My guess is that Joe will give up sports as a profession and get on with his life.

He has already started his MBA.

I agree chmarx ... I don't think he's going to go "chasing the dream." He could definitely go overseas and get paid but he's getting married this summer and I just think he'll move onto the real world. HOWEVER ... if the NBDL does happen to move into La Crosse as is being discussed and there's a way for him to get on that team ... that might be something he'd consider. I know it's not the same as the CBA but the Bobcats threw a couple Wisconsin guys a bone (Jon Bryant, Sam Okey) the last time they were in town. Finding a spot for Joe would definitely help their attendance because of how well liked he has been by La Crosse basketball fans.

As you can read from this article, http://www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2007/05/10/sports/01werner.txt, the door is still open a crack.

Yeah, I saw that article too, Bobo.

PS, I think the NBDL would hurt the UWL program.  The presence of the Catbirds and then Bobcats of the CBA sucked a lot of the air out of the local market, leaving little for college teams.  It would be ironic if, just when Koebl's team is ready to make an impact in the WIAC, they lost their importance to the La Crosse community.

Both teams outdrew the Eagles by a lot.  Of course, this coincided with a very down period in UWL basketball.

Werner playing for the Rimrockers (if they relocate to La Crosse) would be intriguing.  I don't think he has what it takes to make it in the NBA, but it would be a chance to stay in shape in case the Packers call and make a few bucks.

Great for him.  There are only a few Antonio Gates out there.  He has the size, speed and I those are probably big reasons why he got the opportunity.  For him to even get the tryout says a lot about his athletic ability.  Best of luck to him in his future                                                                                 .

Pioneers land another recruit this week.  John Henney from Burlington Catholic Central.

Looks like a good solid class for Combs and the Pioneers.  I do believe they have a couple of kids coming in from Illinois as well, but to this point for me that is only speculation or hearsay if you will.

WHITEWATER doesn't generally post recruit information until the recruits are actually enrolled and attending the fall semester.  Given that there is no binding committment involved they prefer to do that way.

That should not be mistaken for a lack of activity however.  The staff has been very active and I will say that the word is good.  If things pan out the way they're looking we'll be adding some good players who can make immediate and significant contributions.

La Crosse hosted a last chance track meet for people to qualify for the national championships.  Joe Werner competed in the javelin!

According to WKBT News tonight, he just missed qualifying.
