The karma thing is silly.  But I'm not a meanie so I gave you and Kieth some love.

Good luck, Point.   Give them something to whine about. :D  that's a joke

Hey, thanks for the karma, even if it is silly!  It's only silly to those who have it!  Anyway, even though I was rooting for the NWC, now I have to say Go UW Stevens Point!  Definitely don't agree with Coach Hayford on that one!  If your team doesn't win, and your conference doesn't win, then you've got to root for the region!!  It's a pretty safe team to root for since they're probably going to win!

Point loses pretty big tonight, 78-66.  Two big keys to the game:

1. Point loses the turnover battle.
2. Only 8-36 from 3

The 2 things Point excelled at the whole year comes back to bite them in the end.  Gotta give credit to Wash U.  They played a smart and controlled game.

Good season for Point.  Good career for Krull.

Two of the men's sectional hosts lose tonight.

Three of the women's sectional hosts lose tonight.

Together, 5 of the 8 sectional hosts lose.  Looks like there will be some near empty arenas tomorrow.

Stout survivor

WOW I listened to the game and Point never really seemed to get on track while Wash U controled the tempo.

Its too bad for the WIAC

They've played a smart and controlled game all year, which they had to given the lack of depth, however much others elsewhere on this site blame the refs as favoring WashU.

Mark can you direct us to a thread?  I've looked at the WIAC page, the UAA page, the Stevens Point Sectional page and the NCAA Tournament page and I haven't seen a single comment on the officials yet.

Just Bill, the WIAC officials at the first game were BRUTAL... they didn't call fairly or consistantly. The second game's officials were basically fine... not flawless at all, but fine. Haven't seen anyone else comment either.

PS: how about just a post on Krull's career? It was hard to see his start with two banners and end with a loss, but he was a great player who who has been clutch in big games from the beginning and showed great leadership tonight... he deserves the recognition. :)

It was really freekish how many of Point's open shots didn't fall last night... you just kept expecting them to start and for Point to get back in it... but that just never hapened... which is a huge credit to Wash U. The game was something like a matchup between Point's talent and coaching (in terms of style of play which I love) vs Wash U's hustle (point hustled too... just not quite as much) and execution.

It honestly never occured to me that the game would end like this, and I had Point winning it all... its a little odd that even their championship teams stumbled at least 5 times, and were so dominant compared to what happened last year.

The Point people did an excellent job of hosting, the gym is great, and it was just a good time despite the two seeming blowouts. I enjoyed meeting everyone from point I met a bunch, especially Point Special's wife who is the cutest sweetest thing since sliced bread. :)

J Bill:  The MIAA refs are nothing to brag about.  Biggest problem is lack of consistancy of calls.  Monitoring as many games as I could last night it seemed the refs were letting the players go at it in most of the games  Mens, and womens.  Just based on what the D3 announcer WR said it seems a call not made by the officals really triggered a response by Vander Hiede of Hope.  He normally plays good defense, but last night after getting pushed or knocked down he just sort of took control for several minutes.  I know every time we go up against a WIAC school we just expect it to be physical.  It will be interesting to see how Hope plays Wash. U tonight.  It sounds like controlling the tempo, and getting a good start are key to having a chance against them.

Greek Tragedy

I'm still depressed from last night and I'm still trying to realize that we're done for the season.  As diehardfan pointed out, it was amazing how any open shots Point missed.  It always seemed like sooner or later the shots would fall, we'd go on that amazing run and we'd pull out a victory.  I think I realized that we weren't going to win around the 6 minute mark and we were still down double digits.

Washington U gets lots of credit on the offensive end.  Of the three teams I was most afraid of, it was the Bears simply because they had a stud in the middle and they played our kind of patient offense.  We couldn't stop Ruths and their guards hit some pretty key shots in the game.  The Bears played a great game with patience and execution.  When they were up double digits, I was still hoping Point would make a run, but it would have to be offensively because Washington U just didn't look like a team that was going to fold under pressure and cough up the ball.  Kudos to them.

I'm not sure why Point played so bad.  Some credit goes to Washington U because there were a handful of times when Point didn't get an open look and at least once where the shot clock expired, BUT, we missed so many open jumpers, 3s that usually go in and just simple stuff like that.  Point forced the ball inside too much.  Yes, they should go inside and test Ruths, but sometimes I wondered why they threw it in when they did...lazy passes or what, but in the end, the better team won tonight.  I'm never happy when Point loses, but I would've liked to have seen Point make some shots and make it a game, but that run never came.

The two games were complete opposites.  I wasn't impressed with Carroll or Hope as both seemed to run in full speed, turning the ball over seemingly every possession and launching a shot as quickly as possible.  I think Point wouldn't have had any problem with either team from the first game and that's why I think Washington U will win tonight.

I'll reluctantly probably attend tonight's game.  I think Washington U will pull it out with Ruths in the middle and solid guard play.

Interestingly, I want to congratulate Washington U on their 2nd place finish.  Every team that has beaten Point in the tourney has lost in the Final.

1997-Nebraska Wesleyan beat Point in the Elite 8 and lost in the Final
2000-Gustavus Adolphus beat Point in the 2nd round and lost in the Final
2003-Eau Claire beat Point in the Elite 8 and lost in the Final
2007-Washington U. beat Point in the Sweet 16 and...

Good luck to the Bears and I'll be cheering them on...I'm in the school of thought that you want to the team that beat you win it all since then it makes your loss look...not as bad !!! >:( :'(

Titan Q

I've seen both teams play (Wash U 4 times and Hope twice).  I think Wash U is more talented overall and has more players that can beat you, but I like Hope to win the game..."intangibles" I'll call it.

The Roop

Hope is a fine team but Wash U is simply better. Barring a hibernation by the Bears tonight I think Hope needs more intangibles than they have. It's the first time I've seen either team so all I know about Hope is what I've read. Granted they did win last night but if they are as disciplined as I've heard, why did they get forced into playing Carrolls game.

The Dutchmen may get mauled tonight.

Good to finally meet you Roop.  Nice to have a short chat with you.  I lost track of you during the Point game, but believe me, I wasn't in the mood to talk after it!  >:(  I know you're a Beloit fan, but since you're in Wausau, I'm surprised you haven't come down to Point being it's only 30 minutes for ya!  I'll probably be at tonight's game, so if you come down, look for me.  Were you in line this morning at 7 am to get your sectional championship game tickets? lol.  Hope you enjoyed your experience at Quandt, and the two games as well.
