Old School, perpetrator of the term "She-vegas", hi from the real Vegas :) Since Las Vegas is Las instead of Los, does that mean it's "She-vegas" too? ??? :D ;)

I really have no idea what you're trying to say here, April.  ???  Where did the "Los" come in?  As in Los Angeles?

Anyway, I can top that, I've been MIA from the boards because I've been in traveling the southeast the last week or so...Alabama, Georgia and finally Florida.  Got back today.  From 80s and sunny to 40s and rainy, the joy.

The city's original name back in the eighteenth century was El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles del Rio de Porciuncula ("The town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels on the River Porciuncula"). The Porciuncula River is now called the Los Angeles River, otherwise known as the world's biggest concrete rain gutter.

Since El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles del Rio de Porciuncula was too long a name for Lakers announcer Chick Hearn to pronounce during games, the city's name was thereby shortened to "Los Angeles".

Point lacked creativity.  Always full but always polite.

Where else do they do the wave?  ??? :o ;D :D

April,

Just trying to figure out your segway from LAS Vegas to not being LOS, and then having it SHE-Vegas...anyway...

Greg,

As aways, thanks for your crazy facts!  ;)

Spanish 101 for Old School...

Los and Las both mean "The" in plural form.  Los is used when the noun is masculine, Las is used when the noun is feminine.

diehard was hinting that since it is named Las Vegas (feminine form), it is also a She-Vegas.

If you need any more help, I've got a dynamite chalupa recipe.

... and the slow wave, and the fast wave... some (though not a ton) of the opponents got into it too!

I actually thought it was funnier that Greg either didn't get it, or felt no need to explain.

Thanks Just Bill. K+ for you for getting my joke which is no longer funny.  :-[ I thought Point Special's joke was funnier than mine though, so at least there's still that. :D

THIS TOTALLY MAKES SENSE NOW.  If it was HE-Vegas, it'd be LOS Vegas.  I think if she referenced Point Special's post, I would've figured it out, but never put together his post with April's post! lol.

Anyway, I know my Spanish a little bit and know of the los (masculine) and las (feminine)...I'm just an idiot!  Like I said, I just didn't get the "segway"...but I did ride one while at Epcot!

Now that we've spent two days figuring this out for me, on with basketball...and the latest update is that Point's 2007-2008 men's basketball schedule is still not up! lol.

It saddens me greatly that when I click on the "schedule" link just for fun, I see that Point was an amazing 26-3 and 15-1 in the conference, yet I consider it a disappointing season because of how it ended...not that I have to think about it, but it still hurts!  :'(  I gotta stop doing that until at least September.

I was simply waiting for the conversation to turn from Vegas to La-La-Land so that I could use my Chick Hearn joke.

But when it is the only place on O'ahu that you can find a Taco, it will serve as a "reasonable facsimile thereof".   :D
