not a fan of clearing the gym between games, but I understand why they are doing it here.

Hope always brings a ton of fans.  If Friday was a single ticket, Hope would only get one-sixth of the seats (about 425).  Now they can get over 1,000 for their game if necessary, and as many on Saturday, should they qualify.

Sager, I'm not sure what kind of itch you have, but my pharmacist suggested a wonderful balm after my tour in the French Foreign Legion.

Perhaps the WIAC should move to D-II??

I know Stevens Point, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Oshkosh could probably do it in a heartbeat.

I think Whitewater would be on the fence. As for River Falls, Platteville, and Superior...well...I'll just skip that arguement.

It would have to be all or nothing.  The UW system isn't likely to start letting schools make their own decisions on this.  It's really such a remote possibility that it's a moot point.

This is from the Wash U. student newspaper, quoting the Whitworth head coach:

[Whitworth head coach Jim] Hayford reserved even harsher words for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), the league in which Stevens Point competes. "Someone needs to tell the Wisconsin schools, 'look around the rest of Division III. Do you see anyone else like you? You probably ought to go in the division that you should be in," said the sixth-year head coach. "The Wisconsin league looks a lot like the rest of the Division II looks like."

Quote from: BBGUY on March 05, 2007, 08:36:15 PMWell if he holds that opinion then it is not too far of a reach to conclude that the rest of the private schools are angry that the WIAC is so strong and it would follow that  it was a conscious decision to reduce the odds of another WIAC team winning it again for the 9th time.

:o

Those are some dazzling leaps of logic, BBGUY, all from the rash comments of one coach after a tough loss.

From my seat in the peanut gallery, these comments by the Whitworth Coach don't sound like they were  just uttered off the cuff.  Sounds like the WIAC was more on his mind than Washington U. Had they not been, Whitworth might have stood a better chance at playing this weekend.

The Rockstars shut down? Their poster is still hanging in the window of the CCIW's favorite eatery, Charcoal Delights (right next to NPU's parking lot across the street from the Vikings' gym).

Too bad. The Northeastern Illinois gym has just been sitting there empty ever since NEIU disbanded its athletic department, and the Rockstars were finally going to put it to use again.

Yeah, they closed up shop, I think due to financial reasons. They were .500, so they weren't a bad team, just lacked size. Withthe amount of semi pro teams coming up in the Chicago area, I think they'll be back, or some other basketball team will come here. As far as I know, I've seem semi pro hockey, LaCrosse, baseball and football, so basketball should survive.

I'm sure there is a big difference between NAIA, D3 and D2 (though NAIA has the option of offering scholarships as well, but there were times when the WIAC (WSUC) had teams with duel affiliations and teams like Whitewater went to the D3 tourney and teams like EC and Point went to the NAIA tourneys.  So, maybe they would let them make their own decisions!  ??? ::) :P

Just Bill - Would you or any other poster mind providing the website source of the article which quoted the Whitworth coach on the WIAC?  I've looked around & I've not been able to locate it.  It would be interesting to read the article in its entirety.

Thanks.

Wow, that Whitworth coach is a real jackass.    :P

Thanks Point - aside from the negative barbs by Whitworth's coach it was a fun article to read. (A pain having to sign in to read it though.)
I enjoyed the sentence - "A trio of Whitworth defenders converged on Nading and - much to the bafflement and indignation of the home fans - signaled a jump ball rather than the expected foul call, giving the ball back to Whitworth".

Does anyone have any idea the source of  this ill-will directed toward the WIAC by Coach Hayford from Whitworth?  I can understand resentments about the NCAA seeding process after a hard fought game, but his comment about the WIAC & an opponent he hasn't even played seemed random to me.  ::) ???

On the surface it may be a dazzling jump but if one analyzes the trend, the haze is reduced....

GET IN LINE NOW!

I drove past the ticket office around 12:15 am when I got into town just now and there is a picnic chair already there.  Luckily, the guy who owns said chair is sitting in his nice warm pickup truck.  Yeah, he's the only one there so far!  lol  ;D :D ;) :P
That's so stinking awesome!!! I wish we knew who it was, he should totally get a diehardfan cookie award for that!!!  :o :o :o

For last weeks game I was there at 9 PM and didn't sit in a truck ;) Two weeks in a row I got ticket #1.

Not that you should be surprised but Point sold out it's tickets in about 90-minutes this morning.  Might be a few coming back from Wash. U. if they don't sell them all.  Those potential tix would go up for grabs on Friday morning.

Quote from: Just Bill on March 05, 2007, 02:23:01 PMThe headline of this article also calls me to continue my crusade to rid the world of my worst pet peeve:  It's Stevens, not Steven's, and certainly not Stephens.  The reporter, to his credit, got it right.

I knew that there was a reason why I liked Bill so much (aside from his inspired idea for the D3 Championship BeltTM): We're kindred spirits. Each of us has a pet peeve that grows like a tumor on his consciousness. He wants to rid the world of superfluous apostrophes in "Stevens Point", and my obsession is aimed at correcting people who refer to regular-season non-conference games as "preseason" games.

It's like an itch just below the skin that you can never fully scratch, eh, Bill? :D

Greg, it's spring training time.......there are no itches that cannot be scratched.

There's also a "pro" indoor soccer team playing out of the same Sears facility in Hoffman Estates as the Chicago Hounds (UHL hockey) and the Chicago Shamroxx (lacrosse).  Got a little money?  Buy a team.

I'm still trying to figure out the ticket distribution.  I called Carroll College and they had tickets go on sale at noon today, while Hope's tickets don't go on sale until tomorrow.  I didn't buy any tickets because I think there will be plenty available.

Interestingly, I asked the lady at the ticket office or whatever they call it, how many tickets they received from Point and she said...400!!!  That is a 1/3 of the half (1200) of the capacity (about 2400).  I'm not sure if Hope and Carroll got 400 tickets to start and then if they need more, they get more.

On the other hand, it looked like half of Quandt was blocked out for the Point/Washington U game.  Does this mean that Washington U gets half the gym and Point gets half, or Washington U, Hope and Carroll split the other half.  On both ends (here in Point, and over in Hope) no fans from the "other" game can get tickets to the opposite game until Friday.  Color me confused!

With Hope's tickets not going on sale until tomorrow, they have exactly ONE day to get theirs since the host team will need to know of any left over tickets so they can sell those Friday morning at 8 am sharp.
