He should transfer to WW. He could do both ala Jake Wolter.

frodo,

Thanks for the info.  I'm there!

Mr. DT.

Don't get me wrong, I think Marsh is a fine player, but that's a huge leap, IMO.

As a freshman and sophomore, Jon Krull did real well as the #3 option behind Bennett and Kalsow.  I wasn't sure how he would do when they graduated, but he did extremely well.

I agree with you on Whitewater and River Falls.  I think we may all agree that River Falls is a sleeper.

As a sophomore, he didn't make AC at all, but as a Junior and Senior, he was 1st team AC...so I guess it isn't out of the question.

Old School (sorry, I'm old school that's why I called you "Old School", I have to agree with DownTown on this one regarding Marsh.  When I saw him at the end of the season last year, he was the best player (that game) that I had seen all year.

Too late.  He already transferred to UW Milwaukee to play baseball.  He's pretty good at that too.  He reminds me of us Janesville!!

Greek Tragedy

OK, let's set the record straight.  I am not calling DJ Marsh a piece of wood.   ::) ;D :D ;)

I just think it's a lot to ask for, or expect, from a sophomore to carry the team on his back and jump from basically an unknown to Player of the Year.  He, along with Gibson, was the difference when Oshkosh beat Point at Quandt and he has shown that he can be that athletic spark.  Can he do that for 16 conference games?  That's the question.

Brian and I went up to Winona for the scrimmage between UWL and WSU.  Man they are good!  I doubt the Gophers will ever scrimmage them again, but I'd say they are closer to Minnesota in talent than UWL.  They had no trouble beating us by almost 40 points.

As far as UWL, the veteran guards looked good.  The front line looks porous without Werner.  The skinny guys who were freshmen last year didn't put on much muscle.  There is a freshman from Westby who is a bit burly, but he looks soft.  On the other hand, he wasn't afraid to take the rock to the hoop against WSU's big center.  he ate it, but I like his spirit.  ;D

Fifth in the conference looks about right to me for UWL.  Definitely a rebuilding year.

WSU could win it all again.

Regarding WSU, one of our Menomonie kids, Cole Kraft, decided that he wanted to give college basketball a try after football at Winona and the coach appears to not even have been interested.  Now, to me, that says plenty.  Cole Kraft is one of the best HS players that I have ever had the privilege of watching.  If he didn't interest them, they must be really good.  I guess I will see that first hand as Stout plays them this year.
That is not entirely true ... he was told he'd have a chance to walk-on but baseball was more in his heart than anything.

If the WSU coach would take Ben Fischer (Wausau), a PG transfer from Minnesota's football team in late August he certainly would have taken Cole Kraft.

Kraft's "problem" was he signed a scholarship to play football at WSU.  The basketball coach didn't want to "screw-over" his football counterpart and there is no way Kraft could've played football and basketball.

HERE is the game story and boxscore for the Winona State/La Crosse exibition.

Don't worry ... I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid (haven't been on Water Street for a looong time), but Dan Beyer looked a step quicker and also more aggreesive in the UW-EC intrasquad game last night. Transfer Rashad Goodwin also looked like he can conribute at both ends of the floor.

And the player the 'Golds got out of Superior's backyard Ryan Shea from Duluth) will be a good college player.

Three cheers for Koelbl for making 5th place a rebuilding year. Heck ... for being able to say rebuilding and not just "building"

Welcome to the board, Billys.  I have to agree.  This is real progress from what we have become inured to.

I note that WSU has scheduled Viterbo in addition to Stout.  Stout is probably at our level or a bit higher, but I wonder if Winona will score 200 on Viterbo!  :o

I was just looking at the stats from the UWEC Blue-Gold game.  I didn't see Probst or Bardon in the boxscore.  Anyone know if they are on the team this year or just injured?

I caught the tail end of the game, before the women played. Now that you mention it, come to think of it, I don't remember seeing Bardon... Not sure about Probst... I didn't pick up the roster sheet during the game, so I don't know if they were listed on it, and the website, as of yesterday, did not list the roster yet, either... I'll do a little investigating, to see if I can find an answer or two...

Mark Miller did an article on WIAC Media day, and I swear in his initial release it stated that Jared Bardon had left the team.  Now after going back to post the link, it appears the article has been "modified" unless of course I am mixing up where I had originally read it.

Caught the UWW/Elmhurst scrimmage Friday night and it was a good one.  Both teams played some nice physical bball.  UWW looked very impressive with some new faces and old.  Transfer lefty 3 man looked beyond impressive.  UWW guards dominated the contest along with great post defense.  UWW had some problems given up a lot of open 3 point baskets.  But look better than I anticipated.  Most of been working hard in the off season in the weight room.
Good luck to the hawks.  Hope to make it to some games.

Bardon is no longer on the team. Probst has a minor injury ... will probably play at Madison on Wednesday.

Losing Bardon can't help Givens.

WARHAWKS scrimmage Edgewood Saturday morning in Williams Center.
